    I would like to read the entire analysis of how Clinton and Obama moved the Overton window to the right because it doesn’t sound plausible in the least. Moral Majority, Reagan, Gingrich/Contract with America, BushJr., and Trump were all dramatic pulls to the right.

    Agree that crazy is subjective. In the context of the current congressional circus, crazy goes way beyond just having out-of-the-mainstream political beliefs. To me, crazy here would be legislators that do everything possible to make sure that governing is impossible. Legislators that are opposed to legislating. Clinton was in favor of full participation of gays in military. His embrace of DADT was a political compromise. And though it came to be recognized as a vile policy, it was probably an essential step forward toward LGBT equality. Sinema and Manchin aren’t crazy. But I’d venture to say that along with Menendez, they are horribly corrupt.

    @JimInWisc I don’t mean to misinterpret what you said. But I don’t know of any extreme crazies in Dem caucus. Since we don’t want extreme crazies, I guess there’s no shortage even if we have zero.

    Agree strongly with most of the OP. It’s critical that we engage on local and state levels. I don’t agree that it’s always easy to figure out who the best choice is. In Dallas, our local/county elections are nonpartisan, and some campaigns are well practiced in obscuring the candidate’s real positions. That’s especially true in school board elections. Before voting, I always check the endorsements of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas and generally follow their recommendations. If you live in an urban area, you can likely find an LBGTQ or other progressive organization that screens candidates and can inform your choices. Straight-ticket voting isn’t same as down-ballot voting though. Straight ticket refers to voting straight down the ballot for all nominees of the same party. In most jurisdictions, that means straight-ticket voting is irrelevant in primary elections. In general elections, I always vote a Democratic straight ticket. I understand the appeal of voting for person not party, I just think it’s a fool’s errand given our political system and the current political climate.

    Chronic Hep B, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and then crabs multiple times. I have antibodies for Hep A and Hep C but never got sick from them. I picked up HSV1 by kissing a girl onstage during college theatre production, so that’s the only one I still (rarely) deal with by taking valcyclovir.

    It sounds like you’re on the right track. When you see doc about PrEp just ask if there’s anything else you should do. I mentioned DoxyPEP to prevent other STIs. This treatment is only now becoming recommended and seems very exciting to me. I myself am getting my first prescription today. Since you’re coming from another country, be sure you get familiar with the perils of American healthcare. It’s really a mess and can get very expensive. There are some good posts relating to this issue on this site. Last night I was reading a thread called “When is the best age to become poz?” where @ellentonboy posted a long discussion about his process for getting health insurance.

    I was also 19 when I first had sex. Gosh, those were long years waiting to get to a big city so that I could find other gay guys. But that was a very different time before AIDS and the internet. I wouldn’t even try to advise you on modern coming out and hooking up. However, I strongly urge you to think carefully about your health. I totally understand wanting your first sex to be raw. And I would feel the same way. The great thing is that you can go raw and be pretty safe too, but it will take some planning. Take precautions. Find a doctor or free clinic where you can get medial consultations. At minimum, I’d suggest getting on PrEP and get vaccinations for HPV and hepatitis. You can also get a prescription for doxycycline to take after having condomless sex to dramatically reduce the risk of catching an STI (DoxyPEP). I’m definitely not a medical expert, so others will probably correct me or add to the list. Reading posts on this site can make risky sex sound great - it sure does to me! But I urge you to take a step at a time. Just having sex for the first times is unimaginably exciting. If later you want to stop PrEP, you’ll be in a much better headspace to make that life-altering decision. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

    I haven’t yet been to Cumunion, but I also have a question. Is a Cumunion event that is held at a bath house really all that different from a regular busy night at that same bath house? If so, what makes it different? Here in Dallas, Cumunion is held in a private warehouse type space, I think. Seems preferable. But hopefully I’ll find out for myself next month.

    I have no problem with daily pill compliance since I take numerous pills every morning. What could be an advantage is getting STI testing every two months.

    When I first visited NYC (‘81, I think), a friend took me to the Mineshaft. A mind-blowing experience! I was afraid to do anything, but I saw things I could have never imagined - and that I certainly thought I’d never do. My favorite places for actually getting involved in the fun have all disappeared: Bijou (Chicago) Blow Buddies (San Francisco) Hollywood Spa (LA) The Trestle (Dallas) Midtowne Spa (Dallas) And when I lived briefly in Helsinki 11 years ago, there was a video store that had a great downstairs where I spent many nasty nights. Can’t remember its name and don’t know if it’s still there. Need to find places for new memories now. Hope to make a trip to LA and Palm Springs soon. And next month, my first CumUnion.

    Several great points made by @tallslendergyuy and @hntnhole. I’m not an experienced sub and am sure I’m not typical, but I’ve never felt degraded during B&D. I suppose it’s a combination of the personality of the Dom and my own head space. For example, I find drinking piss very intimate. If the Dom were to order “swallow that nasty piss, slut,” the words would add an air of sleaze but my focus would stay on the erotic golden stream. I love the sound and stings of a good flogging. My skin tingles with sexual excitement. Hot wax? Yes, please. A little pain is a lot of fun. But I can imagine all sorts of degrading acts that a serious Dom might force on me. Maybe I could find such an experience hot too. But not sure I want to find out.

    I so loved the Trestle. Midtown, too. I had high hopes when Club D was renovating. Thought it was going to be bigger and include the Cellblock play space that they had for a while. Sadly, that was not the case. Renovation cleaned things up a bit, but smaller. And they replaced the spacious pool and secluded areas with a smaller pool. Disappointing. Can’t comment on the crowd since I haven’t been there in a couple of years. Plan to check it out again soon.
