I had very vivid and intense fucked up dreams for a week and a half when I started Prep. Kinda wish they had continued. Was interesting to see what kind of weird shit I had in my head LOL

What few people recognise is that 3TC and FTC can have a similar (though from what I read, less intense) effect. The effect is much less likely with 3TC or FTC than it is with efavirenz. I'm on FTC - hate the dreams: very disturbing. Offer me efavirenz on <name that porn star>'s dick and I'd still refuse it

Interestingly I have had very few if any side effects from taking Atripla. I recall having had dreamed but not the content. And I was kind of looking forward to the possibility of having some very vivid dreams.

About the only side effect I can recall was a slight "buzzy/drunk" feeling and slight fatigue on the first two days I took it while awake (I work graveyard, and usually take it in the morning before bed).

I had very vivid dreams in the first week or two of starting sustiva. They were all pleasant including intense sex....quite enjoyed them.

Dreams are more likely now if I take med after food but never as intense as what they were.

The dreams were intense meaning that they were very detailed and enjoyable.  Sadly, it only lasted a couple of weeks.

1slut, do you think it's the combination of food and meds, or just from eating before going to bed?  (That is, if you take the meds at bedtime.)

It's recommended that atripla (and therefore efavirenz too) is taken shortly before going to sleep, after not eating for a couple of hours. A snack alongside the drug, especially something high fat like cheese, slows the absorption of the drug and makes the weird dreams more likely, and possibly likely to affect you after waking. As a friend said "free acid" - but do you want to go to work tripped out of your head?

I  switched over to Stribild a few months ago ( 1 pill a day vrs the  2 med combo I was on for the last 5  years) I never  had dreams or at least could recall having dreams   for decades- but  doing the Stribild, I often have  dreams , and dreams that I can actually recall. I don't find them especially troublesome, but I wonder if I am getting as much rest at night as  before , when I don't recall dreaming ( or, maybe I am getting better rested- cleaning some of those trapped thoughts out of the brain cells) . And yeah, Sustiva is one of the components in the  drug, so I am sure that is what is kicking up my dreams- now if I could only get into a dream pattern of gang bang sex and sling play over and over.....

The dreams are a constant thing with Atripla for me. I don't hate the dreams, they're actually quite exciting and intense. I talked to my doctor about it briefly but never told him how much I'm dreaming. He said dreams can be a side effect from the drug.

When I was diagnosed i worked graveyard and took my Meds (including Atripla) before going to bed in the morning...don't recall anything dreamwise out of the ordinary. Now that I am working days, am still taking Atripla in the morning...should I switch it to nights?

Talk with your healthcare provider before making any changes, but my understanding it's usually best to take Atripla on an empty stomach before going to bed as has been mentioned above.

Regarding the dreams, notihng for me.
