Back in the day, a gay Catholic kid could avoid the "When are you getting married" question by entering the priesthood.  When being gay became more socially acceptable, "vocations" dried up.

When I was younger, I was VERY active in the Catholic Church. I was an altar boy from pre pubescence almost up to the time that I graduated high school. I was close to many of the priests in our diocese. The priests had a cabin on the lake and I was frequently invited to spend summer days out there. 

But I have a lot of blank spots in my memories about my times with the priests. I also had an unexplained anal fistula for some reason when I was around 12-16 (yes.
