I am stopping my prep because i want to stop doing pnp sex. I have managed to stay sober all these years because of fear of getting HIV.  As we all know, vast majority of people who party fuck bb only. Ever since I have taken prep, I have found myself partaking pnp sex more and more. I don’t have moral judgment on pnp. However it is very dangerous for me to take drugs due to my health conditions. I have high blood pressure and had angioplasty surgery 2 years ago, so I feel like I am playing fire every time I party.

I didn't react well to PrEP.  Especially the negative effect on sleep was fucked up.

And when looking at the side effects, I decided to just have fun.  HIV is a risk but it comes down to if you manage to take your pills before (so you don't get it) or after you get infected.  I choose to wait...

And of course I missed the risk. 😉

For the thrill of the chase, pure and simple. I missed the buzz that came with taking an anon load on the common.

Have to absolutely agree, I stopped for the same reason.

Now any poz guys out there who would let me play with fire and let my strike their match let me know!

Need to get back into the 'sling' of things and take my first loads since lockdown started.

Several things really. I always had a fantasy to be converted from neg to poz but because I was in a relationship and I cheated on him all the time I didnt want my own masochistic fantasies to hurt him so I stayed on PrEP. The side effects of the Truvada though were so severe for me I was sick as a dog every day for months. It was worth it cause I was letting so many guys fuck me every day of every week but the Truvada was terrible on my GI system. When my boyfriend and I broke up I stopped taking the PrEP and not surprisingly became POZ really quick shortly thereafter. Im on Biktarvy and within two months of being on it my VL went from 300k+ down to under 20 and undetectable. I always test every 3 months so the infection was caught relatively quickly and there were a lot of signs: I had a terrible fuck flu that confined me to bed for two weeks, and after recovering from the fuck flu when my sex drive came back, I was cumming straight up blood for about three weeks afterwards. My specialist said that was cause of the HIV infection.

I temporarily stopped so that I wasn't wasting pills during the COVID lockdown. I started back again recently...just in case. But if things continue as they are I'll probably stop again. Why waste the pills!?

I stopped Prep in March because I stopped connecting with people and started self isolation. I did not see much point taking it

I do not think I’m going to go back on it though.

a few questions:

preface: I'm on PrEP currently, friendly to STDs, and considering going off PrEP to finally poz up, so I say this from a Poz-friendly angle

Guys who cite PrEP side effects as your reason for stopping:

1) you know Truvada is no longer the only PrEP drug right?

2) you understand that you'll likely end up on HIV meds at some point, with *at least* the same side effects, given the meds function very similarly? (Truvada is 2/3 of Atripla/Complera)

My "smooth sailing" on Truvada (and now Descovy) has been a compelling factor in my indifference on my HIV status.

Oh pretty pretty please, can we go back to the initial topic of this thread ?

Hello moderator. Could it even be possible to remove the whole chain of posts starting from timfreo’s OT and totally pointless intervention ?

Thanks timfreo for ruining this discussion BTW. In the bug chasing forum, it is asked that participants behave and do not spoil other’s fun, it would be logical that the same respect applies in this one.

I never started prep never wanted to and will never do.
i know you may not all agree

I don't think it's so much a question of "agree or not agree" - it's kind of off topic for the thread.

When someone asks a question - like "Why did you stop doing X?" - which rather implies it's directed at people who DID start doing X, and then stopped, it's kind of pointless to note "I never did X". It's a valid point in other contexts, like "How many of you are considering starting PrEP?" or "How many of you will never start PrEP no matter what?".

I had hip & back injuries that were not healing very well.  I had read that one of Truvada's side effects was injuries taking longer to heal.  After stopping, I definitely noticed things beginning to improve.  This was all last year, long before lockdown.  Don't plan to restart, either.

I'm off about 40 days now due to lost employer healthcare. I'm not messing around with anyone during Covid so just didn't feel the need. Told my Dr., who would've preferred I stay on but respectfully understood coming off given the circumstances. All said, never had any side effects except 2 broken wrist injuries from mild hits...so I do believe my next move is to Descovy. Side note...when reading some of these stories, the rush of feeling unprotected is pretty high. Can't wait to get back to a normal routine 😉
