Well, experience can't be replaced with an opinion. If you've never convincingly done it, you should try at least twice, even as a late bloomer. But I'd offer to not expect quantity to be a long-term thing. MAL and IML are still something much farther East and basically venue-contained events. You're closer to Up Your Alley in July and Folsom (obviously). LA should have some events, I just haven't looked that up lately. Midtowne Blackout Nigh that I've been to was quite popular, might work for a weekender. Wet and Hot in Palm Springs comes to mind too. May be you should get ready for some travel. I just found out Ft. Lauderdale has a Florida Rubber Weekend - who knew - but I've never been there. Having had the same semi-isolated weekends what seems like forever I am doing that myself.

If it is about simply fulfilling a need than you should make more use of the apps for hooking up. I'm sure there are plenty of guys in Seattle that share your tastes. I just Googled Seattle and there are quite a few bars that welcome a leather clientele. I'm sure they must run leather events and leather and kink usually go hand in hand 😉

You're a good looking guy and I'm sure there must be a load of men on here that would be only too willing to befriend  you if you are wanting to attend an event for the first time. Maybe it's time to get out of that rut and take the plunge. Get online and do a bit of research to see if there's a local leather community that may appeal to you. First, I urge you to reconsider trying to get pozzed, get on PREP and stay on it if you are going to slut around. I didn't get on PREP, and despite being almost exclusively top in random hookups got pissed anyway. Getting pozzed will make your life more difficult and cause added stress.

Second, going to the baths in Seattle and looking for random hookups is going to be extremely frustrating for you especially coming from a city with a sex scene like Chicago. You have mentioned that you are choosey, which will make the situation even more difficult. Trying to find random NSA hookups in the PNW takes lots of time and effort. Since I'm not really into the relationship thing, I can't give you any advice there, but my observation is in the PNW everyone, including many of the random hookups I've had at the baths, claim to be looking for a relationship rather than just casual sex but don't seem to be finding it.
