who among us would have actually chosen either of those selections?
Well, some of us did. She possess impeccable credentials, experience, intelligence, particularly compared to what she was running against. If her only "negative" possession was being a woman of color, and thus denied votes, then our country is in deeper trouble then we think. Her opponent possessed none of these attributes, "claiming" (read: lying about) all kinds of pseudo-impressive accomplishments, none of which has proven true. Insolvency, failure at numerous businesses, an obnoxious temperament, pandering to the populations unworthy fears instead of offering sound proposals beneficial to all citizens. Remarkably, many didn't even "bother" to vote at all. And, you're correct: any successful candidate for President must include the needs of all citizens, not merely of their own political party.
3 hours ago, tallslenderguy said:i don't think most Americans have much of a clue about what is in a 1000 page bill
How could we? The great percentage of that unholy mess of a bill wasn't even read by most of our Representatives/Congressperson. And that is the fault of the media. Ever slow-to-learn, most Americans are too busy with their day-to-day responsibilities to study proposed bills in Congress. I would guess that there are enough Congresspersons who didn't read the entire bill (which is their damn job) to sink a ship. Plus, most Americans expect that their Congresspersons will actually do their jobs - before it it too late. That's been the expectation for 249 years, and has served us well. But this is a different day now. Giving the insanely-wealthy such inordinate monetary rewards is nothing short of an arrestable offence.

I agree. It used to be a valid assumption that we could trust those who we elect to Congress. Clearly, one of the parties has clearly been fucked into abject compliance with the Hater in Chief, to the point that care was taken in the voting process to make sure it would pass, so that a handful could vote "no" - assumedly an effort to help their re-election efforts. All the while, Goebbels was yammering on their cellphones, threatening this, that, and the next thing. Apparently, we citizens have made their jobs in Congress a little bit too cushy. If there's one lesson to be learned by the American Voters, it's trust no one.

To some extent, maybe our challenge is recognizing where the insane genius gets his power
I would say to a great extent; the more obvious it becomes, the easier to counter it. Pandering to the fears, anxieties of those citizens that have been less successful is easy as can be. It's inspiring them to a more productive thought-process, introducing programs to assist them, rather than push them even farther down would be far more humane than stirring the pots of hatreds. Yet, the clever conmen have always managed to figure out how to demean others, and thus seemingly make themselves attractive to the less-advantaged. Apparently, some more clever folks in the Administration have taught His Nibs that lesson: the most disadvantageous aspects of the Big Bullshit Bill won't even take effect until after the midterms. Clever, craven, and crass.

I agree .... and here we are. This is why I enjoy BZ so much: we get to express our ideas, exchange viewpoints, consider and re-consider issues of the day. My only wish is, one day the subject of Government-studies will be re-introduced into our public schools. It's inexcusable that there aren't any required courses in that subject these days. It used to be called Civics, but that or any other name would be a huge investment in some measure of awareness in the general population.
To the "Where is Cronkite" issue, where indeed is his bequeathment to the current crop of tv "personalities"? Look only to the current Cabinet the President has chosen to run the country. Dullards, drunks, whoremongers, insipid fools - to enure that none of them outshine His Nibs, scrambling only to earn his favor instead of offering him one scintilla of "wisdom". One could enlarge that conundrum to the Republikans in Congress as well. Yes-men/women to a one. Cowards, concerned only with ensuring the Presidential Mouth doesn't go after themselves.

Or, more plainly put, honest, well-reasoned women and men. Some of the major media is more honest than others, but we're in a "truth-desert" these days. BUT - we get to come here to BZ to discuss and share with others, so that's at least something.

Agreed. To the Magaroid crowd, braggadocio, blaring insults, negativity in all it's hideous forms seems somehow attractive in a President. The underlying reasons could be manifest and many. A lack of curiosity about the world, other than how to demean it, is the hallmark of a disinterested, self-centered, self-focused bs artist, who's spent his 70-some years learning the craft of Circus Barker. ripping off every other person/entity he possibly can to inflate his own ego. I laughed when I read the phrase (bully pulpit - as if he'd ever been within shouting distance of an actual pulpit).
5 hours ago, tallslenderguy said:those kinds of rulers are good for the long term stability of the world
Entirely agreed. Not the good of long term stability, not the individuals themselves, and certainly not the entire world. To these kinds of so-called Leaders, stability is to them, as kryptonite is to Superman, The more the population concentrates on the blaring trumpet of the day, the less they are likely to recognize the abject failures of the phony guy.
-
It seems the President needs to acquire a dictionary; he seems not to know the definition of "obliterated". Reports subsequent to that bombing campaign suggest something well short of "obliteration".
Unfortunately, we here in the US are embroiled in a national issue, which has just been tipped towards the President's favor.
At least we Americans get to concentrate on a domestic issue, rather than some foreign one. The "fallout" may prove most destructive to the American People, but that's for another thread.

Welcome, new guys Pineapple Semen and chillrawtopguy. BZ is a welcoming community that encourages discourse (will some measure of decent manners, of course) where we get to exchange ideas, viewpoints on all manner of subjects, from the obvious to many other issues of the day. We look forward to hearing more from you and all the other new members.

Every guy could be a pig given the right opportunities.
That's the real issue - "given the right opportunities". When a guy hears the magical beat of some distant drummer, it may not be insistent enough, get lost during a guys day to day life. I doubt many of us does nothing but fuck. We have to eat, live someplace, blah blah blah - and just that requires time, employment, opportunities, on and on. I suppose it's why so many guys relocate to major metropolitan areas, where both employment and living up (or down) to their sexual potential are enabled. When everything a guy needs is within a few minutes drive, the "call of the wild" is easy to not only hear, but then act upon with thrilling regularity.
Well said.
-
Thanks, Erik62, for that interesting addition to the subject.
I would only remark that that PM held the position over 50 years ago, and much has changed in the area since then.
-
To the OP though, I think virtually every guy has the potential, but not every guy has the chance to actually become a sexual pig. Location can play a big role in the potential development, if one lives far enough from a major metro area. It can become a burden if one has to travel for a couple of hours to even get to a sexual pigsty. There are, of course, other variables involved, family pressures, religious pressures, cultural repressions, on and on.
That said, almost all of us have the ability - even hidden deep down in our subconsciousness - to revel in wanton sex.

Actually, I was quite surprised by that statement.
While it seems there isn't one intact vertebra in the collective spines of the Congressional R's, at least she gave her "reasons", tainted with a heavy-helping of phony-baloney. She may not like this, she may not like that, but Congress operates on the basis of achieving consensus, or some measure of it.
It's crystalline that the Congressional R's are even more terrified of the Panderer-in-Chief than they are of their own constituents, and they seem to believe that those constituents have memories that only last momentarily.
Now that the puddle of shit has landed squarely in the Boy Blunder's lap, at least there should be a bit of comedic relief. I'm anticipating a tsunamic wave come the Midterms.

I think the method of making contact with you reflects a guy who's not all that experienced at best, or a guy who gets off on harming others at worst.
Why would a guy that's interested in you go to all that effort to make contact? Sex is so easy to find these days, it seems a bit thick to me.
Maybe he's just "out", trying to learn how to cruise guys. Maybe he doesn't have a lot of backbone. Maybe this, maybe that or the next thing.
If you decide to proceed, do it with caution. How about agreeing to meet the guy somewhere in public - a restaurant, bar or whatever - someplace neutral to give you the chance to take his measure. If that happens (meaning an in-person meeting), you might consider asking a buddy who knows the arrangement in advance to call you at some specific time, and if you don't answer, it's a signal that things aren't what they seemed. That's standard practice in some areas of the country, particularly with guys looking for BD/SM sex.
Good luck, and take care of yourself first - the rest will follow if/when the time is right.

Interesting issue ... but exactly what constitutes a "thank you"?
Sure, it's nice to hear the words said, but a happy sigh of fulfillment, satisfaction can suffice too. A genuine smile - a sparkle in his eye - a final grope, even a meeting of the eyes can say a lot. So can a kiss (in French). Maybe the bottom is one of those Heaven-Sent permanently hungry guys, on the prowl for more as soon as the present Cock fills his gut. Maybe he's not all that experienced, maybe this or that. He's already fulfilled his function, but it doesn't bother me if he says anything or not.
He knows, I know, and that's all that really matters.

But we can stand a bit of a slowdown in population growth
That's for sure.
The world doesn't need more and more (and then even more) mouths to feed, particularly given the Major Exporter of food-assistance to the rest of the needy world is denying that food aid for political reasons. It's nothing less than depraved.
There is certainly every conceivable reason to slow the birth-rate, particularly in areas that simply must depend on the charity of wealthy nations. Why not export "you-know-whats - those little baggies that prevent pregnancy virtually 100% of the time. I'm not saying everyone shouldn't have sex - but we could easily manage boatloads of rubbers to be sent elsewhere.
How is it that a nation that produces far more food than it needs, suddenly decides to yank that excess from the millions of hungry, even starving fellow-human beings in areas of globe? Is starving to death the only answer for those whose need is a matter of life or death?
I wonder how some of these people can sleep at night.

I think I always sensed there was something different for me.
As a little kid, of course, I didn't understand what it was, and I had no idea of what "having sex" even was. I just always liked hanging around with other boys, and had plenty of friends to race bikes with, see who could climb highest in a tree, all the mischief boys like to get into; silly kid-stuff.
As I grew a bit older my dad never mentioned anything at all about "sex", let alone having it, but he did take me downtown to the YMCA for "the great reveal" - apparently and annual event wherein some "expert" lectured all the boys on the physical intricacies of physically having sex. There must have been well over a hundred Dads and sons there, a number of which I recognized from school. It was more like a clinical lecture on the physical differences between boys and girls than anything else. It was a very "Lutheran" city, and devoid of any hint of sexual excitement, and "good" Lutherans never so much as mentioned anything about sex - ever.
It was in undergrad that I found out what was what, and in a big way. There were tons of guys like me, and we were all horned up and ready to "get to it". The manager of the student union would unlock the basement door on Saturday nights, and it was guys only - and a dizzying awakening for me. Sometime 50-some, occasionally more, and it was fantastic to realize how many other guys needed sex with other guys. My eyes were opened, as was my fly, and that was the beginning of the "real" me.

I support Israel 100%
As do I, assuming a meaning of Israel's right to exist, as well as other countries in the Middle East.
No WWII-era nation went after the other Semitic populations. Only one, with breathtakingly hellish results. However, that was 80-some years ago, and that particularly hellish era is well over now. Those days are a crystalline example of how a population of a nation, once the very font of the arts, culture, accomplishment, can return from the depths, becoming a valued nation again within the community of nations.
I can understand (if not endorse) the hatreds the Islamic nations hold for the Israeli's. That land (Israel) was traditionally Arab for centuries, and after the holocaust, the leaders of the world decided to take a sliver of the British Empire, and create the State of Israel, in a gesture of recompense for the horror recently experienced in Europe. I would be surprised to learn that none of those WWII-era leaders considered the repercussions that would result, but it may well be the case. After enduring a holocaust, of course some measure of compensation should be offered, even if not much thought was devoted to later developments.
Thus, the world has implacable enemies living within a stone's throw of each other - literally, How this finally gets resolved is beyond me (but it surely wouldn't be creating the biggest sea-side "resort" on the face of the earth either).

Once we give in, jettisoning our cultural/religious taboos, and actually do what we know we must, the fears, phony disinclinations tend to dissipate like a bad smell. We're still the same men, with the same desires, the same family, all of the same baggage - except that we've experienced the actual thrill of whatever our particular sexual bent happens to be.
Fortunately for me, I jumped into the fantastic life we lead before hiv came along, when everyone fucked everyone else, and condoms were nothing more than a fetish a handful of guys observed. When hiv did come along, my other half and I turned Victorian, and only shared sex with each other. Finally - it seemed like forever - there were measures to take and we returned to our thrilling, fulfilling, exciting previous ways.
When we decided it was probably going to be relatively safe, we both started achieving the thrill of wanton sex again, and I felt whole - unavoidably, insistently horny, as did my other half. What we felt was denied before became even more pressing, more dominant, more insistent. What had been something of a siren's call became a full sforzando of pounding, Wagnerian symphonic thunder.
I can't say I dwell on what was back then, but I haven't forgotten either. This is Thursday - and tomorrow night I'll be back at my favorite fuckjoint, repeating that same sweet reply to the beautiful, insistent, recurring call again and again.
Life is fan-fukkin-tastic, when we allow ourselves to be the men we were born to become.

Iran/Israel/US discussion
in LGBT Politics
Posted · Edited by hntnhole
the oblique reference
We part ways on that particular issue. Nations - even great ones - fade when a sizable portion of citizens of a Republic turn away from paying attention to the things that matter, either by sheer laziness in civic duty, or malign intentions.
I can't imagine a way to "force" citizens of any nation to pay attention, care, when a majority of those citizens have lost interest in working towards that "More Perfect Union". It seems that everyone that doesn't quite fit the "ideal" is being denigrated, from those imported centuries ago as "property" to refugees from extreme poverty or denigration elsewhere in the world, on and on. Worse, when those citizens no longer care who sits in the White House, pandering to their fears and insecurities.
I suppose the most appropriate phrase would be We're at a Crossroads. And, that outcome can only be decided by the citizens, (discounting an actual coup). Cleverly, the Administration has covered the worst of their tracks by commencing the most egregious repressions until after the midterms, thus appearing (to those not paying attention) that nothing all that disgusting is scheduled to take place until it's themselves that feel the boot of repression crushing their balls.
(one last thing: I would have been stunned had you done otherwise)
