Don't ask us, ask yourself - you know the answer better than anybody else...
HIV is a one way street, so you should be 100% sure what you want.
But if you really want it, then I'd say go for it...

I'm going to toss out a practical consideration. Antiviral drugs aren't cheap -- a month's supply of Atripla (that's 30 friggin' tablets) costs my insurance company about $2800 (my co-pay is $28). Also toss in getting blood tests every 4 months and a visit to your doctor every 4 months -- that's the minimum. If you happen to develop an infection, figure a couple of days in the hospital just for the doctor to be sure it's not MRSA. (A bout of cellulitis two years ago landed me in the hospital for 2 days so I have a bit of experience.) If you're lucky, you won't have any awful side effects from the antiviral meds. If you're not lucky, most of the antivirals will give you what I will call "gastrointestinal distress" for a few hours. Other antivirals (notably Sustiva and anything it's combined in, e.g., Atripla) might give you hallucinations at night.
If the Obamacare debate this summer did anything, it should have made everyone aware of the vast array of health insurance plans and how Medicaid eligibility can be changed by the stroke of someone's pen. Yes, converting gives you a degree of freedom that you didn't have before. But dealing with HIV isn't the same as taking an insulin shot every morning if you're diabetic. My point: before you give yourself up to the virus, you need to make damned sure you can afford the financial price of converting.
