News out of Indiana today: a federal court there granted a preliminary injunction against that state's law which would require adult web services to require age-verification from Indiana residents.

In essence: Indiana wanted to require adult sites (those with >one-third of content being "adult") to verify the age of anyone logging into said sites from Indiana. In a very thorough and clear opinion, the court essentially said "this is bullshit".

The decision can and will be appealed, of course, but sooner or later this issue is going to come up again before the Supreme Court. I used to be confident that even with conservatives in charge there, the First Amendment was still clearly understood, but with Alito and Thomas willing to say "they didn't allow this stuff in 1787 so the US doesn't have to either" for just about anything, I'm no longer confident that the position that adults should be able to view adult content would get any traction there.

As of today I've added Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky and Nebraska to the list. As @BootmanLA mentioned, Indiana came very close to being added as well. Free Speech Coalition is the reason why that law is suspended (for now). Please give to them if you're able so legal challenges like that one can have more success.

I've also updated the OP so you can see the full list of blocked states…

I'm scared, feeling that the whole western world is gradually addressed to that direction (far right). They give a false sense of safety and protection but what they want is all power on them. This fact of porn sites is the main symbol of this, and convincing people is not difficult - just needed to talk about kids and parents, abuses on minors, etc.

I would really follow the advice of  @rawTOP and use a VPN.  I have been using one on my MacBook Air for a number of months now.  I have my location set as New York City.  Though it's annoyed some guys on other sites who assumed I was in their area, i figure it is only a matter of time before Florida is blocked so I thought I would get a head of the game and protect myself.  It costs me less than $5 a month and it's well worth it.

SCOTUS has just agreed to hear Free Speech Coalition’s challenge of the Texas AV law. So by this time next year we should have some sort of resolution to the legal questions. But given the make-up of the court, it may just lead to more AV laws. But at least things will be less up in the air.

This is why who you vote for matters - they determine the make-up of the court…

I also have a controversial website; and wonder what my peril might be in the coming months?  Election worker here, locally elected as well.  And site owner of a perhaps even more controversial site.

I not only hope we all vote, but that we take time to consider the trajectory humanity seems to be taking (not just the US); and make choices that help our freedoms and not just that we wish to be free OF.

It does often seem that way.  And oddly those doing about half of the social castigation/block of speech are from the tips of BOTH parties.  Women might have it worse as they aren't allowed to make decisions about what happens inside their own bodies.  That's fucked up...

I submit that the Christians are anything but Christian.  They've absconded with the name; but have become polar opposites of the namesake of that belief.  Fellow white people....  Hold up a sheet of bright white copy paper next to your face in the mirror.  Who the fuck can claim white anymore?  Enough already.  And guns...  Ugh...  A perverted second amendment.  By intent it is for mutual protection; not aggression.

Where to from here my brothers?  Can we really just sit back and watch this continue????
