So I guess my point is, respect an individual's privacy.  If you come across an individual and you are in a club, at a party, at a sex party and you recognize them, I don't think there is anything wrong with asking them privately if they are indeed the performer you thought they were.  But to call them out by their "screen name" or "porn name" in front of a group of men  it is not a good thing to do.  For all you know, that individual may have put that part of his life behind him and may have moved on, either being single or in a relationship (and yes men who are in relationships do go to group sex parties, present company included).  

Granted, no one forced these men to participate, but for them to have to carry the burden or title to porn star for the rest of their lives is a bit much.  I would test the waters gently before calling someone out about their past.  I wouldn't like it done to me, they don't like it done to them, and I am sure many posters here would not enjoy it happening to them as well.

I have a friend who in the 2000s did porn for 3 years. He’s done a couple of TIM films and two other studios. When he started he was a student with a PT job & needed the money. He always says it’s the biggest regret of his life. I learned the money isn’t great, which shocked me. He often had to supplement his porn money by also escorting. He doesn’t speak positively of his experience with some studios. You’re nothing but a piece of meat he would say & that other porn actor’s aren’t the nicest people. Fast fwd 15 years later. He has gone on to create a career for himself in non profit work & one thing he tells me is that years later the porn stuff still follows him as people sometimes recognize him. He’s even had a client recognize him & professionally it can be a problem. 
 

I strongly believe porn back then was a con for the actors. They got paid unfairly while porn studios made A LOT of money via sales, online streaming, selling to other porn platform etc etc etc. Actors got ripped off & leave the industry having nothing to show for it.

this is why I think only fans is a platform that works. It leaves to actors to create their own content and keep the money for themselves.  Two young friends of mine are on onlyfans and are very successful. My only concern for them, which I haven’t told them, is what happens when this ends? Like anything, there is an end. Onlyfans eventually will come to an end as people move to other things. What will they move on to? Everything is great now but I fear that once people move on either to other stuff or they don’t want their content, do they have backup plan. 

This I assume is why many porn actors struggle once they wish to move on.

I agree with everything you said.  I knew the pay was rotten, the guys were used and spit out, and almost all escorted to make ends meet.  What I didn't say much about was the "what's next" equation for Onlyfans performers and I am glad you mentioned that.  So many of these guys (and I have been around quite a few  who have no "Plan B").  They don't think about what it's like to be 40, or God forbid 50!  They live in the moment and that is it.  I know of a few who take online courses, but for the most part is all about planning the next "shoot".  I have one friend who complains about the constant travel, arranging guys who get along to have sex for an hour on camera, and then complains the escort service he works for when he is in town does not understand he needs to go to the gym and take a break from, well, sex.   Everyone needs to make a living, rent has become outrageous and many of these guys live in big cities.

You mentioned you have friends doing onlyfans and you haven't had that conversation with them - "the what's next?" conversation.  It is a tough one to have because months turn into years, and I know of guys in south Florida who worked for major studios and are now in their 40s, escorting, and working for smaller studios and trying to work in onlyfans.  I feel bad for them because they really are in a tough spot as each year creeps by.  I would ask them, point blank, what is the plan  for ten years down the line?  I know of at least two who receive SSD or SSI, so they feel they will always have money coming in.

If you friends are a couple, I would try and find the more logical of the two, corner him, and ask some hard questions.  Like, "what are you going to do in 2032?"  It's not easy, you might get some push-back or denial, but if they are friends and you care about them, I think at least one of the two has probably thought about this.  

I would not be surprised if onlyfans looses it's luster.  It is already available on torrents, so it is possible these guys are not being compensated for their work.    It's great they have a friend like you, because when they are 45, friends may disappear.   I wish them luck.

They are not besties so I don’t think it’s my place to say or question their decision. If they are happy, am happy for them. They very much are living in the moment. I don’t know what their financial situation is & I’m making assumptions that their onlyfan is going well since they create content with other onlyfan creators. I imagine they both are doing well enough to keep roof over their heads and survive. One has a regular job while other one I am not exactly sure what he does beyond only fan. 
 
i prefer to keep my opinions to myself as I don’t wish to come off as critical. I see nothing wrong with their choice to do onlyfan. I simply question how long lasting is it & how long can they realistically keep at it. I can only imagine as OF becomes more and more popular way to make side money, other creators will find it harder and harder to mark money off of it.
