I just communicated (on Adam4Adam) with a 72 year old who is on Prep. He even admitted he rarely has sex. I think that’s a bit too much. Even on the off chance he does get pozzed the chances of him dying from AIDS is nil since it takes 8-10 years to become a health issue. I can get on Prep but choose not to. I’m in my mid 60’s and so far negative. I can go on Prep and get all the side effects as one who is being treated for HIV. I also have the additional risk of kidney damage. Suppose I do become positive with no treatment it usually takes 8-10 years, maybe even longer, before I become symptomatic. I’ll be well into my late 70’s if I don’t succumb to something else before. If I decide to take an antiviral after testing positive it probably wouldn’t become an issue for me at all Am I right in my thinking ? Of course if I was in my 40’s or 50’s I would take Prep but that’s not the case. I guess that is one of the advantages of getting old

There are many people out there that cannot tolerate Prep because of kidney issues or other side effects. I’m older and can’t take Prep because of declining age related kidney function I hate condoms and love BB should I close up my sex rent and become celibate? Regarding Prep when I inquired about getting on Prep I consulted several doctors. Only one suggested I get on it, the others stated the risks of taking it at my age far exceeded the benefits. They also said If I do test positive there are meds that are far less toxic than prep to treat it. -

I’m a 64 year old man with no prior history of stds and I’m recently tested HIV negative. Because of my age and decreased age related kidney function plus history of kidney stones several dr’s have advised against me getting on Prep. It is a very powerful med and hard on a body let alone a 64 year old. Also, there was a concern that any damage to my kidneys could be irreversible. If I was in my 20’s 30’s, 40,s or 50’s I would get on Prep immediately, but now? My Dr also said if i did get pozzed and started treatment immediately there are less harsh drugs available and the chances would be I would die from other causes before HIV caught up with me. So getting on Prep for me the risks outweigh the benefits. I still only bareback and accept the risk
