    There were so many great movie theaters?sex dens in NY back in the seventies. Besides the Adonis there was the David, the Eros, the Show Palace, the Gaiety (Mostly for the hustler/strippers that one) the Cinema Follies, and quite a few more. They were centered in Midtown but they were also in Queens and Brooklyn. They were an outgrowth of the action that used to take place in the balconies and dark corners of the burlesque houses in the early part of the 20th century and then the straight porn movie theaters which started appearing again in the sixties. They were a liberated form of those with much more of an anything goes attitude.

    Well, I am very old ?I remember the hanky cold well. Flagged blue, yellow, grey and light blue on the right and kelly green (and red) on the left in years gone by. (that too eventually switched to the right.) Now its been quite a while since I flagged any hankies. You may actually be correct about the navy blue with black stripes for bareback. It sounds familiar and also an almost impossible pattern to find. (I did find a navy blue with white polka dots but as suggested by someone above found that wearing a Treasure Island Media or Meat Packer tee shirt served me better.)

    There was an attempt at a barebacking hankie navy blue with white polka dots but it never caught on, possibly because use of the hankie code was rare by the time it was attempted and also because that pattern was very difficult to find in a hankie. I believe there was another attempt also on Bareback jack but I don't remember what that one was.

    Yes, it was quite decadent and at the same time quite friendly. It was never a stand and pose type bar. I don't really know of any place like it now.
