I have to say I really miss this. I started doing it when I was 20. It has never really been a thing where I live now, at least in the 19 years I've lived here. Through my travels, I haven't found that it has disappeared everywhere, and have definitely enjoyed hooking up this way when I'm somewhere where it is still a thing.

I'm almost always cognizant of trying to it in a way that I won't be caught by those that aren't interested, but absolutely love the exhibitionist and group aspects of it when done in way that mitigates risks and can be found by others seeking the same thing. It usually drives me nuts when I see guys doing it in a way that is likely to get caught by non-cruisers and risk bring law enforcement action to the cruising spots. I was really disappointed to learn on my recent trip to Palm Springs that they were going through a major crackdown on outdoor cruising spots, but also saw enough brazenly bad behavior in my recent visits to understand why it reached that point.

I miss the gloryholes at almost every univerisity or College. There always at least one bathroom know for cruising and it had a gloryhole. But sudenly they all disappeared from the universities and moved to the saunas. We only had 1 glory hole that I remember on my college campus. There were however numerous washrooms that had a lot of under the stall action, sharing stalls, and urinal action. The washroom with the glory hole was huge probably a dozen stalls but only had 1 glory hole, and was pretty much an orgy every afternoon from 3 to 5, with anywhere from 10 to 30 guys playing at the same time. It was mostly cock sucking, we usually but not always went somewhere else to butt fuck, but I would be very surprised if there weren't at least a few guys fucking in there everyday. Those days were heady ones for sure ... there was a bar in downtown Rock Island - can't recall the name - with a gh in the men's room that almost always had guys in the stalls sucking each other off.  Come to think of it, I think the name was Hunters?  Always "live" music, different genre's, great burgers, etc.   Whatever the name, that was my initiation to the "gloryhole experience".

Sounds like you and I share some facets of our earlier days;  I went to an LCA (Augustana Synod) undergrad school, and there was a ton of gay sex going on.  There was a "lower campus" (the original) and an "upper campus" (where they had expanded during the 1960's (I think), overlooking the Mississippi.  There were heavy-duty stairs built between the two, higher than the ground-level (which was a steep grade covered with weeds, wild shrubs, and obviously guys at night sucking/fucking in the wild growth all night long.  The mosquitos had a nightly banquet too.  But the real action took place in the basement of the Student Union every Saturday night, which was managed by a gay guy.  Oddly, I don't recall what time he opened the door to the basement (from outside the building), but there would be 40, 50 guys milling around outside, waiting for the door to open, and more guys showing up once the door was opened.

@muscmtl @hntnhole despite the unfolding AIDS crisis, the 1980's were a great time to be a horny young guy! It's hard for old guys, that lived through it to understand why guys in most places today don't seem to be taking full advantage of the freedom PREP should be giving us.

As a guy who took full advantage of the 80's hook up,glory hole, cruising culture I agree. I am surprised that they have not made a heavy comeback. I guess the web dies make it easier to breed and seed, feed and swallow in a more comfortable environment. Anyway, they were great times.

Bathrooms never did it for me. I'd say it's the risk, but really I'm germ-phobic. Ironic, no? Anyway, my risks were taken on the NY Subway, but it was more like exchanging numbers and then hooking up later. There were also the bars, where I met some interesting men, along with a gay synagogue where some of the regular members enjoyed passing around the young (I was in my 20s) newbie. Risks were somewhat inherent; I was never hurt physically, but got my pocket picked and a watch stolen. Smart phones, online sites and dating apps have put the kibosh on all of that. No one (including me) looks up from their phones. I wouldn't have met one of the guys I met who fucked me regularly in my 20s in this environment. Ah, well. There are advantages and disadvantages to every age.
