      Ok, I might be overthinking this (or I've had too much coffee already), but three thoughts spring to mind: 1) some folks have difficulty recognizing the obvious; 2) in this very, very litigious country in which you and I live, he's simply making the encounter "lawyer-proof"; and 3) he's simply adding to the excitement and anticipation.
