I'd note that there is some overlap between "suicide" and "overdose", separately largely by intent, which is not always easy to discern.

I'm not sure porn is the only industry where drugs are deliberately overlooked or encouraged - the bar/rave/music scene, for instance, is notorious for that too. Side story: back in the early 90's, my home state (Louisiana) legalized video poker machines (they're not really poker games, they're more like slot machines that use poker hands instead of spinning wheels to display whether you win). Bars and nightclubs were allowed to have up to three machines each. Like most amusement machines (pinball, whatever), a gaming device company owns the machines, installs, and maintains them, and the bar owner and the company split the revenues.

They were so popular that a bar owner could readily profit $5K a month per machine - for nothing other than allowing the machine in his bar and supplying it with power - so 3 machines netted the bar $15,000 a month in new profits, or about $180,000 a year, plus or minus. After about 3 years, an anti-gambling reform movement got a referendum set where each locality had to authorize whether to continue to allow the machines. Mine voted it out.

A casual friend and his partner owned one of the gay bars here (they're the ones I got the numbers from). At the end of that three years when the machines were unplugged, they had about $0 to show for it - the vast majority of the money had gone up people's noses, with some additional amount spent on things like travel.

I did a scene for Triga here in the UK. On the DVD 'Fucking Gangsters - Extra Dealings', opening 60-minute scene. So I guess my point is, respect an individual's privacy.  If you come across an individual and you are in a club, at a party, at a sex party and you recognize them, I don't think there is anything wrong with asking them privately if they are indeed the performer you thought they were.  But to call them out by their "screen name" or "porn name" in front of a group of men  it is not a good thing to do.  For all you know, that individual may have put that part of his life behind him and may have moved on, either being single or in a relationship (and yes men who are in relationships do go to group sex parties, present company included).  

Granted, no one forced these men to participate, but for them to have to carry the burden or title to porn star for the rest of their lives is a bit much.  I would test the waters gently before calling someone out about their past.  I wouldn't like it done to me, they don't like it done to them, and I am sure many posters here would not enjoy it happening to them as well.

See, a perfect example of being in one of the largest cities in the world, but if you have a past in porn, people will remember you.  It's like being a great trick, someone may have played with you 15 years ago, and had a great time.  You may not remember them, but the minute you walk in the door they call you by your first name and tell everyone what a great time you are.  I think it is the same for porn performers.  I know many who worked in porn subsidized their income by escorting, and those folks too, remember you well.  I have had clients who I first saw in Philadelphia, only to book them again in Florida, and they remember me the minute they open the door.  The world is a smaller place than we think, and also media will follow you forever.  You can stop running your ads for escorting, but if you made a film in the early 2000s, it's still readily available.  I laugh at these guys who are 20 or 21, they act like people didn't have sex in the 80s, 90s or early 2000s.  I am a bit taken back when they make remarks like "oh I would never have sex with someone in their 30s or 40s".  Buddy, yes you will!  If you are good, people remember you, and they will respond accordingly.

I no this is sort of off topic - but I found Dawson (of Dawson's 50 load weekend) on BBRT yesterday.  In 2004 I was in NYC and we had both  been nailed by the same guy top within like a 4 hour period.  I knew the guy well and when he asked  if I would take a pic on his bed with this other guy I said "Sure"!  Well the other guy was Dawson.
