    • No age of consent - just stiffen penalties for rape if victim is under 18

but for you that started young

If 18 is young, then I guess you're correct, since it was a fraternity brother that brought me out when I went away to school. Prior to that, I had never so much as touched another guy with any kind of "warmth".  More, I never went back to that paragon-of- repression of a city I grew up in, other than moms/dads birthdays, mothers/fathers day, and occasional "day-visits".

As far as I recall, no other guy ever touched me "in that way" either.

I started at 14 and yes, I feel like I was sexually assaulted by the older guys I had sex with.  I went after them not for sex, but for the emotional support that I wasn't getting at home.  I allowed myself to be manipulated by them.  I still associate trading sex for love even today.  Yes, I know that not everyone who had similar experiences feels the same way, but this is how I feel.  Both of my molesters were eventually arrested and spent time in jail.  Thank goodness I had the sense to not let them take pictures of me or else I would have been a witness in their trials.  In a small town, that wouldn't have been a good thing.

A 14 year old cannot consent to have sex with an adult.  A 12 year old certainly can't.  A 12 year is just coming into their sexuality.  I knew I gay when I was six but I didn't know anything about sex.  I barely knew anything about it was I started having sex.  If teenagers want to have sex, that's fine, but keep it among your peers.

This whole discussion creeps me out.  With the whole groomer thing going on, I can't imagine what would happen if someone got ahold of this and broadcast it to the world.  I really don't think I'm being judgmental.  Maybe others do, but I'm coming at this from personal experience.

I pretty much agree with you.  I don't think youngsters should be punished for exploration -- BUT...  I am really uncomfortable with adults taking advantage and manipulating or forcing or "grooming" or whatever.  I never was abused, but I know quite a few, especially ladies that were when they were minors.  And that's not OK.  Some of them, even men, bear emotional scars for life because of abuse.  And as I mentioned before, sex trafficking is a big problem here in Texas and is often apologized for by even people who usually claim to be on the side of protecting people...  "because it is the culture where they came from".  Well, It isn't here.  So, no, it isn't acceptable.  Children should be protected.  Sorry if some people don't like that.  But that's how I feel about it.  Personally even if a minor tried to initiate something with me, the answer would have to be no.  I've had a few of my relatives who were busted for crimes involving minors or images of minors and it is not a line I am willing to consider crossing.  Frankly, I also agree with another of your points -- as far as protecting this community, something that is illegal and could bring down attention and scrutiny that none of us need, any actions relating to minors should be avoided.  Last thing we need is some sensationalist journalist or cancel culture people coming after us.

I support keeping it at 18

but I also support what are sometimes called Romeo and Juliet laws - so that if one partner is over 18, but not more than two years older than the other- that that would be ok

so if you are a HS senior (and over 18) but your date is only 17, or even 16 - you can still have fun after prom…. ( or when you come home for Christmas break freshman year of college)

lets face it - kids fuck - so let’s make it as safe for them as possible by not making them have to sneak around any more than they normally do, but 40 year olds should not be fucking around with HS kids

I can live with what you are talking about.  The thing that sucks is that a few abusers ruin things for everyone else.  But there doesn't seem to be a good way to write laws that only affect the few bad people and let everyone else do what they want.  It's just hard to tell who is legit and who is just a creep that is taking advantage and ruining kids' lives.

I knew I was a submissive cumdump from like day one so I was ready to suck cock from before I even knew what it was and was fantasizing about getting gangbanged by men long before I could cum. I would have been a fun project for a groomer. lol also I once met another t-girl whore that had started sucking cock so early that she couldn’t remember a time when sh didnt suck cock and swallow. She did remember getting fucked several years before I started getting fucked which was still several years “too” early but, like me she absolutely loved guys and cock and cum and could never get enough. but we did realize we were total unicorns and most boys aren’t ready for cock and cum until they are already shooting their own loads. and if it was really low, shitty people would be exploiting boys so I would say 12

I feel like most people here are kind of missing the point of why age of consent laws exist. Yes, we can discuss when a person could consent, and I think we all agree that it's different for everyone, but age of consent laws do not reflect that nor are they supposed to. Age of consent laws exist not as a judgement of "over this age you are sexually mature" but as a general marker of liability. By setting the age at (what the majority of the developed world sets it, for example) 16, legislatures aren't saying "people become sexually mature at 16", they're saying "an adult fucking someone younger than 16 is most likely to be abuse than not". And that's kind of correct. That's why most age of consent laws do not criminalize intercourse between people below that age, two 14 year olds having sex with each other is most likely not abuse but experimentation.

Even if you believe you personally sexually matured earlier than that -- as do I since I believe that was 13/14 for me -- and that any sexual advances you could've made at that age were consensual and informed, you have to admit that we're the exception rather than the rule. Most teenagers below that age don't have full agency over themselves, and obviously infants don't either. So to make it much easier to prosecute abuse, makes sense for a gov to follow that age of consent as a guideline.

for me i knew i wanted it at a younger age but thats just me as i am now id mainly date or have sex with someone older than no one under 18 but still if i had the choice when i first had sex id have wished the age of consent was lower. but thats just my younger self. before i grew up. i do believe some people mature faster than others but i also believe that you're not mature until you know what it's like to have to work or clean or other things. i could go on and on about it but still my opinion doesnt matter to everyone. i cant change the world even though i wish i could

Sure there is - but as a society, we just don't do it anymore*.  It used to be called Capital Punishment.  It's what the crazed mob tried to do to Pence one year ago, if they could find him.  As we all have seen over and over again, they even brought the gallows with them.  Obviously, it implies catching what you're calling the "few bad people", prosecution in court, and passing sentence, and carrying it out.

*or, to be more clear, some of us don't do it anymore.  These past couple of years though, it seems that more and more Americans - perhaps in their hundreds of thousands now - seem to think it's ok.  Given the glut of guns of every kind and description on almost every streetcorner these days, maybe the new Congress will reinstate that infamous old policy - we could even name it Kevin's Law !!

btw - does anyone know who that black-haired little queen that seems to be attached to McCarthy at-the-hip is?  It seems that every single shot of the recent endless votes in the House that include McCarthy also include this guy.  Sitting next to K.M, standing next to him, following him around like an adoring little shadow-boy.

A couple of thoughts:

There is no way to enforce any "age-of-consent" laws in the spirit they have been conceived.  These laws, hardly uniform, exist only for punitive purposes, once some event is reported to the authorities.  I don't believe it's possible for every parent to "protect" the little darlings 24/7 anyway, so I don't think tinkering with the existing laws will offer much in the way of amelioration to whatever these laws are intended to ameliorate.  However, if there were some way to actually protect children from predatory behavior, I'd be all for it.  Meaning, prevent that from happening in the first place.  Bothering little kids, as yet unaware of any sexual thoughts, is criminal by any definition.  If this were even possible though, smarter folks than me would have already figured out how to do it.

If a kid can get a drivers license at 16, he can officially start to fuck too.  He's gonna anyway, so save the CockCops for more important things.  My vote goes for No Age Restriction, only serious punishment for inappropriate predatory behavior.

Fairly sound logic here, actually.

Addendum: the definition o# predatory needs to include the child bride grooming that the evangelical nutbars seem to love so much.

I don't think you're being judgmental, but it is a difficult subject.

First, most groomers are straight authoritarian guys like Matt walsh. In my experience actual interest in sex with underage people is vanishingly rare in the queer community.

However, the shared experience is having grown up with no great way of learning queer sexuality...other than from someone older. Every damn movie and novel tells straight people how to do it. We don't have much for media, except porn, where we're objectified. I absolutely understand the desire for younger generations of queer people to be less alone than we were. However, I don't really think age of consent laws are the way to go about this. It's more about broader social acceptance and media representation, both of which are starting to happen.

For sure!  The Warren Jeffs of the world need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.  Absolute horrible abuser.  And if anything worse because of trying to claim he was doing it for religious reasons.

I started at 7 sucking cock and 10 being bred and don't regret it at all, but I'd say it's a case by case basis on if you're ready. If it's with someone around your own age, or especially if it's with a close adult that cares about you and will be loving and gentle i think any age is acceptable and may even be beneficial to start at a young age if they're comfortable.

I feel like I have told my story many times on here but I started young with my step dad. I was 10 but didn’t have full on intercourse until I was 13. It was my choice and I feel in retrospect I was the driver in our relationship. I feel that it’s everyone’s personal choice when they are ready. At 10 I knew I wanted to be with men but really didn’t know what sex was. At 13 I knew and was ready. It’s a personal choice.

I have taken the time to read through these comments and I feel that maybe this isn’t the group to discuss as someone suggested. My experience was way different than others. I am not sure that being sexualized at a young age is good. The advantages for me were that I was way ahead of other boys my age when it came to sex and relationships. I was in a loving relationship so I always was comfortable and safe. I never took on more than I was ready for. I started with playing and touching and then sucking then intercourse. All on my time line. Some of these stories are rape and abuse. I still think it’s all individual in when you are ready but because kids have to be protected 18 is probably the best age of consent. When I went to college at 17 and started to hook up with guys my own age it was an awakening as to the levels of sexual maturity. I found that most my age didn’t match up with me. I ended up hooking up with 40 and 50 year olds.
