Administrators rawTOP Posted March 23, 2018 Administrators Report Posted March 23, 2018 Congress has passed, and the President will soon sign, a law that makes anything escort-related illegal. The US no longer differentiates between consensual sex work and sex trafficking. For more about the law, check out this link: https://www.xbiz.com/news/234491/sestas-passage-has-immediate-chilling-effect-on-adult-content-distribution Just as a reference, the entire Craigslist personals section is now completely gone. So, going forward, there is to be no mention of escorts or escorting. No mention of receiving or giving payment for sex. And so on. The only exceptions would be clearly fictional stories in the fiction section, or factual telling of a story involving an escort where you casually mention that s/he was an escort. There was a fairly big and active section on here about female escorts that barebacked. Most of the discussion was about escorts in/around London where escorting is legal. I've had to shut it down. I need your help… Please scour the site and find all non-fiction references to escorting and use the report function immediately under the post to report the post, and a moderator will hide the post or thread if the entire thread is dedicated to the subject of escorting. If the law is ever modified to something more sensible, we can restore those posts/threads. For the time being no infractions will be given for escort-related posts. Then we'll start giving infractions to repeat offenders, and once everyone is aware of the new rules, we'll give infractions like we do with other problem content.
BareBen Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 LOL that's rich, Donald Trump signing a law inhibiting sex work. Poor Stormy Daniels. 6 5
Jlsdyt100 Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 The net is closing, it would probably better to wipe the entire site and start over, since a lot of what's posted here is going to get the attention of many authorities if it hasn't already.
AirmaxUK Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 I don't know much about this topic, being based in the UK, but if the site was hosted in another more liberal country, could this be avoided? These days it seems to not matter so much where sites are hosted especially with caching services like Cloudflare.
Guest alwaysready Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 agreed for the time being the sex for money talk is verboten. I suspect the law will be challenged and the plaintiffs will ask for an injunction blocking implantation of the law, while the legal proceedings continue. depending on the judge who hears that motion, he/she may or may not grant it. even then I think it would be well advised to stay mum on anything approaching sex for hire. if the law is struck down by the supreme court--in like 5 years, all will go back to normal.
Guest takingdeepanal Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 Craigslist will probably end up closing altogether. Let's face it - why do most people visit the site?
Guest takingdeepanal Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 @rawTOP - how far back do you want us to go? I have some time on my hands today (it's morning here in Australia).

We're going through everything with the term 'escort' and examining it. But reporting less overt stuff would be useful.
Moderators drscorpio Posted March 23, 2018 Moderators Report Posted March 23, 2018 Does this include discussions of bathhouses, Cum Union parties, and other sex venues that charge?

Nope. Just prostitution. (e.g. mentioning pay for doing commercial porn is fine).
a6uldeve84u Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 I do hate to say this as it potentially could become a nightmare for the staff. To err on the side of prudence, it would seem that anyone who does search out such references might want to report anything of a suspicious nature to the staff. I realize that this will put a huge burden on the staff to review such notices but it would seem better to be absolutely thorough than to have an overlooked item resulting in a closing of the site and/or fines. I find it abhorrent that this law is or is about to be enforced. I have already written to my congressman and railed against the law. I sent copies to my two senators, but I know those will fall on deaf ears (McConnell and Paul of Kentucky). And, yes, I sent my messages via my Bellsouth address. When the internment camps (read gulag or concentration camp) are open, I'll be there no doubt. But, I won't go quietly. 1
evilqueerpig Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 The subject doesn't interest me at all, but do what must be done for the survival of the site! 1
Guest takingdeepanal Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 Please note that we need to be politically-neutral. It passed 97-2. Both sides should either be praised - or condemned - equally. Mark my words - a LOT of well-known websites will shutter their windows either temporarily or permanently. Interesting to note - CL's Australian "branch" still has personals. Wonder how long for (and I wonder how long CL itself will survive - or will some get around "sex for sale" by utilizing the "marketplace" section).
ErosWired Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 @rawTOP - Are we also concerned about references to “whoring out”, particularly where they involve instances of one person offering the services of another, even though no consideration may change hands? Does this meet the definition of trafficking as concerns the statute? We have discussions on here in which Tops give the opinion that cash in such exchanges is an important part of the experience, even though it’s not the reason the bottom chooses to do it.
Guest takingdeepanal Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 Should the AOC thread also be removed? Not a concrete correlation - but it COULD be interpreted as trafficking.
