So I have had sex with a trans man at a sex party that was male identified. I'm assuming his pronouns here, at the time I just referred to him as boy. He was blindfolded and in a sling. Currently have a guard ticket for the Saturday night horsemarket Folsom party as well as a ticket to the Sunday night unbridled party. Went to both of those events at Dore Alley. I used to be a Republican. Grew up in a conservative section of Southern California. My mother worked for a defense contractor and we were very anti Soviet. In 1992 I watched Pat Buchanan get enthusiastic cheers at the GOP convention in Houston as he declared a cultural war against gays and realized that with the fall of the Soviet Union the evangelical Christians were taking over the party. I voted for Clinton in 92 and left the party (voted third party in 96 because of Clinton signing DOMA and DADT but Democratic in all the elections since). I have become more liberal as the Republican party has become regressive. For a long while I was the outlier in my family as they continued to support Republicans despite being pro-choice and pro LGBT equality because of me. Trump changed things. My mother could not support Trump because of his ass kissing of Putin and seeing how the Republican party morphed into a cult of personality she left the party in 2018 and has voted straight ticket Democratic ever since. My nephews and nieces have come of age in a more accepting society and are Democrats or independents, with my niece being even more liberal than I am (AOC is her favorite politician). This upcoming election may well be the GOP's last stand. Their base is shrinking and just turning out their existing voters may no longer be enough to win elections. Honestly if it were not for the Electoral College favoring the Republican party, they would have lost every Presidential election except one starting with that 1992 election. So GOP, how is that cultural war you declared back in 1992 working out for you?

Lol, Trump's campaign people did not see this coming, the specially told speakers at last week's convention to focus their attacks on Biden and not Harris because they were sure that Biden would never drop out. Trump chose Vance not to appeal to swing states because they were already sure they had them in the bag but to try to fire up the base. Vance does not appeal to anyone that isn't already a Trump supporter. You say the Republicans saw this coming but yet they spent millions of dollars last week attacking Biden and only Biden....

I find the fantasy of bug chasing more hot than the reality of it. I don't get Trump's appeal and how he has been able to turn the Republican party into a cult of personality. Sure they supported Reagan wholeheartedly but it never got this bad. My entire family used to be Republicans but have have all now voted for Democrats in every election since 2016. Trump has fundamentally changed who the base of the Republican party is. They will excuse any behavior by Trump, knowingly repeat his lies, and deny reality all because why? He beat Hillary in an election? He lets them publicly express their hate towards immigrants and minorities? He pisses liberals and smart people off? He gave them the judges that overturned Rowe and potentially Obergefell?

The Electoral College is a direct result of slavery. It goes hand in hand with the 3/5ths compromise. Slave states did not want direct election of the President because they had few voters than free states. If the popular vote was used to elect the president a slave state of 100,000 adults where half the population were slaves would only have about 25,000 adult males that would be eligible to vote while a free state with 80,000 adults would have roughly 40,000 adult males eligible to vote. The Electoral College gives every state a number of electors that equals the number of house reps determined by by the census plus two for the senators. Number of House reps is determined by population where slaves were counted as 3/5ths of a person. So slave states got to increase their number of representatives based on a portion of the number of humans that were classified as property with no rights. The very basis of how our federal government was structured from the election of representatives to the election of the president was a compromise centered around the issue of slavery. The Senate was created to protect small population states from being dominated by large population states, so the EC system helped them as well with the inclusion of 2 extra electors to each state.
