hntnhole Posted yesterday at 08:19 PM Report Posted yesterday at 08:19 PM I remain unimpressed with the President's response to Netanyahu's aggression. It's been too quiet over there for too long, and I've been wondering when the next blow-up would take place. The President is putty in Netanyahu's hands, and the PM of Israel has been self-serving for years. While T's latest response is his usual "I'll figure it out in a couple of weeks" reply to the major media's questions, the PM has been stirring this pot for years. He's used the "Iran issue" since he first was elected, and perhaps with good reason. Fanning the flames of religious differences is his calling card. This is a good example of why I turned my back on O.R. years ago; both sides claim to serve the One and Only Deity, and neither serves anyone but their own ambitions. The US has something around 40K soldiers in the general area, which T may use as an excuse to bomb Netanyahu's enemies to bits. But he can't do it without bombs from the US, and Trump is like putty in his well-experienced hands. All we can hope for, is "advisors" in our Government can dissuade Putty-brain from supporting this misadventure on the part of others. The straights of Hormuz could easily be closed if the US enters this mess, and that would cost the rest of the world dearly. The only "real" solution I see, are new elections in Israel. Until then, it's time to buckle the seat belts. We can't displace the ridiculous one for a few more years (but, we can take back Congress in a few months), 1 Quote

He's used the "Iran issue" since he first was elected, i watched several commentaries at the same time as this one, so cannot remember the source. One showed several quotes of Netanyahu doing his own "two weeks" thing. In each quote, he was asserting that Iran was "weeks away" from having nuclear weapons. The quotes went all the way back to 2012. i appreciated the tone of this discussion, particularly the comment that "peace is inherently messy" (paraphrasing). None of this is black and white, there are too many irons in the fire to make any world peace negotiations neat and clean. Both peace and conflict are unstable, but fewer common people die with peace, and fewer weapons manufacturers get rich. It seems no matter how you slice it, the people of all nations end up being at the mercy of, and are often victims of, those in power. If it were possible to do a world pole, i wonder how many people would actually say they are represented by their government? 1 Quote

Please... There's nothing he can do to impress the likes of you. You foam at the mouth of all that hate and bitterness you spew with your ad hominem attacks and childlike insults. You're entire brain runs on left idealisms. "When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser" -Anonymous And that's pretty much all you have. Let them fight off their issues of what THEY STARTED with Iran If you mean the latest iteration of the time-worn troubles in the Levant, I agree. I don't particularly like the fact that there are so many US soldiers on the ground (in various encampments in the larger area), since they're exposed to increased risk these days. Let's hope many have been/are being brought home. That said, this is probably the most perfect example extant of why so many citizens of the World eschew the religious bullshit fomented by temporal leaders, particularly in that region. Using this Deity or that to excuse inhuman behavior never, ever works. It seems the PM of Israel has been stirring this pot since he was in diapers. The current President of the US probably is in them at present. I too find it unconscionable that the US has given so much rope to this particular PM of Israel. I'll trust you to finish that mental picture. The US had reached an "accord" in the area regarding nuclear weaponry, including offensive nuclear weapons some years ago. but a Certain Someone yanked the US out of that agreement during his first term. So, the trail of cookie-crumbs leads directly back to His Corpulence. DIRECTLY. Netanyahu has only taken advantage of that seriously stupid error, but reliable information regarding what the citizenry of Israel feels is not heavily covered; we don't know what Joe average citizen in Israel actually thinks. In the event (just short of the usual "2 weeks") the US does indeed use this so-called "bunker buster" bomb, our hands - by extension - will be covered yet again with Levantine blood. Is this what we want our collective legacy to be? I rather think not. When rabble-rousers (emphasis on "rabble") beat the war-drums, instead of sincerely working to find a solution wherein each party to the dispute gets something, gives up something, a peaceful solution might be found, instead of more oceans of blood soaking the sands of the Middle East. 1 Quote
PozBearWI Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Well said @hntnhole. The reason to uphold Israel is that it is a big rock in a pond of the primary religion of the area, where there remains centuries of war. But plopping a democracy in the middle of all that has brought a focus on the things humanity; that is all of us humans on earth; have to grapple with if we hope our species survives. Military cooperation has historically brought intelligence to each nations defense. To Donnie's big decision; if the majority of democratic nations on earth agree to take out Iran's nuclear capability with US bombs; that should be one shared by most, not just (and illegally) by Donnie sans legislature (the body charged with that decision). My hope is that the citizens of Israel jettison Netty soon; and get a more rational centrist PM. Quote
