Porn is work.  In my seven shoots I had:

1)  The "gang" for a gang bang was not vetted properly.  Out of 5 guys who showed up (after they'd arranged for and expected 8 ) one was a total bottom, one said he'd get hard if he could do a specific act (he didn't), one was high and unusable.  So we had a "gang" of two.

2)  The DP looked great in the finished video--it took over an hour to shoot about 6 or 7 minutes as we tried different positions and waited for the bottom who had to do another touch up as we'd gone so deeply.

3)  The producer made a move on the bottom--who became offended and locked himself in the bathroom.  I finally talked him out of it and we filmed--an hour late.

4)  There is a shot of me fucking from underneath.  I love to look at it.  While filming, the light on the camera was so hot, it burned my calf and I felt like the hair on my balls would ignite.

5)  The director ordered me when and how to shoot...which can be a real challenge.  Especially since we were supposedly doing reality porn.

Am I glad I did it?  Yes.  I am very glad to have a record of myself.  I like when guys start an email with "Is that you in...."  I met some terrific guys--and some real losers.

You make it sound so pedestrian, which I suppose it is.  Interacting with people can be so ducking annoying.

Does anyone knows how much those Poz Tops get paid Treasure Island Media or Raw Fuck Club? Considering it shouldn't be the same rate as escorting.

I couldn't say for poz tops, since I am not one, but when I interviewed with them six years ago, they told me the pay "wasn't much". When I enquired about the amount, it was around $200. I was told that they don't cover travel or hotel expenses like some of the other studios, and they use local models to keep their expenses down. The gist of it was that these local disposables are getting the privilege of fucking hot guys and appearing on film, and the pittance is just a bonus.

It may have changed since then, but I doubt it.

I would love to have a porn actor for a bf. Not because I'm star struck, but just because I think it'd be hot to be dating someone who was out there whoring himself on film. Making a visual record of his sodomy, with guy upon guy. I would also want similar in a non porn bf, but the porn adds an extra special layer of depravity.

My late husband was incredibly proud of snagging a lover who used to do porn. He would introduce me at public events, tell people where to find my one available film, and talked me up to be greater and more famous than I actually was. Perhaps he was starstruck. I did show him my film - he said it was not impressive but also that it wasn't my fault that it wasn't impressive. The director and my co-star pretty much took care of that.

I was offered to do a solo for Treasure Island Media about 7 years ago in NYC and was $200, so penetration don't pay any higher hmmm interesting... I want to do a private porn vid with all poz actors and want to calculate a budget.

Last decade, when I worked with Max Sohl in NYC, the pay was $500.  I had Max write it out to a charity instead - I wasn't doing it for the money.  I did it the first time (Dawson's 20 Load...) because it sounded like a really hot gang bang (and it truly was!).  From that point on, I knew the shoots were going to be piggy and a lot of fun, and they were just what I wanted.

Marc

Thanks, this give me a budget idea... I want to shoot a private porn vid and I wanted to know around how much to hire all poz actors for hot poz pnp fetish.

With the rates mentioned by @leatherpunk16 and @Marc Short it doesn't look like you can make a living just doing porn. Or maybe you could for a little while but risk overexposure? So I guess guys would need a daytime job? I wonder what that is like when your face and ass/cock are all over the internet.

Indeed, one cannot. There's a very small percentage of guys doing porn that can do exclusively that and make a livable income. Nearly all of us who thus expose ourselves will also do escorting, gogo, etc. to make it more lucrative. But a day job is necessary because of the random jig aspect of things, and you need the flexibility to be gone for a few days for filming. Working in retail, for example, might not be ideal for a porn star because things are filmed on weekends, and stores are busiest on the weekends.

Some examples:

Jesse Jackman works in IT.

Silver Steele works for an oil rig company (I think).

Aleks Buldocek is a social worker.

I work for a church - and yes, they know what I used to do. It was a very awkward conversation.

It's just a side hustle. But most employers don't need to know about such things.

This is certainly true. I supplemented porn work with other income such as photo modeling, escorting, and fitness training, which allowed for scheduling flexibility. A unique and shorter-term combination of variables.

After my first shoot with Treasure Island, producer Max Sohl asked  if he should forward e-mails to me from fans who wanted me to escort for them.  I was confused, but Max told me that other tops in 'Dawson's 20 Load Weekend' were escorts and would use their appearance in porn as a way to boost their reputation and awareness.  That's probably why they worked for such low pay in film - they'd make a TON more from escorting because they were now on DVD and had 'credentials' as a great top.  It is NOT over-exposure but rather promotional exposure to help attract escort clients and repeat trade.

My friend who hires escorts almost exclusively chooses men  who have done porn.  He uses their movies as "an audition."  It has served him well.

You are right about them using local that seems to be why they are listing cities like Seattle as locations that they film.  For Seattle they just have Dice come up from Portland for a weekend or few days and they film in a hotel room, bar, or bathhouse using locals and sometimes a few out of town stars but the stars seem to be doing escort work, or gogo work at local clubs and bars to maximize their earnings for the visit which would indicate they had to pay for their own travel.

Piracy and the idea some have that porn should just be free (then who pays for making it?) is what has killed the days of $500 per scene and travel expenses covered.  Studios now either have to pay a company to patrol the web for their pirated stuff to file take down requests or do it themselves both of which are not cheap and then you have to continually monitor because it is like playing whack a mole they just get reposted again.  Or they just give up and let videos get pirated and settle for the reduced revenue either way they are not making the money they used too.

If I was someone who hired escorts I have always said to myself that I would only hired guys from porn.  The audition thing is one benefit or doing that but also they are the guys who you have watched many times and gotten off to.  So it seems like it would be a logical next step if you're going to start using the services of escorts to hire one of those guys who's videos you have watched to experience them live and in the flesh.  Plus it gives you that feeling of living out  a fantasy.

Exactly.  That is certainly the other reason he does it.  I know he thinks "This dick has been in the hottest men in the country and now it's going in me."  I've done it too, when he's included me.  I remember fucking Dolf Dietrich thinking "This ass has taken so much cock...." and wishing some of those loads were still in him.

Is Pornhub the exception? There are plenty of professional scenes on there from all kinds of companies, and they stay there. Is that maybe because either Pornhub is too big to take on or is it that it's a good place to 'advertise'? Meaning if someone sees a scene there they may want to buy the DVD or a paid download of the full movie from their company site?

An example is EricVideos. Each scene includes a statement that if someone sees the vid anywhere else than on their own site people are asked to report it so they can take it down or take legal action. Yet the scenes stay on Pornhub. I could understand the 'free advertising' argument. I am just wondering if that is why companies seem to accept their 'pirated porn' being on Pornhub.

Pornhub is owned by mindgeek the same people that own MEN.com, SeanCody, etc
