In my case I ended up losing my job, as I was subject to twice yearly medicals. After being on disability for a number of years I did have to take early retirement. The drug regime I am on right now (Atripla plus some others) is pretty good, but I have had some combinations that were murder on my guts. I noticed that I also have to stick to a fairly rigid diet and schedule. I have not had any HIV related illnesses since the original diagnosis, but it has helped in getting quicker access to medical specialists for any other ailments. As far as sex is concerned it has been a definite crimp (which is a different story). My kids (and most of my friends) have been great about it, it also has turned off a few people. I have also discovered some new friends. -

When I was diagnosed my CD4 was 10, and my Viral load >750000. Since then my v/l has dropped to undetectable, the highest my CD4 has been is 150. Percentage is now up to about 20% (can't remember the starting point there ; but less than 10%) I started out with Sustiva and Combivir (plus 3 months on oxygen), plus prednisone, Septra, fluconazole (plus?).. After that it was Sustiva and Kaletra, trying to boost the CD4 (after it was stable for a while); plus the Septra. The Kaletra was murder on my intestines. I didn't dare going too far from a bathroom. Then it was changed to Sustiva and Kivexa (plus....). Now I am on Atripla only, plus Septra. The Septra is because the CD4 is below 200. All the HIV meds are paid for by the province here. The other ones are mostly covered by my drugplan.

Fair enough. Just, that what is legal (and/or acceptable) in some jurisdictions is NOT so in others; so you can expect some friction from certain areas.
