I have syph , HSV2 and Hep B - negative on everything else,. The syph was latent, so probably had it a long time (3 shots of penicillin is dropping the #s, don't know how long it will take to be clear). The HSV2 is old as well, probably 15 yrs and I've never given it to anyone (that one is easy...have an outbreak, don't fuck anyone). The Hep B is about 5 months in, 3 liver tests so far and the #s are dropping in half each time - if it's clear within a year all is good, otherwise it will be considered chronic and require ongoing treatment. Thanks - the description of the syphilis treatment is exactly what my doctor is doing - after the three treatments, the numbers halved and I'll have another rtst in a month or so. For my Hep B it was caught right away so they've tested three times so far and the ALT and AST numbers are dropping each time, as they would hope - another retest will come at 6 months and then at one year, where they hope the numbers are normal which would indicate no chronic infection. You have to have the dual deletion from your gene sequence (CCR5-delta32 x2) in order to have the natural immunity, but it appears to only provide immunity from the CD4 strain of HIV, not the newer CD5, so even those few who have the dual deletion should probably be on Prep to be more certain of avoiding the infection.

After reading more about this, it seems there are two primary strains of HIV? One was the "original" and now a second strain is slowly becoming more prevalent - and Truvada contains two elements that prevent one strain but most likely not the second, newer one. In addition, if you have autosomal (meaning from BOTH parents) CCR5-Delta32 (a deletion from your gene sequence) you are almost immune from contracting HIV, from possibly both strains. So, I wonder, if someone has the autosomal CCR5-Delta 32 AND takes PrEP, have they fully protected themselves from HIV?

I was doing the same as your reality now, but without prep - for almost 20 years - it's a miracle I'm not positive, but now that I've been tested I stopped, because I have Hep B and latest syphilis. To the original poster - I hear you and I was in that same mental "place" for over a decade.
