If you gave up on apps (Grindr, Scruff, etc.), why?

  1. 1. If you no longer doing Grindr, Scruff, etc., why? Please, only answer if you really did give up, you've actually uninstalled the app. This is not about those frustrated with apps, but those who said "no more". If you think of another reason I will add it. Think of this as an informal epidemiological study. Thanks

I too miss bathhouses and BBRT. I use Sniffies and Grindr now.  I find it really matters to take the time to use good pics. It's not about having the best body, but creating appealing images. Rotate often so guys don't get used to your icon.  I know where Im at in NY has more guys, but I still get content loads wherever I go using the apps. In fact it's those early mid 20's guys that like us Daddies.  I think the biggest challenge is to use the platform like the younger guys and that takes effort, but well worth it. I still get multiple loads when I actively use them. Meaning at the GH using Sniffies so nearby guys see someone is there. Grinder has the biggest net just need to filter out the wholesome guys

Support the businesses or we'll lose them.

On the surface I'd agree. There's a "but" coming.

Several months ago (when it was actually somewhat cold in Orlando), I checked out a couple gay bars in the area. Got to one that will remain nameless but is known for having a maze-like back yard where pretty much anything goes on. Got there, realized I was really low on cash, hit their ATM for $40. Got hit with a $9 ATM Service Fee! WTF!?!? This is just further shittification of LGBTQ businesses when they piss on their punters like that.

(For those who want to know, the fees got more outrageous as you wanted more cash).

I want more local businesses. I'd like it if people supported them. I'd outright love it if they supported us rather than do stupid shit that leaves bad impressions and doesn't engender you to return. In this case, I won't be.

Granted that's not a great experience - maybe things are different in the US, but is it not the ATM provider that imposes and profits from those fees, not the venue where it is located?  Venue owners might not even realise the charges programmed into the machine as they wouldn't use it themselves.

Apple Watch is my favourite tool for paying for drinks in these kinds of places - no need to carry cash in pockets that might go missing in the darker corners. I can leave my phone in a locker where it is safe and not a distraction.  Many places in Europe you use your cloakroom ticket number as a tab and pay when leaving (electronic or cash).

I mostly use them when I travel, and there are definitely places in the world where they work. Where I live about the only thing they've ever been good for is amplifying my sexual frustration, but the same is true for rt cruising there too.

I still have FB’s I met on bbrt and squirt from years back. nowadays it is mostly trash esp in big cities - fake profiles and time wasters.  One just have to prepared for no-show and not plan too much around potential meet-ups.
Having said that I recently met some guys on bbrt and squirt who came over to my hotel in London and dump their loads, nice. I like these married men away on business and horny to fuck.
In semi-rural areas, they are more genuine - guys giving info which locations good for cruising etc and then offering to show you the way 😁

There really isn't a single good one.  I used to like Scruff but they booted me.  I never found out why; but it wasn't too long after I seroconverted.  I guess I was to keep that a secret???

Grindr hit or miss.  BBRT sadly almost always a miss.  NKP almost always a miss.  BZ isn't a hookup site so I never approach it that way.  But there isn't anyone I chat with here who I wouldn't gladly enjoy a naked romp with...

I see some of my fellow poz guys are just outright putting neg.  And honestly I don't see that changes the risk significantly if at all.  PrEP is clearly an option for those who want to avoid HIV, so why is this even a question.  HPV, HSV were never even mentioned.  They were just widely accepted, at least in my circles.

Trust me, they know. So the ATM machine is the same kind (probably same provider) that I'd find in any bodega I shopped at in New York, which is a much more expensive place. The most I'd ever pay -- and trust me, I would only use those on very rare occasions -- is about $3-$4 for a fee. Clearly, the ATM owner is placing the machine there, charging the fee, and then making a deal with the venue owner to include an additional fee for them that's just tacked on.

Keep in mind, this was a cash-only establishment, so they don't want to pay any merchant fees to Visa/Mastercard/American Express/Discover. I can't blame them, it's a total fucking monopoly that just makes money and provides a service for which they could charge probably a third of what they do. And the banks, card issuers, and the lot are in on the scam. So cash-only is fine with me, but gauging the punters for the 'privilege' of convenience to get cash without finding an outside ATM is just mercenary in nature.
