senzasella Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 I really like the upgrade so far. I am mainly a desktop user, so I don't mind the background. It only took me a minute to find "Unread Content" on the upper-right corner next to the facebook and twitter icons. It is a nice zippy upgrade that allows me to search for everything new, or something very specific, very quickly. We're appreciate you keeping this community running RawTop! 2 Quote
NYBBGUY58 Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Looks good! I've been able to find what I want so far. The one thing I miss is the arrow that took the view back to the top of the page, but I belt Ctrl+PgUp or Home will do the same thing. 1 Quote
NYBBGUY58 Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Ctrl+Home does it...at least in Firefox. Quote
cheatingjock Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 So found something I (maybe? not completely decided on) don't like - The up and down vote options. Specifically the down vote option. Seems people who disagree with a post/opinion etc will down vote, while I'd prefer a like or no comment. Also can see people using just because they don't like a specific person and not based on post content. Maybe just over sensitive about that though. Also, can only up vote (like?) 10 things a day? Maybe I like too much on the site. I tend to like posts by new members and then also ones a really like. I think old site also limited? but I don't think it was that low? or maybe I'm mistaken. And another question I had. When I visited site in Safari on Mac it asked me to allow notifications, but I haven't received any through Notification Center so wondering if this is something that isn't fully implemented? Quote

I actually like the up and down voting and think it will make me more likely to vote. Overall I think this is a better, more modern look, so big thumbs UP for this whole design. I have two comments: 1. When scrolling the site using my trackpad, it's slow -- sticky. The page scrolls slower, and for a longer time, than the time I'm actually performing the scroll input using the trackpad. Is there too much junk loaded in the background of this page, making it slower to scroll? I'm using Chrome on a fast, modern Windows laptop. 2. I hope you will rename the forum about making the "Decison" to bareback. The spelling drives me nuts. I'm a queerfectionist. Thanks for a good new look. 1 Quote
cheatingjock Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Also just an update - getting the Safari notifications so either thanks or oops. Quote
uncleslam Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Initially I like it. It looks great and pretty easy to use as a mobile user. As I use it it more I might find something to dislike but I don't see that happening. 1 Quote
HereInLondon Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 So far liking the new design, sort of reminds me of how the site looked before the last upgrade/redesign. (Changing the background to a solid colour helped a lot.) Only 2 things I've found that I'm not sure about: - I keep getting a pop-up asking if I'd like 'Notifications for this site' every time I go to a new page. I'm using Firefox. - when I've clicked on several photos in forums I get taken to a page that says I don't have permission to view this content. Some of the photos I was previously able to see before the upgrade. 1 Quote
not_sure_bb Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 so far its a definite upgrade IMO. nice job ! Quote
Ross12 Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Chat room is going to be great. Only had a quick look but looks much improved. Thank you Quote
Administrators rawTOP Posted October 27, 2016 Author Administrators Report Posted October 27, 2016 @cheatingjock – Thanks for answering the questions of other users! Guys – notice that that's a new feature – you can tag someone by putting @ in front of their name. Notice also that when you hover over tagged named (or profile names, generally), you get a Twitter style pane with their basic details. And like twitter, there's a banner pic that can appear at the top. 9 hours ago, cheatingjock said: I do have a questions about friends. Looks like it's been changed for a following function? Need to re add people? Here are some excerpts from a discussion about the change by other webmasters using IP.Board. Remember that IP.Board is generic forum/community software, so these people are running sites very different than Breeding Zone. Quote I've read a number of times that friends have been changed to followers - this isn't the case as they serve 2 totally different purposes and it's really important to take that into consideration. Followers has been added to IP4 as a new piece of functionality (twitter style) Friends has been removed as it was considered not to be important The 2 shouldn't be confused as being better or worse - they serve 2 different audiences and need to be dealt with entirely separately. Followers is for open content and friends is for private content. So "Friends" are gone. Long live "Followers", but the two aren't the same, which is why it was recommended to not convert friend relationships into follows. Someone else said… Quote "Friends" served no meaningful purpose other than an arbitrary list. Based on our own observations and interaction with clients on all levels, it's far more common to find yourself in a situation where you may not be particularly interested in being "friends" with someone from a social aspect, but you find their content interesting so you may want to follow (keep track of) their content. … If Facebook is on the brain, I can understand the "friends" perspective, but remember, Facebook friend content is a private medium. Content is meant to be private and limited to your friends network. That's quite different than the typical community On Facebook public pages (or even members you aren't friends with), Twitter and most other public mediums - you "follow" (or "like") the member to keep track of their content... not because you necessarily think they're groovy and consider them intellectually superior to yourself, but because you're interested in their content. In other words, just because you're friends, doesn't mean you want to follow them and just because you follow them doesn't mean you're friends. That guy also said… Quote Many community admins aren't keen on the idea of footing the bill for their members to create private personal content only to be shared with a limited group of friends that willfully excludes the majority of the community. In the context of BZ I have to think about things like child porn and sex trafficking. So, he's right, private content is something I can put banner ads on, but it could be a big risk for me as well. I'd rather all content be at least members-only, if not completely public. ———— So the bottom line is that friends are gone. Some of you were using friends like followers now works. To those people – sorry. But many more didn't think of friends that way and turning their friends into followers would be irritating to them. So unfortunately you now have to rebuild what you follow. But on the good side, you can follow all sorts of stuff now. Quote

So far its a better layout for my tastes. Hope to see more! 10 hours ago, punaman said: I like it once I did the solid color background. Too distracting and irritating the pictures. Over all, good job! 4 hours ago, HereInLondon said: So far liking the new design, sort of reminds me of how the site looked before the last upgrade/redesign. (Changing the background to a solid colour helped a lot.) For those of you saying you prefer the solid background, have you tried the other theme (Villain)? Go to the bottom of the page, and there's a drop down on the word "Theme". From that choose "Villain". The background image doesn't interfere with the content with that theme – it's just around the edges. Let me know what you like that better or whether you just want to stick to solid backgrounds. Or would you like a more subtle background? I didn't really put a lot of thought into the backgrounds. I can tweak them. Quote

I'm using Firefox. "Notifications" let's the website send you OS-level notifications (those boxes that appear in the upper right of your screen when something new happens). I'm not sure when exactly IP.Board sends notifications. Probably when you get a new message. Possibly when there's new followed content. (Which is why it could be problematic to turn friends into followers). If the pop-ups irritates you, it can be disabled by saying "never". Quote
Ragnar13 Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Questions about the chat room: what's its max capacity? I keep getting "chat room is full" message when the icon shows as few as 2 or 3 guys there. I got into it once only, right after the upgrade went live, and haven't been able to get back in after leaving the room. Quote

Since you guys seem to want it, I've upgraded to 20 concurrent users. It may take a little while for the licensing to kick in. 1 Quote
