  1. The primary reason reactions are limited and grow as your membership level goes up is so newbies don't distort what's good/bad. If it were unlimited reactions for everyone then a person's status wouldn't mean much because a one or two people could just upvote everything they've ever posted and give the poster a high status. Ultimately this is a community and how important you are to the community depends on how much you've contributed to the community. So people who've contributed a lot get to be the primary arbiters of what's good and bad on the site.
  2. Or they could look like something innocuous like a small pimple or ingrown hair.
  3. But it's FAR less likely and the outcomes are far less severe. Vaccines save lives and in the case of MPX they save people from a buttload of pain. You are flat out wrong. The number of required shots did not change when they went to 1/5th dose administered right under the skin rather than into the fat layer. A study showed that the two methods yielded the same immune response. And the 5 dose vaccine from 50 years ago was a completely different vaccine than what's currently being administered. In fact it's 2 generations removed from that vaccine. The vaccine from 50 years ago required 5 shots (over many years). The current vaccine requires 2 shots.
  4. I'm not sure when it will go down exactly, but don't be concerned if you can't get to the site or if the site looks messed up. The drive that has all the static files is getting upgraded to a bigger drive. The downtime shouldn't be more than 15 or 20 minutes.
  5. Most gay men should get both the Hep A & Hep B vaccine. If you ever do rimming or ass-to-mouth you need the Hep A vaccine. They were right to push it. (Though I don't know why they were asking for insurance info.)
  6. First off, Smallpox vaccines were a series of 5 shots. Many of us only got one or two of them. To pretend one shot 50 years ago will protect you is just silly. Doctors should be challenged when they make ignorant statements like that. I'd probably say "so can I sue you for pain and suffering when I get MPX after following your advice?" And your logic on COVID makes zero sense. You say the vaccine protects the person, but they can still infect others then say the vaccine checks at venues make no sense since they can still infect others. But if everyone in the venue is vaccinated (which you call protected), then how are they going to get infected? The point of the vaccine checks was two fold: 1) to keep vulnerable, unvaccinated people from putting themselves in dangerous situations, and 2) to strongly encourage vaccination. It achieved both of those goals. The fatality rate is 0.1% when you're vaxxed and boosted. It's 1.71% when you're unvaccinated. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-to-compare-covid-deaths-for-vaccinated-and-unvaccinated-people/ If no one was vaccinated and no one social distanced and every one got COVID eventually, then it would mean 5.6 million people in the US would die. Right now only 1.05 million have died. A million is far too high a number. But it sounds like you're advocating for something that would kill an additional 4 1/2 million people. Advocating policies that lead to mass death is not allowed on this site. Be very careful what you say in the future or you will get an infraction and a ban for advocating harm to real people.
  7. I think "maximum immunity" would be better phrase than "full immunity". I think at its best it's only 85% effective. But if enough guys get it, then there's herd immunity… [To be honest, I'm not sure they've tested the vaccine enough to have a definitive percent efficacy. They didn't have an outbreak to test against until now.]
  8. Maybe read up before passing judgement. I did NOT say it was better to wait 2 years. I said there's no difference in efficacy if you get the 2nd shot before the 2 year mark. The US studies that authorized use only looked at 28 day timing for the 2nd shot. But other studies have been done and the CEO of the manufacturer is well-acquainted with those studies. The CDC/FDA doesn't believe it unless they do the study themselves. It's a failing of the CDC/FDA. And I didn't give medical advice. I quoted medical authorities. HUGE difference.
  9. From what I read the moment they bring it to the US the clock starts ticking on the expiration date. But their agreement with the manufacturer is if they store it in Denmark then the clock doesn't start. So it's much more cost effective to have it stored in Denmark given that the chances of a smallpox/monkeypox outbreak were very low. There are aspects of what the government did that can be criticized, but that's not one of them.
  10. So you haven't gotten your first shot yet despite the fact that they're now allowing walk-ins? If you got your first shot today, you could get your second shot November 11. So your saying "end of November" means you weren't planning on getting your first shot until about 2 weeks from now. Why are you putting it off? And I know some conservatives like to label everything they don't like "porn" or "socialism" but waiting 10 weeks isn't actually a problem - in fact it may be better. For starters, as I posted in a response above, you can get the 2nd shot any time in the first two years and have pretty much the same level of protection. That's according to the CEO of the company that makes the vaccine - and he's also a virologist. So who gives a shit when you get the 2nd shot? I mean you're complaining about something that's not really a problem. Second, places that made people wait longer periods for their 2nd COVID shot saw better, not worse, immune responses. There's every possibility that the same could be true of MPX (though I can't point to any study to prove it). NYC has been pretty smart about their rollout of the vaccine. We have one of the best health systems in the country, if not the world. On this particular topic you don't know better than they do. They're not putting your health at risk. I'm eligible for my 2nd dose in 9 days. The time passes pretty quickly.
  11. Not sure your age, but I was alive and paying attention back when this was happening. Here's a historical run down of Clinton and gay issues. Bottom line he was promoting gay rights during his campaign - which was radical for the time. There were two things that really caused him problems the first year of his presidency - 1) his support of gay rights and 2) Hillary's attempts to get the ball moving on universal healthcare. The Clintons understand that politics is about compromise (unlike Bernie who has accomplished almost nothing because with him it's all or nothing). So when Clinton couldn't get the full recognition of gays in the military he settled for Don't Ask, Don't Tell. It was still a step forward. There are some battles where you take what you can and fight another day. DOMA was one of those battles. To say Democrats or Clinton didn't support gay rights when they were at the forefront of the battle (in terms of mainstream politics of their time) is just ignorant. That's not how it happened. ^^^ THIS ^^^ is brilliant! Civil rights should never be voted on. It's always the place of the courts to point that out and change things. I'd add that I think the Jewish religion has it right on abortion issues. They believe life begins when you take your first breath and ends when you take your last breath. Which means the fetus is part of the woman until it's born. And being part of the woman - it's her body which she can do with as she wants. [BTW - I happen to disagree with the Jews on the life ends when you take your last breath bit. I think brain death is when you die, but that's the topic for another day.]
  12. As @Sfmike64 mentioned, ramping up vaccine production isn't simple. One of the reasons why we don't have vaccines is because the manufacturer started making them in a new plant and the US didn't inspect and approve the production at the plant quickly enough. So there are millions (?) of doses that we've purchased that are just sitting in a warehouse. As soon as we approve the production from that plant they can be shipped to the US. It's a huge failure on the part of the Biden administration, but at the same time we want safeguards like that to be in place. I think they're also talking about licensing the process of creating the vaccine to US drug/vaccine manufacturers in case it becomes a wider problem and the manufacturer can't produce as many doses as we need. But nothing about that is simple either.
  13. Done. I also deleted a bunch of other old stuff (e.g. Jabber user name) and added Telegram User Name since a lot of guys are on there. That said, Telegram links are still verboten since everyone posting them in the past seemed to be into kiddie porn (!)
  14. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the 1/5 intradermal produced a better immune response than the full shot into fat. It's just there's slightly more risk of minor side effects. That said, it's based on a single study. Let's just hope the study authors did their work properly.
  15. Here's a pre-print study on breakthrough infections (cases where the vaccine failed to work)… https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.08.03.22278233v1.full.pdf It should be noted that the vaccine was given to people ~11 days on average AFTER confirmed close contact with an infected person (confirmed by PCR). So they're not talking about the average slut who gets his MPX vaccine, waits two weeks, and then goes to the bathhouse. They studied 274 people and 12 (4%) had breakthrough infections, but most (10) were within 5 days of receiving the vaccine. Two (1%) had infections further out - (22, 25 days). Curiously the two who were past 5 days both had pets and the 10 who got it earlier didn't have pets. Again, this does not speak to the efficacy of the vaccine in the manner most of you are using or depending on it. It's just interesting data…
  16. I think his quote was "We don't live in fear" at which point I was thinking "yeah, but people in your state are going to be living in pain…" And his surgeon general was trying to boo hoo the vaccine saying it hasn't been tested enough on people. This is why I live in a deep blue state. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to live in a red state.
  17. So… MEA CULPA… The article that I started this thread with is FAKE NEWS! Apparently guy in the pic has neurofibromatosis, not monkeypox. Reddit has banned the story. Below is the bit that I said in a post above that was wrong… That said, based on what people are saying here some health authorities and doctors are giving out misinformation or inadequate information, so it's not like it isn't an issue.
  18. This is a false statement. Evidence is here… https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22270271/ When you see a demonstrably false statement or conspiracy theory posted here, please report the post and an infraction will be given to the member (as I've done with TotalTop).
  19. All it takes is one closeted pastor, like Ted Haggard, going for a discreet weekend of fun and then coming back and "ministering" to the boys in his church and then they go and make out with their girlfriend…
  20. MPX deaths There are now four MPX death deaths outside of Africa… https://apple.news/AzHTxcszNTX64HgjpebLRGw The first one in Brazil sounds like there were a lot of underlying conditions. But this last one in India sounds more serious - 22 years old with no external lesions. Vaccines The vaccine shortage in the US looks like it's gonna go on for months… https://apple.news/AxgmmAkMsQ0mvyvwRCIsDMQ So work hard to get your vaccine now, before they run out. And PLEASE delay your 2nd shot until after everyone has had their 1st shot. They're also discussing giving people the older vaccine that has a lot more side effects. Monkeypox's name There's been a push to rename Monkeypox. Turns out that's complicated. The virus itself will probably continue to be known as Monkeypox, but the illness looks like it may get a new name at some point. One of the suggestions is hMPXV for human Monkeypox Virus. The problem with that is that I've already seen the clinic near me using MPXV for Monkeypox vaccine. But it sounds like it'll take a while for the renaming to happen. https://apple.news/AIBKMdYvaTnSvdT4OSQJQCw (EDIT: the following bit is apparently fake news) People not isolating A doctor spotted a guy on the Madrid Metro with a pretty severe case of MPX. He approached the guy and asked why he wasn't isolating and the guy said his doctor just told him to wear a mask. Meanwhile there are visible sores all over uncovered parts his body and contact with sores is the easiest way to get MPX while respiratory droplets that the mask would stop are actually an unlikely route of transmission. To make things worse, the woman who was near him said she wasn't worried because she's not gay. https://apple.news/AtB59iR0kRD68IV34DrC5oA So it looks like the word is not getting out about how to protect yourself or others.
  21. Yup… Besides Silver Steele, which @EuroMusk76 detailed, here are a few more… This tweet from HungerFF doesn't mention vaccination, but after looking at the pics IMHO it should make people want to get vaccinated… I've also seen guys mention they got vaccinated - which acknowledges the problem and makes it clear that vaccination is good. There's a lot of example - but I can't put my finger on them right this very moment.
  22. Hypothesizing… All the sex parties shut down (voluntarily). Guys know friend (or friends of friends) who got it and are going through long painful illnesses. Guys are seeing OF/JFF models describe what they're going through and urging them to get vaccinated. More guys are getting vaccinated. Most guys are just cutting back on sex generally. The guys who aren't cutting back are getting it and in too much pain to have sex. The other (less optimistic) reason might be that the 9.4% represented a getting through a backlog of tests (it was around the time additional labs were allowed to do the test). If that's the case then the percentage that week might be artificially high and it may not actually be going down.
  23. Good news, kinda… The rate of increase for MPX cases in NYC is going down. Last week it averaged a 6.6% increase each day. The week before it was 9.4%.
  24. There are now two deaths related to MPX outside of Africa - one reported Friday in Brazil and one reported today in Spain… https://apple.news/ADR32bQIwRVuQ-VLGp8h5Fg Another interesting detail in that story - in Spain 3.2% of the known cases require hospitalization.
  25. Since Smallpox and MPX are both orthopoxviruses and the vaccines were/are actually general vaccines against orthopoxviruses - then yes, the current vaccine will act as a booster for any vaccines you got as a kid. Smallpox was wiped out because there was enough herd immunity. But I'm not aware of any studies that say how much immunity a particular person has if they only got 1 or 2 shots 50 years ago. It's an unknown. And when a medical provider asks if you got "it" as a kid - that's the wrong way to put it when "it" wasn't a single thing - it was 4 shots - and it's wrong to assume 1 shot is as effective as 4 shots 50 years later. The problem is lack of data. Smallpox isn't around anymore, and Monkeypox has only affected relatively small numbers of people in countries that the rest of the world doesn't pay attention to. If we had data we'd know what to do right now, but we don't have the data since no one studied it properly in Africa. Which makes the point that it pays to deal with other people's problems. If the world had dealt with MPX when it was "just an African problem" then it wouldn't be a problem now. And if the world doesn't deal with it when it's "just a gay problem" then they'll have to deal with it when it gets into the general population (via school kids or prisons, or whatever)…
