That's what the President has been saying for a number of days now, and I believe him.  He has no intention whatsoever of abandoning the race, and the more noise he hears about it, the more he digs in.

So, what to do?  Obviously, he can't be forced out.  There will be Congresspersons whispering in his ear about it's time for this or that, but it sounds to me like he's determined to stay the course.

And, I support him 100%.  Here's why:

The other guy is at least as foggy mentally as the President.  The other guy has zero ideas (fresh or old) about policy, how to achieve them, just vague, word-salad mumblings about nonsensical issues.  The other guy is at least as foggy every single day as the President was at that so-called debate.  The other guy is within shouting distance of the President in age, clearly so out-of-shape that his physical health must certainly be compromised.  Any guy at his age, that corpulent, painting his face so people don't notice the sagging, clearly has physical issues.

Some are calling for the President to undergo cognitive testing.  I say, either both undergo those cognitive tests, or neither.  All the talk means nothing, but if push comes to shove, both the President and the other guy should be maneuvered into being tested.  Either both or none.

Some are calling for a "fresh face" to be nominated at the shortly-upcoming Convention in Chicago*.  I say we already have a duly-elected official, eminently capable of stepping into the Oval and assuming the Presidency, were something worse to happen to the President.  I might point out that some voices are even calling to step over the Veep, which would be political suicide.  Imagine the rage - the unmitigated rage our Black friends and neighbors would feel about that slight; that would be political suicide, as well as a blunt insult to a most capable woman.

The talking heads on the news channels are scraping every barrel-bottom they can find to dig up political no-bodies in their incessant stirring of the pot.  For instance, Mike Quigley (90th) of the HoR.  I remember him well, all the characteristics of a "downtown hack" - without a scintilla of his own thoughts.  These constantly "talking heads" on the news channels are only feeding the frenzy, in the name of "almighty ratings", quoting inane polls, talking to nobodies (those that do count, know better than to sink into that quagmire).  We've heard nothing from the actual leaders in Congress so far.

In the event that the President suffers more episodes, he will do what's best for 1) the Nation, and 2) his health.  He's already accomplished so much more than the other guy did, and the US is the better for it.

I stand with the President, unless he comes to another course of action.

*I well-remember the last one .... heady days, those !!!

I would add (I think it has been referenced elsewhere on here) read up on Project 2025

that should scare anyone into voting for Biden - no mater what

I will admit that I was really worried after tge debate… but unless Biden goes willingly- AND with a carefully thought out succession plan in place … it would be a blood bath

and while I am old enough to have stayed up late watching the old contested conventions and they were great television

but we are not looking for great television…. We need to make sure that Trump is defeated

so the Democrats need to get out of their circular firing squad and get behind the president

and I get the press … this is really easy fun mastabatoty copy to write as they fantasize about who should or shouldn’t take over …. But if they care they should shut up too

That's always the case with any incoming Administration:  it's the entire purpose of having a Vice President in the first place.  When the votes are in and counted in any presidential race, the Veep is "in place", up to speed on a daily (or hourly, for that matter) basis, and ready to assume the reins of Government at any moment they're needed.  That's automatic.

For any Democratic official to suggest otherwise would be the affront to the long-standing "norm".

As someone said, “I will vote for Biden’s brain in a jar before I vote for Trump.”

For about 20 years now, if not longer, I have been saying "I will vote for the Democrat even if the candidate is the reanimated zombie corpse of Adlai Stevenson" - not because I think Democrats are perfect, but because the Republican Party is that bad.

While more often than not the candidates I vote for in state and federal positions are Democrat more than Republican.  For my county elections I've little choice but to vote for Republicans, so it comes down to "which one?".   To the credit of those forming my village; parties are not allowed in our elections.

My wish (and yes, I know unlikely) is that we could remove parties altogether.  Ultimately we are voting for a person to do a job.  And a focus on who that person is and what their pattern of decision making is would, ideally, be how we make our choices.  (Even grade school Jim didn't understand why it mattered that John Kennedy was the "pretty one").

While I appreciated that President Biden gave a press conference on July 11, honestly it was painful to watch.  I am hopeful that at the Dem convention Joe will step down and be ready with a whole slate so that coming out of the convention we can have a more organized Democratic party (recall please I dislike parties but they are what we have to work with).

this whole dragged out election cycle has gotten so depressing i long for those 18-22 yo years where i went into Nov barely knowing who the two candidates were.

I'm not American but, complaining about politicians here in Europe, I'm really hopeless about USA as well.

If Trump wins, it's dems who put America and the world in his hands this is my raw, cold, dirty, scared thought.

Allow me to insert a qualifier, if you will ....

"it's dems (who don't bother to VOTE) that may put America and the world in those hands"

Same thing I say about far right politicians we have here. People who abstain are in a very high percentage, and then they even say "we have won"

Won what! If 61 percent of population doesn't vote...

Btw, politicians should consider this as a signal: no vote means no trust, what should be made to create a change?

They think to ride the wind of rage, instead.

this is imho the political equivalent of "well what were you doing out at night dressed as a slut. you basically wanted to get raped"

if trump wins it will be because half the country looked at a modern day Hitler knock-off and said "yes please".

Perfectly understood your point of view, talking about victim blaming. And agree that's not the right way to go - that's why I say it's my scared thought! Freudian slip said "raw" I meant RUDE!

True, half the country wants a dictator but can Biden be still an alternative? I'm wondering of this, I don't have the truth in my pockets. I'm scared like many of us are.

Actually I am glad I started paying attention to all the candidates from an early age.  I started as a voter registrar and election judge in my early 30's; and could never side with any party as completely as I could with individuals.  To me, parties are more like sports team names; and running a government isn't a sport.  Or shouldn't be.  There are a number of things to be done; not just the one the media goes on about.  Some essential for the operation of our nation/state/county/municipality; some truly to advance society collectively.

Unlike what used to be normal races; both candidates were capable to honoring our constitution; and advancing solutions MOST of us want, rather than just half.  And I submit we get to half because we are rooting for our cause rather than ALL the causes.  I know in local government we've been able to work out compromise which serves most.

Joe is pretty good at compromise.  But he is only six years older than I am; and I would prefer to see him mentor younger political people.

The other thing in our current public discourse is to encourage Joe to step away rather than encourage Joe to prefer to endorse a slate where he can mentor (as he has Kamala) others.  I'm not hearing of "the alternative slate"; and at this point in the race; clarity on Joe vs ??? is pretty essential to me.  What I hope is happening is that behind the scenes the party is working on that slate so that, perhaps, AT the Dem convention Joe might start by stepping away; and put forth a slate.  And then the delegates work on that vs ??? if they see fit.  I would rather it happen then than in the media before then.  (after all, isn't the convention purportedly where the party selects it slate?).

It's both. It's also because a goodly percentage of people just don't bother to vote at all. Studies generally show that a solid majority (like, >60%) of people who routinely don't vote have progressive/liberal sentiments; they just think it won't do any good to vote. If they voted, the right-winters (who DO turn out to vote, regularly) would never win the presidency OR a majority in either chamber of Congress.
