My choice is someone that isn’t a porn actor but someone behind the scene. I think Michael Mckey is easily one of the most influential people to change porn and gay sex. I remember when he came out with Bareback The Video in 1998. I was in college at the time and I recall how controversial the film was. He and and Hot Desert Knight were the first to put raw sex on the map and I say this in the sense that they were not hiding from bareback. They loudly displayed it and were proud of it and I  recall how so many people were up in arms about it, especially as HDK became more popular. I personally didn’t even know how big the controversy was until years later when I was reading an article about HDK & treasure island. It spoke about the threats, legal actions being threatened, HIV organizations banning together to ban barebacm and production companies like that. 
 

I recall first time I saw the film and just feeling “seen”. At the time I occasionally BB but it was the first time I saw something that told me what I feel about Bb sex was normal and not to be ashamed.

I definitely think honor should be paid to Michael and the  HDK family for opening the doors for a lot of other things like Treasure Island, SX film, Dawson etc etc etc. I will further say that if it weren’t for them BB sex wouldn’t have become mainstream in our community. They really opened the doors to a conversation about how men ideally want to have sex. I credit them for giving me the confidence to say I BB and prefer it that way.

I would add an honorable mention to the late Gordon Grant who was a gay model and porn actor. Grant was in porn back in the late 70s through the 80s with COLT STUDIOS. What really made him stand out was just how naturally masculine and spectacular looking he was. Square jawed with the body of an athlete with high testosterone, Grant possessed every attribute of the ideal young male. He wasn’t covered with tattoos nor loaded on steroids like the prevalent look today in porn so many affect appearing like a hyper masculine warrior fuckgod, he was naturally and he had it in spades.

To be fair, with the advent of rapid testing and PrEP, there's really no major reason for condoms in gay porn any longer (other STIs being an occupational hazard).
