The biggest problem I have with the hookup sites locally is that they are all quickly taken over by guys looking for a relationship, and not a NSA hookup. Which makes them almost completely useless.

Actually that is true for in person cruising, even at the bathhouse it seems like a majority are looking for permanent boyfriend.

Totally. I had a couple good hookups through Scruff when I was getting divorced a few years ago, but I had to wade through a million long conversations to get there. Interesting comments about your successes on Sniffies.  Here in South Florida, I find the crowd very strange and more often than not Ive seen guys change their stats and pics where it seems on the surface they are a different person when they are not.  Mind fuckers!

I'm yet to actually hookup with anyone from Sniffies. Most of the guys here in Portland are only interested in the video chat option. No one has to touch anyone else's cock or worry about someone touching theirs in video chat.

What tends to annoy me about Sniffies is that there are too many lurkers without a picture, indicate they want to hookup, and act like they've never heard the word "no" if you aren't interested. It's not a sales pitch!

Relatively new here on BZ, but love reading comments from others.  Wish I knew about this site years ago.  Recon, BBRT, & squirt is useless for me.  Grindr has been very successful for me.  Found a Top in my apartment complex who I have never seem before since we live on opposite sides on a large complex (multi buildings).  He's an older Alpha male type and knows how I love being fucked.  In the last few weeks we have hooked up 3 times per week and even shared me with another Top who's hookup 2 since that day.

In my 30s, I was on as many sites as possible. Where I lived back then produced this kind of environment and behaviour. EVERYONE ELSE in the city was doing the same thing, and trying to cast wider nets. I started out with Men4SexNow, but once I had my fuckbuddies, I dropped it. Met my (now) ex on A4A, and had a couple interesting dates from others. In recent years, it became a place for Russian bots trying to scam me by getting me invested and suddenly needing money for one crisis or another. I got tired of it. Manhunt yielded nothing, too many drugs and unhealthy behaviours on NKP, and Grindr was laughably bad and full of guys who didn't reply to messages. I've been on Recon for a long time, and it yielded some good results, but nothing that recent. I joined bbrt a few months back at the suggestion of my ex, but I haven't had a single hookup from it. 

I think being a porn guy has made me picky, but the other part is this: most gay men are pricks. No follow-through, lies of all sorts, a string of bad life choices, and poor sex skills. I stopped trying.

I wonder if hookup apps are really the cause of our public spaces closing? Based on two pages of replies, none of them are any good with a few exceptions based on geography. People are preferring to meet in person once again? Hmm.

I've had varying degrees of success from the apps. Just when I'm about to write one off, some hot fuck comes through and I stick with them a while longer.  Fo the most part, though, they aren't that reliable.  I DID have one day on sniffies when all of the planets aligned.  I was free and looking, so I logged on. I got a hit from a guy looking to nut in a hole (perfect match). Went to his place. He pumped his load into me and then I bounced. Was getting in the car and brought up the site. A guy pinged me from next door and he bred me too. I didn't even have to move the car!  That is by far the exception tho.  I'm lucky to get an actual hook up through any of the apps. Used to have bbrt, but he cancelled my account because I mentioned I was going to Horsemarket. He scours your chat messages and compares pics to make sure you don't create a new account.  It's a bit too big-brother for me, so I'm here and on telegram and sniffies and nastykinkpigs, asspig and doublelist. Recon never did much for me, either.

If we could just get them to stop acting like they do on the apps when they are cruising in person, we would have it made. From traveling fairly extensively, my experience is that how a local area behaves on the apps is very similar (but more extreme) to how they act in in person cruising.

Grindr sometimes works, but you have to wade through so many fake pics, attention seekers, and timewasters. I don't think the design of the app is good, it also promotes just blocking people ASAP if they aren't 100% what you are looking for which is why I think it has been found to have such a bad effect on so many guys' mental health.
Scruff I have had very limited interactions on, seems mostly dead round here.
BBRT is the best site in my view for guys who are up for it (and who are into bareback obviously) but it only works in big cities. It's a paradise in London., but very slim pickings here in Dublin sadly....
