I was wondering if doing porn is still lucrative for guys? I have no idea how much doing a porn scene pays. I think if you have a successful OF or JFF site with plenty of subscribers who pay a monthly fee you make a lot more money that way than doing porn? Plus you get to create your own content instead of following directions from somepne else? Anyone any idea?

When was it ever. For actors I mean. At most 5k a scene in the 80s, and then 1000s of guys joined up, meaning that if you don't do it for 200$ there s a hundred guys who will

The porn millionaire were the first to create onlineporn stores. Now these clever morherfukers made a killing

Almost all the major studios are gone.  Porn stars from the 80s and early 90s made more money than those making videos today.  That's one of the reasons things like Only Fans have taken off - because guys create their own content and then hopefully can get enough followers to make it a living.   It's equally important to know something about marketing and social media because if no one is aware of you, there will not be any paying customers.

Raging Stallion used to have "contract" performers but those days of having a guaranteed number of videos per year are long gone....

Attention is the currency these days so like with anything if you have enough eyes on you it can be lucrative I’d say. I do think it’s a bit over saturated but there’s a damn niche for everything so if someone can tap into that and market themselves I think it can generate. I’ve been told my look is unique and I could get in on it, I’m just lazy lol

That makes sense. VHS copies of porn movies sold well and were not inexpensive (maybe $50/ea).

Most guys now do Chaturbate, OnlyFans, and other online stuff instead to generate interest and drive people to their own websites. That way they get paid direct and its fairly steady revenue if you know how to work it. I know some guys who did porn before it dried up and died are on there like Johnny Stone, Ethan Steele, and quite a few others. They're still in good shape and have followers. I have buds who do it and I've done it too but didn't stick with it...honestly it takes a lot of effort and work to make it pay off. But the old days of porn studios are pretty much gone along with DVDs and VHS tapes. I mean, they are still around but its not like days when people would go and rent DVDs or buy them. It all went online. Its like that for music too...easier to go direct to the public, make more money that way. The guys I know who do the whole Chaterbate/Only Fans stuff do OK...you're not going to get rich doing it, but it helps pay bills, sometimes you get guys who tip nicely, want private shows, or something more.

Also bear in mind that many porn performers escort, and many escorts do porn performing - which one they consider themselves "primarily" (if they do) will vary. A performer might have made $5,000 for a scene in a popular video, but that in turn might have driven $25,000 in escort bookings at $500 a pop.

And yes, sometimes sugar daddies kicked in toys like cars and condos and such.

It's not what it used to be. By the time I joined the biz, the fans sites were not a thing but they were coming up. I've done only a few shoots for studios, and only my scene with Lance Charger made any significant money for me ($1200). The others were less than half of that. AlternaDudes gave me only 200, and it didn't cover expenses to make the vid. Treasure Island has netted only 350 total. Chump change, but still useful. I spent it all the same.

But I wasn't in it to make money. The adventure was important to me. There's less than 1% of us porn stars who can do exclusively this and make enough to live on. And it's true that many of us will hook, or gogo, or OnlyFans, or artsy things to supplement IN ADDITION to a day job. Unless you have a big dong, are extremely extroverted, cute and youthful (or at least have the energy of 22 year old), and live in a great place for multiple opportunities, it's incredibly challenging to make a decent go of it.

Internet piracy and the decline of physical video sales impacts this greatly, too.

DVDs and VHS tapes.

Really .... is there a market for them today?  I haven't seen it in years, but I know there's a decent-sized box of them somewhere ... maybe the garage ....

It's insane that guys expect to do OnlyFans etc as a living. Just insaner the money they make not even escorting as sort of work. Crazy even in the 80s and 90s actors knew they would make money from escorting and/or dancing etc at bars. In most cases had regular jobs be it bartending etc. These days they expect to live off 2 20 minute "collaborations" a week or month, nuts how entitled they are. But that's Gen Z in general 😞 in my opinion.
