One reason we help other parts of the world is that we (not just the US, but the European nations from which we descended) stole hundreds of trillions of dollars (in today's money) in resources and slave labor from "the rest of the world". And we learned, in WWII, that if we help our neighbors defend against invasion, we don't have to fight them right at our border. 

Inflation is down to almost pre-Covid levels. You seem to be thinking that because prices are still high, inflation is still high. But inflation measures GROWTH in prices, not whether they're remaining high.

That's simply false, Absolutely, categorically, false. A recession is when the economy SHRINKS (for 2 consecutive quarters). GDP growth in 2023 was higher than in 2022. I don't know whether you don't know what a recession is, or just not how to read economic charts, but this is simply wrong as a matter of fact. Unfortunately, Republicans do everything possible to make sure that people DO have to struggle - they cut all forms of assistance that might help people get ahead, in order to finance massive tax cuts for the rich, which, contrary to the delusional beliefs of most on the right, do NOT trickle down in some sort of "rising tides lift all boats" crapola. Those tax cuts for the rich finance massive offshoring of wealth to tax haven countries, fourth and fifth houses in the tropics or ski resorts in Europe or wherever, yachts that have sub-yachts docked on board for shorter excursions, and the like.

It may well be true that her personal relationship with a former political leader in her state helped her career - god KNOWS that Republicans never, ever, EVER exploit personal ties to get ahead in business or anything else, right? I never said it was OK (or wrong) for a man to sleep his way to the top, nor for a woman to do so. I said that people who jump to pointing out that she dated a powerful politician and claim that's the only reason she ever accomplished anything in her life are rarely the sort to point out that, for instance, Hair Furor would be nothing but the owner of some generic Queens and Brooklyn apartment buildings if it wasn't for his father bankrolling his career. News flash: we don't "fund NATO". You, like the fucking moron who served as our 45th president, seem to think that NATO has dues and that most countries are behind on their dues. That's not how it works.

NATO member countries are supposed to spend 2% of their GDP on THEIR OWN MILITARIES, so that they have sufficient resources to participate in a conflict if a NATO member is drawn into one. We CHOOSE to spend more than 2% of our GDP on our military, mostly because members of both parties like the defense contractors who have operations in their states and love showering them with money.

As for your perception of the world's opinion of Biden, all I can charitably say is that it's uninformed, at best. I don't see other nations' leaders rolling their eyes at comments Biden makes, as they did with Trump; I don't see foreign leaders frantically trying to "no comment" their way out of criticizing a crucial ally, the way they did repeatedly with Trump. In fact, the only people who seem to have liked Trump better are the authoritarian dictator types, like Orban, Erdogan, and, of course, his favorite, Putin.

Anyone who thinks that Europe's leaders don't respect Biden over Trump should consider what he said about what he'd do if Putin invaded a NATO country: he'd roll over and let Putin take it.

Not teaching kids about sex is one reason red states, which largely lack sex education, lead the nation in teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. My parents were both teachers and at least somewhat progressive, but they never talked to me about sex. At some point - maybe I was about 13 - my mom had me putting away groceries when she got home from the store. In one of the sacks there was a little booklet called “What Your Teenager Needs to Know About Sex.” And that’s the only sex education I ever got. I’m not sure it harmed me, but I certainly would have been better off if my parents had been more comfortable talking about sex. And back in the 60s, we had no sex ed or even health classes. I can’t imagine what it must be like for girls not to have some form of sex ed before getting their first period.

My parents were both conservatives, and neither of them spoke one word to me - ever - about sex. Nothing about how babies are conceived, nothing about STI's, nothing about nothing. I know that my mom must have told my sisters at least some basics about how to handle menstruation, but I don't think that she or my dad went beyond that.

The worst part, in my view, is how abuse of kids with no sex education is cyclical and repeats, especially in poorer families and even more so in single-family ones. It starts with a father or uncle or whomever molesting kids in their care; the boys grow up thinking it's normal to do that to younger kids, and the girls grow up thinking they can't say no to men who want to do things to them. Eventually the girls get pregnant - not always from the abuser, but often someone they turn to for affection in the only way they know - and they end up dropping out, going to work, and the kids end up being cared for someone in the family who keeps doing what the previous generation did. Like I said, famuhleeeeeee values.

I must be in a small minority, my parents while both conservative (although both of them have completely repudiated the MAGA GOP) did make an effort to have those conversations, as well as a booklet like @DallasPozziblementioned, I had an uncomfortable conversation with my dad when I was presented with the booklet (I don't remember the name of it), and several more in with both parents over the next few days. One of the more uncomfortable car rides of my life was with my dad when I was a junior in high school, we were going to tour his alma mater, he decided he needed to let me know what happens from a sexual perspective in college, thank god my mom didn't do the same, that drive was 2 hours longer. They also didn't pull me out of the sex education sections of my Jr High and High School health classes, although what I learned from the gym teachers was of rather dubious value, there were a lot of boys in my small rural school that were sent to study hall during those weeks.

That jogged my memory:  I can't remember exactly what grade I was in - probably Junior High - when my Dad took me downtown to the YMCA one night to hear an "expert" clinically describe what the heteronormative event we call fucking consisted of.  It was an "X happens to the woman, Y happens to the man, Z happens when they fuck" kind of thing, quite "clinical".  While I recognized a number of schoolmates (with their dads), I don't think any one of us ever talked about it at school.  

That was it, as far as my cultural sexual education went.  Thank Whatever it was only a one-night thing.
