I am poz, I have been for almost twenty years. I started taking meds 2-3 years after the diagnosis. I have been fortunate, there have been no illnesses nor other problems. The only way it has affected me is in my being cautious of who I fuck. I make sure they know what they are getting into. I don't use drugs, smoke, or drink a lot. I do not exercise like my doctor says I should. In general my health is as good as it was before I turned poz. For me being poz is about managing a condition. It takes some time, but it does not detract from the rest of my life. Being poz does not define me. Being the man I am and my character defines me.
