    The realization that I was “different,” occurred when in first or second grade, I was standing in the middle of a group of naked boys, while waiting for our PE coach to come and unlock the door to the swimming pool at school. I noticed a scent, and I knew it was from the boys around me. Mixed with that scent, was the smell of the chlorinated water in the pool. To this day, the smell of a chlorinated pool or bleach takes me back to that moment.
