The purpose of the list here on BZ is pretty specific: It's because certain words were being used as code for practices that are illegal and are against the rules of the site (with good reason). Yes, it's annoying because the words have legitimate uses. Consider it a challenge to your vocabulary. I'll give an example, for those interested. There is a 5-letter word beginning with "t", derived from a Polynesian language, that in a general sense means "forbidden" - but with the context that it's a cultural proscription. Anyone who remembers the Brady Bunch episodes set in Hawaii should recall the small carved idol that Bobby found and which may or may not have caused all sorts of bad things to happen to others - all the while, he was thinking it was a good luck charm, if I recall correctly. It's often used in certain people's profiles and personal ads to indicate a sexual interest in certain things that are highly illegal (at least in most western cultures). Used in that context - which is almost always how it's used in a sex-oriented discussion space - it's almost certainly going to cause problems, with people using that discussion space to talk about some very unsavory things (and exposing the site to substantial criminal liability). So the word is just banned, period. There ARE other contexts - like the Brady Bunch idol situation - where the word would be appropriate, but as @viking8x6 notes, you can treat it as an opportunity to exercise your vocabulary. The simple term "forbidden" can do about 90-95% of the work there, for instance. 1 1 Quote

I'd hazard a guess that it might have been the race/cultural content. Either that or your lousy Spanish 😉 ,,, Yeah, you are probably right, that was probably it. I guess if he's fair he must down vote a LOT lot of the stories because there are a ton of stories with a lot more race/cultural content than mine. I try to not really offend people in those ways as much as I can while making the stories as interesting as I know how. But I'm not a great writer as I said before, and I even said in the story that my Spanish is poor... I live in an area where a fairly large percentage of the guys who visit the bookstores are Hispanic, probably better than 1/3 I'd guess. So I'm more than OK with playing with those guys. I refuse no dick or load. My Spanish is slowly getting better over time but I doubt I will ever get to functionally literate. Quote

Of course illegal things cannot be allowed. I'll look at it again, if I can find it, and figure it out from that angle. Thanks. Quote
NWUSHorny Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 (edited) Just testing, if the Hawaiian version of the word @viking8x6 referenced is kapu as well. Edit added: Hawaiian version is not banned. Edited March 24 by NWUSHorny Quote

There's an app for that... (actually there are a whole raft of them by now). I've been using one (Duolingo) for a year and a half to refresh my HS Spanish, with excellent results. Recommend. Quote
partying.hard Posted June 26 Report Posted June 26 Is there a way to block someone … not to just avoid the opportunity to communication with the person, but also to avoid seeing the person’s posts and replies? Quote

Yes. You can "ignore" a user, which does just that: "Ignoring a user allows you to block some or all of their content from showing. Users are not notified that you are ignoring them." Select "ignored users" from the drop-down menu on your screen name (upper left of the main page) and add them to the list. You can set preferences for types of content to block. Quote

(Shit, I’m only trying to paste a very small screenshot and it’s still too big. I don’t understand technology) it states “you are not allowed to ignore this user”. Why? Quote
PozBearWI Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 When I've seen that message I've already been ignored, and thus can't ignore someone who is already ignoring me (which does sound sorta like fukken high school doesn't it??? LOL). Quote

The redirection occurs based on where the IP address for your computer is believed to be located. It's not a perfect system, especially for ISPs that operate over broad areas and have a more centralized DHCP system handing out the addresses. So, for instance, let's say your ISP is "BigCable" and all of its Washington, Oregon, and Idaho customers get their IP addresses from a DHCP complex in Boise, then you're going to appear, for all intents and purposes, as an Idaho user insofar as your IP address is concerned. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but my ISP has its DHCP servers located in a much smaller city 60 miles west of here, so I always appear to be in Lafayette, LA when I'm using my home internet (wired or wi-fi). It's also possible that your ISP has multiple DHCP sites, and your location occasionally pulls its address from one of the banned states because a closer one in WA is not responding quickly enough. These things can also happen when you're using a cell carrier for your internet (as on a phone or tablet) - your cell phone's DHCP server could be located in a blocked state, too. That's why a VPN with a server in an "acceptable" state works - you connect to it first, and then all traffic to/from your computer, phone or tablet is routed there first - and to all spots you connect with, you appear to be there, not wherever you actually are. I connect through a VPN server located in Denver, Colorado, for instance (which is why, when I go to a site like weather.com, it automatically pulls up Denver-area weather; when I'm not using the VPN, it shows me Lafayette, LA weather, even though I'm 60 miles from there).
