@ErosWired - you're thinking the way I did early on in the process. Take a look at an early version of the vocabulary…

[think before following links] https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/issues/315#issuecomment-1507231220

The issue is right now there's just a free-form text field to report things. It's completely useless. BUT you have to keep things really simple for the end-user - so you can't go all the way in the other direction and overwhelm them with options and nuance.

If you look at the big picture of 68 and 69 you'll see (semi-)professional moderators can be far more detailed in their reports. There's `degree` which let them rank things within a category defined by the vocabulary. They just need tools that will let them submit with that much detail. The end-user apps will never do that because they need to be simple.

In terms of erotica intended to arouse? Some is and some isn't. There's erotica on FB & Insta - I didn't want to lump that in with "pornography". That means in practice we may see people differentiating between softcore porn (meant to arouse) and forms of erotica like burlesque (not meant to arouse).

Again with IL - can't have too many categories to maintain a good UX. More regional issues are handled by the `X-MOD` vocabulary. There's no way in hell I could spell all of those out.

And as far as "in the eye of the beholder" issues - that's OK. Remember that ultimately these reports will be used by people who think like the moderator (since you pick your own moderators). Relays will just pay attention to the illegal stuff (IL) and categories of interest to their user base.

In terms of how I'll use all of that here… I'll let people give their opinions. Then I'll focus on what established members with a good reputation think, average that and if there's not too much variation issue a moderation report that reflects the thinking of our site's community of users.

I have kept my head in the sand regarding this subject as long as possible but here goes.  Will everything that you mentioned be implemented on every social media and hook up site in the very near future, or has it already happened?  Obviously "Meta" and "Barebackrt.com" have an entirely different group of members (at least I think) so I am confused as to how all of these different rules will be implemented, and how it will apply to someone like myself who may come across an app or site and decide to join?  I know the responsible thing to do is READ all the TOS but it is very easy to just scroll down and check off the box that indicates I understand and agree.

My fear is that once I hit that enter key that site now has enough identifying information on me that there is no question as to who I am and where I am located.  I have read posts that BZ was not going to be available in certain states but I thought a VPN would get around issues like that.  Like you mentioned apps need to be simple or people won't use them, I just wonder how quickly all of this is going to be part of our everyday lives or has it already happened?

I should have been following your posts more closely because this is your site and you have mentioned that things would be changing.  It wasn't until I read your most recent post regarding this subject that it dawned on me I better start paying attention.  I know it's not possible to have some blanket statement that makes everyone feel comfortable and informed, because that's impossible.  You mentioned you would let people give their opinions about how these rules would be enforced, I am hoping at some point there's a reference point that members can refer to.  I can't imagine how moderators are going to deal with all of this when you have people joining daily that maybe are new to a Forum like this and may post something that is illegal and can result in a ban.   Like you said, it needs to be kept simple and I would think common sense dictates what I post and what I don't, but everyone is different.

Any idea as to when things will begin to feel differently here, because personally I've been here about fourteen months and after a few initial bumps in the road subject matters and posting still appear to be the same.   Thanks for your time.

@ellentonboy - No, not at all. Nostr is not taking over sites. Most site owners (including me) would want to use Nostr to drive traffic to their sites. So "teasers" will be put on Nostr, but the meat of the content stays on the website, not on Nostr. It'll work like Twitter works now. Models have their real content on one of the fans sites, and the have teasers on Twitter to get people to go to the fans site. Here are some examples of what I might post on Nostr:

  • Today's most active topic on Breeding Zone: "Some thread title" + a link to the thread
  • Today's top user on Breeding Zone was SomeUser + a link to their profile page on BZ
  • Some one from Chicago just liked this pic… 🌇 + a link to the page where they can see all the pics from that scene.
  • [If a user marks their sex party page as public and not requiring a login] A 33 y.o. cumdump is taking all loads tonight at 6pm in the Gay Village, Montréal + a link to their party page + a geotag so random people can see it

If I know your profile on Nostr I can do the following…

  • All you pigs please give a warm, cummy welcome to @SomeUser. It's his first day on Nostr! He's into #bareback #DOMsub #electro
  • @SomeUser just fav'd this pic… 🌉 + a link to see more
  • Anyone in Montréal need a hole to blow a load in tonight? @SomeUser is taking loads in the Gay Vilage…+ a link to their party page + a geotag so random people can see it

The point of that is to give your profile some publicity and build the number of followers you have. Don't want that? Then don't tell me your Nostr ID…

Most people won't, but if you trust me with your private key (or give me a "delegated" private key that's good for a period of time), I can do posts to your account and then repost them on my account…

  • Love that gaping hole! 🎆 + a link to a page where they can see more
  • Who wants to breed me tonight in Montréal? #NoLoadRefused! + a link to your party page

An intermediate option would be that I monitor your posts for particular hashtags, and if I see one then I repost what you posted. That won't require your private key.

Most of that will use data from my new sites, not this one. When you set up profiles on the new sites you'll be able to mark their level of privacy…

  • Public - search engine inclusion OK
  • Public - request search engine to NOT index the page
  • Member's only (people must be signed in to see it)
  • Disabled (if you're taking a break for a while)

Basically if you don't want a search engine to index something I'll take similar precautions on Nostr.

s3x.social is a separate site which is very minimally integrated with this one (you can login with your BZ user name and password). It will help people get set up on Nostr, find other people to follow, etc. If you don't want to be on Nostr or don't want what you do on Nostr connected to anything on one of my sites then don't sign up with s3x_SOCIAL.

Announcement time…

🎉🥳🎈🍾

The social media solution I was telling you about is called Nostr. Not to be too technical, but it's not a site, it's a protocol that defines how to do messages that are cryptographically signed using a decentralized network (for comparison HTTP, FTP, and email are protocols).

I won't go into crazy detail here. I've written A LOT of explainers on my site s3x.social - check out the site to learn all the little details about Nostr.

s3x_SOCIAL

Why I think it'll be great for you guys…

  • It's an open source project and most of the people working on it are releasing their code on GitHub. So far no major companies are involved.
  • Two of the founders of Twitter (Jack Dorsey & another co-founder of Twitter who's non-binary) say Nostr is what Twitter was supposed to be. Jack Dorsey says he prefers it over Bluesky (the social media solution he's now associated with in the press). I'm not mentioning the non-binary's person's name since I don't want this page coming up in Google searches for them, but they've largely dumped a project their company was working on that was based on Scuttlebutt (a Nostr competitor) and is going all in on Nostr.
  • It's impossible to truly censor people on Nostr - that's both a good thing and a bad thing (more on that in a moment).
  • A number of the core Nostr developers are openly sex worker friendly - which hints at a respect/tolerance for sexual minorities.
  • There are currently about a half million active users on Nostr. Most of the users are from the Bitcoin community, but there are also quite a few from China & Japan.

It's important to know that Nostr is pretty rough around the edges right now - but it's improving rapidly. Part of the "rough around the edges" is the fact that it's rather complicated to get started. Which is where s3x_SOCIAL comes in…

s3x_SOCIAL

You won't actually browse Nostr using s3x_SOCIAL. I may add that later, but for now s3x_SOCIAL will focus on doing the following:

  • Help you get started. It'll set up a profile for you, host your xxx rated profile photos, and help you find people to follow. [NONE of that is ready yet. The closest I've come are the previously mentioned instructional "explainers".]
  • It will offer you guys "NIP-05 verification". That will let you be YourName@breeding.zone - or you can choose from a long list of other possible sites, if you prefer one of those instead of breeding.zone.
  • You'll get free use of the s3x_SOCIAL Nostr relay if you use s3x_SOCIAL for NIP-05 validation and agree to be listed in a directory of users. (A relay is one of the data servers that the app you'll use will pull information from. There are some public relays, but most relays require payment - mostly as a way of combatting spam. Anyone can read from the s3x_SOCIAL relay, but only paid or comp'd members can write to it).
  • In time you'll get file storage at s3x_DRIVE. Nostr relays (for the most part) only handle text - not images, video, audio files, etc. For that you'll need to link to the file on a media server. Most media servers don't want x-rated images. If they see one, they'll delete it. I'll be building a porn-friendly media server you can use.
  • (And a bunch more)

If you go to s3x_SOCIAL - DON'T REGISTER! Instead you can login with your Breeding Zone user name and password. BUT there's no point in logging in since I'm still working on you being able to set up your profile. Oh, and registering for / logging into s3x_SOCIAL is not the same registering for / logging into Nostr… You do that with a client app.

Basically, right now, s3x_SOCIAL has a lot of information, but you can't actually do anything on it yet. But it has all the information you need to get started with Nostr. It's just won't be with the easy interface I'll eventually make.

If you do sign up…

Please post your 'npub' in this thread and I'll set things up so you can use the s3x_SOCIAL relay. You can find the Nostr accounts for my sites by following the links on the NIP-05 page.

I'm not posting much (as rawTOP), but if you want to follow me, my npub is: npub1x30jemy23qme0rkc8jkhk72tvzch35emeh6pw968449w4hywys8qg6t4kx

Content Moderation & Safety Issues

The other question is "is this a safe place for people like us?" To that I'd say it's about as safe as any other type of social media - except maybe ones that are locked down and members-only (like the Backroom here). That said, I did get my first death threat on Nostr the other day in response to announcing the launch of the s3x_SOCIAL relay. But the person is an exception - most of the folks there are pretty tolerant and easy going.

Honestly though, more needs to be done to have proper content moderation. Since it's an open source project it's a perfect chance to practice "be the change you want to see in the world" - so I dived in, signed up for GitHub  and started a discussion about how handling of "sensitive content" needed to improve. Since I was discussing sex and porn I managed to use so many explicit terms I got banned by Git's moderation bot. It took me three weeks to get back into my account. Then there was the first Nostr conference which I watched remotely. Only two of the presenters mentioned content moderation. The developer of the only Apple-approved app for iOS mentioned it briefly. But the non-binary co-founder of Twitter I mentioned above dedicated most of their talk to it - to the point people labeled them "the censorship guy". The two of us teamed up and have been pushing the idea of content moderation. We're determined to get something better in place and will keep at it until it happens.

Read this if you want to understand our vision for content moderation on Nostr.

One thing I like about Nostr is the potential fluidity of communities, and "moderation". Mastodon (and a few other platforms) have been trying for years to do what Nostr is finally figuring out and doing right. All Mastodon manages to do is replace a corporate censor with lots of little censors who control their part of Mastodon. When I read it described that way I chuckled - it described my relationship with Breeding Zone pretty much perfectly. Trust me, I'll be a hard ass, and there are times when I have to be, but it's a role I do a little reluctantly.

So with Nostr let's say I ban someone from s3x_SOCIAL - big deal… All that happens when I ban someone is their content gets deleted off my relay.   They're no longer my problem, but you can still interact with them if you want to because they're still on Nostr. Nostr is bigger than my little piece of it.

If you're a developer who uses GitHub, I could use your help

Here are things we could use help with:

  • To get our pull request approved to move forward with content moderation, we need to come up a simple client app that can demonstrate what we're talking about. I'm struggling with that. So any help would be appreciated.
  • We could also use people to support our vision as we introduce pull requests to improve content moderation. So even moral support would be greatly appreciated.
  • There are changes that are needed to other open source Nostr-related projects as well. For example one of the really popular relay servers can't accept reports on content from anyone but paid members if it's in "paid relay" mode. Given than anyone can read the problem content from the relay - that's a legal problem for relay owners like me.

DM me if you can help with any of that.

Sending you a DM about the last part in your message. 🙂

i am fortunate to have found your message board, as my failures in the past to connect with the gay kumdump developers crowd had left me once again speculating about the odds of my ambition, which I try to express here: [think before following links] https://markezra.design –– I should want to learn as much about the protocols you are speaking of because they clearly sound congruent to aspects I'm seeking to develop and implement  here. Also, know I only encroach upon the magickal and majestic realm of tech because I have "literally' been called to do so.  And NOT for my reputation, skill or knowhow: re: spooky action at a distance shit.

The goal is bottom-up content

As a progressive, I feel "grassroots" is the more widely understood term. As a bottom who literally has his bare ass facing upward as he types this... I will embrace and advocate for this lexical upgrade. And for more bottom-up content.

As a software dev with a lloooooooot of time on his hands, diving into the Github repos later today.

If it’s a solution that will just take the shackles off responsible sexual expression, all to the good. If the infrastructure can also be used to build safe havens that would support white-supremacist, neo-Nazi, Q-Anon, anti-vaxxer, antisemitic, flat-earther, homophobic, and generally misinformation, disinformation, hatespeech and troll- friendly platforms, that does not sound like forward progress to me. It sounds alarming.

Only way to counter those is with facts. Shove as many facts down their throat until they can no longer take it. That's how you defeat people. Not complaining that it's alarming. Free speech is free speech, whether you like it or not. That is guaranteed in the Constitution. The thing is are you going to confront them or just turn and run away?

What is guaranteed in the Constitution is that the Federal Government will pass no law curtailing citizens’ ability to speak freely, but that is not absolute. Free speech is not always free speech. We are not free to falsely shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater, nor are we free to speak in an active effort to overturn the duly elected government or disrupt its workings. You can’t shove facts down their throats when they’re busy coughing up ‘alternative facts’ they would rather believe. It does little good to shout facts at people who refuse to listen. You cannot, in fact, force people to believe anything. That’s why an unbelievably ludicrous percentage of this country’s population is evidently prepared to reelect a lying insurrectionist sociopathic narcissist back to the highest seat of power in the land even if he becomes a convicted felon.  Giving the liars, haters, misinformers and deceivers an open, unfettered megaphone to freely lie, misinform and deceive is what has got us to this point.

I agree with the "fire" scenario. But the Constitution states that we can talk freely about the government and protest, which can disrupt governmental workings. The civil rights movement rings a bell here.

As for alternative facts, you have to be more prepared than they are when it comes to facts.

I don't know about you, but I've spoken against bad ideas several times and have come out on top more than a few times. Reason, I took time and effort to learn about what others were thinking and did research so that every counterargument was countered with more facts.

If you don't want to challenge bad ideas, then that's on you, but I will not back down from countering bad ideas. The best thing about free speech, even hate speech, shows where someone is standing in their beliefs. Once those beliefs are exposed, then they can be countered.

Free speech is free speech no matter how much you don't like it. Once you start censoring hate speech, it puts their objective at the forefront and their ideals get a lot more support. Questions are being asked like why their speech is censored when others are not. Can't have double standards when it comes to the Constitution. Either you support it and follow it, or you speak out against it and deny its authority.
