What does cumunion look like in your town?

I work at a bath house that hosts a regular cumunion party but we don’t really do much beyond announcing it on Twitter, otherwise it’s a pretty ordinary night. We’ve been thinking about how to spruce it up. If you attend cumunion events, how do the venues host it and what do you like/dislike about it?

I have only attended Cumunion events at Hawks PDX in Portland, Oregon. As far as I can tell they don't do anything different except maybe have more staff on hand because it has always been packed every time I have attended. What I like about it is the simple fact that there are more uninhibited men to have fun with. That is the great thing about Cumunion, you don't need anything extra, no gimmicks, no games. Its all about cock. The only thing to make it better for me would be to have more slings and fuck benches. Take a couple rooms and add fuck benches for the event so all us hungry bottoms don't have to compete for places to offer up our holes. At Hawks I am constantly making the rounds to see if the fuck bench or one of the two slings is open. I prefer to put my ass out there for anyone to help themselves.

I've been to CumUnions in ATL, Augusta, and Dallas and the ones at Manifest in ATL have been by far the best. Why? Because they have a lot of competition and know that if guys like the event they're likely to come back and recommend it. The ones in Augusta and Dallas were OK but I didn't get the feeling of it being special or an "event". The key thing is you're showing an interest and want to make it a big deal. When was the last time you asked regular patrons what they would like to see or have added? Too often clubs take their patrons for granted and don't solicit feedback. Music is key to setting the mood; do you play any or not? Do you have water and other refreshments available? They don't cost much and guys would appreciate it.

and let's talk promotion and hype. How much are you promoting it and where? Tailor it to your audience on places like Barebackrt.com, Squirt, and elsewhere. It's not enough to put it on your website and leave it at that. Not every gay/bi guy knows what it is...give details and have a FAQ about what goes on. Add extra slings and places for fucking. And make sure to have more staff on for critical stuff like making sure the bathrooms are kept clean and that stuff doesn't get out of control.

The CumUnion I attend is in Indianapolis. It’s always been well-attended and I have personally always had a blast, but there have been a few points that I’ve heard grumbled about or that I’ve noticed.

Music: Definitely important for getting a vibe going. Yet one time I had a distinct what-the-bellbottomed-fuck moment when I had to endure The Captain and Tenniel singing “Muskrat Love” while I was trying to get poppered up.

Another patron discovered the DJ station set up just outside the door to his room - not a good choice that time.

Activities: I don’t think it would be a bad idea to have a party host or two on duty simply to mingle about and make sure everyone is actively enjoying the party. If I recall there were a couple of “contests” of some sort, but, I mean, anybody up for a game of naked Twister? Having somebody to finagle two bottoms into the same room as a handful of Tops could work wonders.

Some activities may be less conducive to what most are there for - take the drawings, for example. If the music is interrupted every so often with the news that ticket no. so-and-such just won the Xtra-large jar of Boy Butter, I probably am not going to ask the Top to stop fucking me long enough to check my ticket.

Amenities: If you’re going to offer limited facilities like slings or fuck benches, it’s especially important for staff to monitor those amenities during the party to ensure that the sling lizards and bench slugs don’t spoil the party for everyone else.

Be sure to check restrooms frequently. Some guys haven’t yet mastered the art of cleaning out. I will say no more.

Safety: I come from a public service background, so I tend to notice hazards. There are some things I think any CumUnion venue could and probably should do to head off problems. For instance:

• Post a visible notice warning men that using poppers and viagra together can be deadly.

• Ensure that steam room temperatures do not exceed safe limits; that steam rooms always have adequate lighting; and that egress from the back of the steam room is never blocked. I have observed failures of all these conditions at various steam rooms, and it is a miracle no one has been seriously harmed.

• Ensure that the sling and/or other public equipment has been safety-checked and serviced before the party starts. I make it my business to do this at my CumUnion, because that’s what a well-trained bondage sub does, but you can’t count on that everywhere.

• Be alert for lube-slicked floors. I don’t know what it is about Tops and silicone-based lube, but I’ve had to stop leaving it out for them because one of them, without fail, will spill enough of it to turn the floor of my room into a skating-rink-deathtrap. At least have cleaning supplies ready to hand that will clean up the range of lubes.

Darkroom: Figure out a way to convert at least one room into a communal darkroom space. We can do without all that video porn for three hours if necessary.

 

I may think of more, but that’s what I’ve got to be getting on with...

I think it will vary greatly by city.  As much as I would love to have them be able to duplicate the dog pile orgies I've enjoyed in public play spaces in LA and Denver, I don't think there would be any way to encourage the same kind of scene here in the Pacific Northwest.  In fact I think it would scare most of the attendees from ever attending another one.  We have had a couple here in Portland that were moderately hot with activity, then Hawks was mostly empty for weeks afterward.

The one in New York is not materially different from other gay sex events at the same venue, although it occasionally has a larger crowd. It seems that everyone in New York that attends sex parties is either on PrEP or Poz. It’s rare to see a condom here, even if it’s not a specifically bareback party. There’s obviously a lot of fucking, but not particularly crazy. I think it’s because New Yorkers tend to be very picky and Cumunion has an open door policy that attracts a mixed crowd.

I agree on a proper darkroom with no video screens. 

Would also ban phones - for three reasons - it's one of the top items people lose in a venue like this (even if you ban them) - some guys use the light to light up the darkroom to scope it out - and others will take photos/video without permission. 

The sling lizard problem - I wonder how long it will be before you have to buy a ticket to reserve a time slot on a sling? Actually that's not such a bad idea, is it?

Went to one Cumunion when it was in a pub in South London.  It was OK but places like SBN and the Vault are a whole lot better. Which might explain why there is now no Cumunion in London.  Imagine that!

Re the sling problem... bottoms seemed to jump in and out of the slings at the bio parties in Barelin the times that I was there... same in London at SBN.. and in Hamburg at the sunday S.L.U.T. parties..

Seems like some of these CumUnion parties are a bit B grade.

I've found the same. Went to Cumunion London a couple of times when there was one in London, but do better in other venues. Really missing XXL as always did well there, shame it closed as developers wanted the land. So many places closing for this reason and not just covid.

If I wanted to attend something like that it would involve about 4 to 5 hours travel by car or train, my current city has a single gay bar, our capital city basically forced it’s only gay sauna out by gentrifying the area and the only other gay sauna here in South Wales has taken to having mixed nights for gay, straight and bi (including male and female couples) a couple of nights a week (including Saturday which was its busiest night). None of the gay bars or clubs left here in South Wales are permitted to have “adult interactions” or they risk being fined and closed down (even before COVID).

I'm FOR traveling to other cities for Cumunion. Montreal's Gi Joe Cumunion is worth the flight/drive! I've written about my experiences there. Just don't always stay at home for local cock and cum!
