Here's another thought…

If it's super painful, and especially painful to the touch, then how do guys with MPX transmit it sexually? Wouldn't sex be super painful? OK, maybe the first day or two when the lesions are small they could have sex. But that doesn't explain the huge levels of transmission that we're seeing.

There's a period where people get a rash that they might not even notice.  They are contagious at that point, well before the development of vesicles.  Some people only get the rash.

At the beginning of May, just when we were starting to hear about the first cases of MPX, I had a strange blister on the back of my hand. It didn’t look anything like the horrific pictures of MPX circulating in the sensationalist press at the time, and I thought nothing of it- it didn’t hurt and after a couple of days it scabbed over and went away.  But more recently, I’ve seen pictures of single-lesion MPX on the back of the hand that look exactly like what I had.

Was it monkeypox? I’ll never know for sure, but I suspect it was.  I’m old enough to have had at least one smallpox jab when I was a child, so maybe that’s why it was so mild. I’m sure there are thousands of cases like mine- and that’s why transmission is probably so widespread… guys just don’t even know they’ve got it. If that blister had been on my anus or in my arse, I would never have known at all.

For every case that’s serious enough to get reported, I’m convinced that there are many, many more that don’t.  But without random testing, it’s impossible to gauge the scale of this.

I'm sort of wondering the same thing. I have a "pimple" on my right temple that looked like C and progressed to D in the diagram above. I too am old enough to have been vaccinated for smallpox as an infant. I was at orgies in LA and Palm Springs 3 and a half weeks ago so I definitely had opportunity, the "pimple" appeared about 10 days after I got home and I haven't had any other symptoms. Luckily if it was monkeypox I stopped hooking up several days before it showed up, so I feel confident I didn't infect anyone if it was.

I actually know someone who used to live here in Palm Springs who has been posting pictures of a fairly serious face outbreak on Twitter, but did not hookup with or even see him while I was there.

This is the current state of the "pimple"

According to one of the two local gay newspapers, DC Public Health has decided to postpone second shots in order to accommodate the backload of requests for first shots. Their stance is that the first shot provides immunity for six months— not the 2 years that I have seen here, but I think it buys some time to help tamp down this epidemic. DC requires proof of residence, though, so it won’t eliminate it entirely in this area unless Maryland and Virginia step up their vaccination efforts, or DC loosens their requirements to allow residents from neighboring jurisdictions to get shots.

i have not gotten notification that my second shot, scheduled for next Tuesday has been postponed, but if they don’t contact me by the end of the week I will call and confirm this.

From the sounds of it, the US will start getting a lot more doses this fall and early next year. So 6 months might be enough of a delay, though it might need to be 9 months.

Personally I trust 1) the company that makes it, and 2) Canadian health authorities more than I trust US health authorities. The Canadians just made smarter choices when it came to COVID (at least medical decisions - their contracts to actually get the vaccine were seriously flawed).

Just had this interaction on Twitter…

IMG_8163.jpeg

Can someone please explain to me how the guy's logic makes any sense?

  • He says he's had MPX for 13 days (which is a remarkably short time)
  • He says days 1-3 were body aches and fever (that's believable - but probably not for minor case)
  • That means days 4-13 he was symptomatic (10 days of having lesions). All the health authority websites say the lesions last for at least 14 days - and you're infectious for another week after that while the skin grows back over the site of the lesion.
  • 4 days ago (day 9, 6 days into having lesions) he tweeted "Poz ass here looking for loads tonite". How can you be 6 days into having anal lesions and want to get fucked? Any activity down there would be horribly painful with anal lesions.
  • He seems to be differentiating "skin lesions" from lesions on the skin inside your ass - fine, no problem I get what he's trying to say. But I would think lesions in your ass would take a longer time to heal than lesions on your body since it's a less hygienic location. You're not done and ready to go after 10 days.
  • And there's no mention of getting tested. Given that he's presumably in Florida where testing would be hard to come by, I'm 99% sure he doesn't have a positive test result.

Either way, takeaway #1 is that he believed himself to have anal MPX and he was trying to get tops to fuck him while he thought he was infectious. That's disturbing. And if he did have MPX he's still infectious.

I'm not sure what he had, but I'm almost certain it wasn't MPX. Last I knew he was poz and not on meds. So it could be his weakened immune system acting up and then causing an anal herpes outbreak (which typically goes away in a week).

The problem is now he's gonna think he's got antibodies to MPX. When (not if) he gets the real thing maybe then he'll finally understand what it means to have it.

In the meantime he's blocked me.

Perhaps a fair number of them are hard core drinkers and/or partiers who binge for multiple days at a time. If that was the case, they wouldn't have a clue what was fucking them  one weekend, then  7 or 9 days later they find someone who wants to have extended sessions and the guy gets spun again, as he is rashing up and unaware. By the end of a 2 or 3 day session, with however many other guys all twisted. Hell, by the tiime he is coming down, the sores are hurting like all hell, and the guy smokes some more to take the edge off, and the cycle continues

Now allow me to present a Monkeypox report from Kentucky.

I just returned from my regular visit with my HIV specialist, an epidemiologist at one of the principal infectious disease institutes in the Commonwealth, where I specifically asked her about Monkeypox. Prior to driving up for the appointment, I had read the official Kentucky government report on Monkeypox, which said Kentucky has had five confirmed cases, two of which have already recovered and been released from isolation.

My doctor was had heard of only three cases in Kentucky. She informed me that the institute, at a primary research hospital, could not even test a patient for Monkeypox, let alone diagnose it - the scraped suspected sample would have to be sent to the state capitol in Frankfort, the only place that could process the sample for testing.

I have no smallpox scar, but likely was vaccinated for it as an infant. The CDC recommends the Jyennos smallpox vaccine as a preventative against Monkeypox, and there is belief that prior smallpox vaccinations may offer some resistance. My epidemiologist, a competent professional, had never heard of any of this. She told me that they are getting no information -zero- handed coming down from government and national health agencies.

Currently, Kentucky state guidelines say that existing vaccine stocks are only for those who have had close contact with infected persons, and that they will evaluate other populations as more vaccine becomes available.

So: Not only can you not go to any health department in Kentucky and be tested for Monkeypox, no doctor in the state can absolutely diagnose you without sending a lab test to the capitol, if they even know what to look for. And even if you are diagnosed, it’s unclear that they’ll even know what to do about it, because they’re getting no guidance at all, and some the best epidemiologists in the state don’t even realize the smallpox vaccine may prevent it.

But that’s Kentucky in a nutshell, usually 25 fucking years behind the rest of the planet.

The only reason we aren’t covered up with Monkeypox right now is that we don’t have any monkeys - although some of the residents sometimes do a fair impression of lower primates. (If you don’t believe me, attend the Fancy Farm political picnic on Sunday.)

Another possibility is that the guy may be using certain classes of enhancements that either directly reduce pain sensitivity, or alter perception to the point that pain awareness is not significant. Maximum Impact, for example, was originally developed as an anesthetic, and its potency accounts for the danger of using it. Opioids, obviously, might also block perception of pain. The intoxicating, hypnotic, and euphoric effects of G could distract from pain during contact, and the variable effects of MDMA on neurotransmitter function can have an impact on pain threshold. In other words, a guy might not have to endure an entire weekend of pain bumping uglies with someone in order to transfer his pox - he might just need to be on the right drug for an hour.

I just received the first dose of the JYNNEOS monkeypox vaccine 🥰

Me too, just got it today. Second shot in 24 days

It's looking like those of that don't live in a hotbox of confirmed cases are going to get the vaccination any time soon. I am noticing at least a few parties getting canceled around the country. Which as much as I hate it,  I consider a good thing for the moment.

We just had this pop up for the first time in my area, but I've noticed a lot of guys locally already dialing back events and hookups.  Probably not a bad idea really.  This isn't coronavirus or the flu where it spreads extremely easily and cannot be stopped once it gets going; nor is it HIV which can present no symptoms for weeks to months to years, but still spread during that time.

And I'm sure I will sound like a jerk to some, but I don't care.  If everyone could exercise some self control for a couple of months, it would likely burn itself out.  We all have some responsibility to help beat this virus.

I'm like many here, want to fuck with as many guys as I can, as often as I can.  I've been to CumUnion multiple times in Houston and a few times in Dallas and San Antonio.  Since embracing my inner slut, I don't even know how many guys I've fucked with and how many loads I've taken, and nor do I care.  At the same time, I can live just fine with not whoring myself out 2-3 times a week for a month or two if it keeps monkeypox away and gives it one less avenue to spread to others.

There have actually been 5 deaths attributed to the current monkeypox outbreak in the West (and 70, likely an undercount, in Africa): - well actually this report is saying that the five deaths *WERE IN FACT* in African countries.  Perhaps I have been misreading ....

A guy I was with in Montreal mentioned that a week or two after his monkeypox inoculation, the inoculation site got hard and swelled up a bit and was a bit sore.  I'm one week in and haven't experienced anything (but usually don't have the reactions to inoculations that lots of people report).
