OP said: "I have never really cared". I assume this relates to an anonymous encounter where the bottom is there to be bred. Getting the load is good enough for the bottom. I see no obligation for the top to stick around, unless there is a personal connection.

I believe the context matters here, so maybe there is a misinterpretation of where the sex takes place and under what circumstances. If the person who says that he makes sure that his bottoms cum was referring to a 1-1 encounter, personal, more intimate, then I don't find it "dumb" per se. But then it's also the bottom who may want to signal that he's ready to cum, so sticking around is the nice thing to do. If the bottom is happy with just the load, then I don't see the reason for the top to stick around and make sure the bottom cums. 

Since most of the encounters and breeding on this site involves insatiable bottoms (myself included), I don't see a need for the top to make sure the bottom cums. Unless there is some sort of fetish, once the top unloads, the two should part ways with no further expectations.

For me, this is the "default" position. 

Any other outcome should be mentioned prior to the fuck, and if agreeable to both, acted upon, assuming it's a 1-1 hookup.  

In the event the fuck is spectacular for one or both, sure - why not go for repeats sometime?  But that's the exception; not the rule or expectation.
