Anyone here ever been in prison or talked to someone who has been in prison about the sex in there? I spent 6 months at a county jail when I was 20 for returning merchandise I had originally gotten from thrift stores. I was young and stupid. It was 20 years ago. Anyway county jail I was in was in Kitsap County WA so not huge but I saw no sex. In WA you go to state prison if you are sentenced to a year and a day or more. Less than that is in county jails. It seems like it would depend on whether they are sent to a minimum security prison or not. That type of prison is probably most accommodating for sex since it usually going to be a more open communal style prison whereas if they are sent to a maximum lockdown facility they will be in their own cell alone.

I worked for the UK Prison Service with both lifer and shorter term prisoners. I came accorss several allegations of inappropriate sexual bahaviour but little ever seemed to come of it as people move around or the power dynamics of it was all wrong.

I know from speaking to some officers that in the lifer community some guys become totally "feminised" in prison but still maintain a relationship of sorts with thier wives and children. I think this was referred to as "institutionalised homosexuality".

I don't know him personally, but I'd honestly like to write him a letter... just to give him a little encouragement.
