  1. You do understand that I'm only talking about restricting maybe 5% of the site, right? Please go back and read the first message in the thread. Only a small part of the site will be restricted. OK. That's the end of it. I'm done repeating myself. This discussion is over.
  2. That's like a drunk saying "hey, this is a free country - why can't I be all in your face and puke all over your shoes?" I want everyone to have a good experience here and be able to use all the various tools. It will be even safer since it will be less open to the general public who may find the whole notion rather shocking. I was just IMing with HungLatinDom. He's been traveling the past two weeks and now on the site so much. He totally gets what I'm saying - spend a few weeks off this site in the real world and then come back to the site. This site isn't anywhere close to "normal" or "mainstream". I'll let this discussion go on until sometime tomorrow mid-day then it will be over. I've pretty much made up my mind already. So far I haven't heard any compelling reason not to do what I'm planning.
  3. I explained it a bit above. But the issue is that the "What's New" Activity Stream and the "New Posts" links, which a lot of people use, mix everything together. It's difficult for people who want to avoid it to avoid it. To some people it's a bit like walking down a street and seeing someone urinating in a doorway. They think "do I really need to see that right now?" and they go somewhere else. I want them to stay - while still providing a place to piss for the people who want to do that... Saying you have to have so many posts before you see X, Y, Z, is one approach, but the problem is someone may be a great contributor and then get turned off... I want them to stay. But from a moderator's perspective we're constantly getting people who are high coming on the site and doing stuff that requires our intervention. I don't have the desire or energy to herd cats like that. But I've also heard from other people that the site is a bit too much about bug chasing. Even some comments here have been "oh, I thought that was the point of this site". No, that's the point of a couple sections of the site. Good memory. Right after I launched this site Bug Share was going down in flames. Oddly the member email list was sitting on that site in one big beautiful file, so I sent out an email to everyone on the list inviting them here. It was the mailing list that was available at the time, but my intention was always to be more than Bug Share - much more - which is why backroom discussions have always been limited to the backroom. But I think the important point is that the discussion will still be available. It just won't be as public.
  4. BTW, people who've contributed a lot to the site up to this point will get free access to any parts of the site they want. By "contributed a lot" that means about a hundred or more posts. Here's the current list of people who match that criteria... I say probably because I need to review the list with my moderators. If you've racked up a lot of infractions I may say 'no'. But if after 100+ posts you've had few or no infractions then it's pretty certain you'll get comped. Not sure if that makes anyone think differently about the policy...
  5. I'd start with whoever is on BBRT. Then add anyone on A4A that has "anything goes" in their profile, etc. That's a huge crowd and I'd say most of them don't want to see bug chasing discussion - they just want to fuck and swap loads. If they do drugs it's sporadic - not a lifestyle. I'm a little afraid this site has gotten too focused on bug chasing and chem sex. I want to provide a place for bug chasing discussion - I think that's really important. But honestly chem sex - never really liked that being around here. It has it's own section just because I didn't want it coming up in other parts of the site. And the chem sex crowd has NKPs they can go to as an alternative site. Honestly if I lost all the welfare-dependent meth addicts off the site it wouldn't bother me a bit. I don't want this site to be NKP. Do you know Just Us Boys? I want the bareback version of that site... JUB is way more vanilla than this site will ever be just 'cause genuine barebacking is raunchy sex. But honestly I want a site that presents a mentally healthy approach to raw sex. Where guys can come to terms with the risk they're taking and then dive in with both feet and enjoy themselves and make the most of their sex lives without needing meth to do it. Make sense?
  6. It's a transition period. Many barebackers go through it. But during this time you might also decide it's just not worth the risk. The problem is, it turns you on and you wank off to it. That's not going to go away and you'll desire it more and more in part because you don't let yourself experience it. Barebacking is sort of a one way street - but it's up to you to decide how slowly or quickly you go down the street.
  7. Yes, mailing a check will be just fine. I'll edit my original post to reflect that. The problem is the home page (Activity List) and the "New Posts" page show everything the person is permissioned for and even the titles of the threads are too over the top for some people. Actually Internet neutrality has nothing to do with this. Internet neutrality is whether Time Warner (my internet service provider) has the right to make it difficult for me to get content from Netflix and Hulu (their direct competitors). I'm not really understanding your objection. Even now you can't discuss certain topics in the public parts of the site. This is just a bit more restrictive.
  8. One other thing I should mention is that I'm not completely living by the poll results. The discussion is far more important to me. The problem with the poll is that the people who would most like the changes have been driven away from the site by seeing things they didn't like. So of course "don't like" will rule the day. The people that are here like the status quo. Now that I've thought about that, I'm going to change the poll so I can differentiate between simply don't like and don't like so much that they'll leave and now come back...
  9. I have no clue how this is related to the changes I'm talking about. I'm somewhat limited by the capabilities of the forum software (vBulletin). It's great, but it's got limitations and I have to work around them. Messing with the basics of vBulletin is messy and expensive. I'd rather add on than change.
  10. I've actually struggled to find a good analogy and haven't come up with one yet. But if you don't know the guy's last name, and possibly not even his first name, why should he tell you his HIV status? If you've gone on a date - fine. If he's your boyfriend, fine. But on an anonymous hookup? What's a good analogy for that sort of scenario? The percentage of gay guys who are poz is well above 1%. I mean some studies have said that soon 40% of gay black men will be poz in some urban areas. The percentage of barebackers who are poz is probably well above 50% - at least the ones you find on hookup sites doing hookups with random strangers. The NY subway system kills one of his customers every week. It's been like this for years. Only in the last few months have they started mentioning it to people. True, which begs the question why a neg guy would let a complete stranger cum in his ass without asking the guy's status? But all of those things are considered generally safe. There's a reason why barebacking is called UNSAFE SEX. Unlike those other things, there's no presumption of safety. But in the US people are still generally responsible for their actions - even the stupid ones. I mean if you make a dumb decision, it makes sense that you pay for it. It indemnifies stupidity. Tells them they were completely justified in being stupid and the consequences (their fear of being poz for the few months they have to wait for a conclusive test) is something someone else should pay for. The problem with the law is that it's not shared responsibility - the responsibility is totally on the poz guy. The neg guy is allowed to be stupid and make mistakes, but no leniency is given for the poz guy to forget to mention he's poz. It's just fucked up...
  11. But I want the site to serve a broader audience (while still serving it's existing core users). I've always wanted the site to have a broad audience, which is why all the bug chasing and chem sex stuff is separated in it's own section. But the problem is the average user sees all that stuff whether they want to or not which turns off a lot of guys. And I'd challenge you on the "so many other sites" - name another bareback discussion forum that has active participation. Even Paul Morris' forum is pretty much dead. And as far as bareback hookup sites - BBRT is about the only decent one and it needs some competition. That's really my motivation in all this - I want to broaden the appeal of this site so as I add new features it can compete with BBRT. Back in the day I helped BBRT get off the ground and got people to move from Bareback.com to BBRT. Now I'd like Breeding Zone to morph into a site where it can directly compete with BBRT - but distinguish itself by being more community oriented and having more of a "hardcore" edge. The last thing I want is for this site to only be about bug chasing and chem sex. That, to me, would be completely unacceptable.
  12. I get a lot of requests for people to cancel their memberships saying the site "isn't for them". I suspect a lot of it is because of the rather strident bug chasing, gift giving and chem sex on the site which is hard for regular members to avoid if they're not into it. So, what I'm thinking is that the basic membership to the site won't give access to those areas of the site. You'll have to make a separate request to get access to those areas. These are the areas I'm considering restrictions on: Gay Bug Chasing & Gift Giving would be grouped together in one request... HIV Fetish (and all of it's subforums) Bug Chasing & Gift Giving Fiction Chem Sex stuff would be grouped together in one request... Everything listed above in Gay Bug Chasing & Gift Giving Sex With Enhancements Chem Sex Fiction All Groups (they've become a free-for-all area and unfortunately I don't have much flexibility in limiting access). And lastly all the other backroom type sections would be grouped together in one request... Straight & Bi Bug Chasing & Gift Giving CD & Tranny Bug Chasing & Gift Giving Notice that all groups are going to get restricted. This can't really be helped. The forum section of the site is much more manageable than the group section which means a lot of the vanilla stuff in the groups will move into the forum section of the site. Now, all of this is going to create a moderation/admin nightmare, so I'm thinking I may apply a "moderation fee" of $5-10 every time you want your settings changed. You'll pay via a check or a Paypal-like service (this site isn't "family friendly" enough for Paypal) and we'll take care of it for you. One upside is that the discussion in the restricted areas will be by people really into that particular thing. There will be fewer "tourists". So there will be somewhat more privacy - though anyone who pays the moderation fee can still see what you're saying... So what are your thoughts on all of this? Do you like the idea? Don't like it?
  13. I disagree. I realize Europeans feel differently than Americans on the issue of personal responsibility. So what I'm going to say I think is only true in America because the community standards are different in Europe, but... Part of the American way of thinking is that YOU are the primary person who's responsible for your life. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps", etc. For example, take "good Samaritan laws" (whether you're legally required to give help to someone who you see who's hurt). What's typical in the US is this... That's how we think in the US - HIV is one of the only times when one person is responsible to look out for the health of another person. We are a selfish society - and "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is applied even to people who are injured. It doesn't matter whether you agree with it - that's the American standard of morality. Of course, you could say the poz guy is reponsible for the illness, but personally I think with high risk sex like barebacking, the person taking the risk is responsible. It's a bit like putting yourself in the middle of a shooting range and blaming someone else for getting shot when you shouldn't have been there in the first place. In such a self-reliant milieux, the only reason HIV is treated differently is because 1) HIV was pretty much always a fairly quick death sentence (no longer true), and 2) people were scared of HIV (shouldn't be true anymore, but is to an extent). What I'm saying is that HIV criminalization is "un-American". In America YOU are responsible for your health - no one else (unless they have an established legal relationship with you - like a parent or a doctor). There's good reason for this - if you put your health in the hands of complete strangers it's just stupid. But it's also completely stupid for someone who wants to stay neg to bareback with a complete stranger - which is most of the hookups off sites like BBRT, A4A & Manhunt. HIV Criminalization rewards stupidity by letting the stupid person punish the person who just wanted to fuck. Now imagine the poz guy was on meds, undetectable, and bottoming and no infection occurred... Why should the stupid/scared person get to harass a poz guy by filing charges against him when it was nearly impossible that anything bad could come out of it? Now, in Europe they have much more of a communal approach to life. In that setting HIV disclosure laws make perfect sense. But not in the US.
  14. It just means that what you send and receive from the server can't be viewed while it's in transit. So if you're in a coffee shop, people can't use software to see what you're doing. If you're at work behind a firewall the firewall doesn't know the nature of the pages you're surfing. That's ALL it means. Parts of this site are open to the public and I'm thinking of locking down other parts even more so you have to specially request access to them. But in the meantime logout and view the site and you'll see what's public and what's not. But remember - anyone can join for free with a valid email and see the full contents of the site.
  15. IMHO, the requirement to disclose that you're poz made sense before 1996 but hasn't made sense for over a decade now. It's not the same disease it once was. These days all the information is out there. If you're barebacking and neg it's your job to ask, not the other guy's to disclose. Make it a crime to lie about being poz, but don't require them to wear a scarlet letter. The laws on consensual sex with "almost legal" teens needs to be revisited too. Kids grow up quickly these days and the law should reflect that. I feel like there should always be some special protections for kids under 18, but "absolutely not at 17 years and 364 days" and "go ahead and gangbang him a day later" - makes no sense to me. But in each case the law is the law. They need to be changed, but in the meantime you have to abide by them.
  16. I'm going to move this into the main forum to get more exposure. Personally I sorta hate drugs - I like being in control. If a bottom has had just little I can live with it, provided they don't do more around me. But when they can't lay still or are bouncing off the walls and distracted or they interrupt sex to smoke up - I really HATE that.
  17. I've always heard the best tops have bottomed at some point in the past and the best bottoms have topped at some point in the past. You need to understand both sides to do it properly.
  18. That raises an interesting point... Maybe I should delete the poll and start over (I think I will)... It's one thing if the top becomes a total bottom, and another one if he's still topping as much as he used to...
  19. Your testimonial was too over the top though... Too many references to "the occult" - so that's not going up. Stuff like that needs to stay buried - say in the groups section.
  20. HungLatinDom is traveling in Europe at the moment. Looks like he was missing a few even before he went on his trip. So I went through the list... The following are done... However, the following names are already taken - so I can't take care of these...
  21. Just wonder what you guys think of total tops "converting" and becoming versatile and taking loads? I ask 'cause Seth Chase just filmed the first scene with him getting bred. Up until now it was always his boyfriend Aaron taking loads - now Seth is taking them too. I can see it a few different ways... Bottoms don't want the competition - they want tops to stay tops so they have guys who want to fuck them. On the other hand there's something really hot about a guy who gives and takes loads - he shares what he acquires. What do you guys think?
  22. This is one of a trio of thread... How Bad Was Your Fuck Flu? After You Converted, How Long Did It Take To Get Fuck Flu? If you haven't put your vote in on those polls, please do... And now... How long did your fuck flu last? Of course, this assumes you had fuck flu (about 1/3rd of you didn't have fuck flu). But I'm curious how long the worst part of the symptoms lasted. So if you felt pretty bad for 2 weeks, and then just felt a little run down for a couple more weeks, put 2 weeks, but comment below explaining your experience.
  23. BTW, Paul Morris likes this thread... One of these days I need to meet Paul... For having such a big name, it seems very little is actually known about him.
  24. Some of the nicest guys I know are total cumdump whores. Taking loads from just about anyone demonstrates that you treat everyone equally and always look for the best in everyone you meet. To me, those qualities reflect very well on our community.
  25. In the 'Settings' area (link is in the top right corner), there are options for Avatar & Profile Picture. The two are different. The Avatar will show up next to all your posts and is visible to people who are not logged in. Your profile picture is the picture that shows up in the top left corner of your profile. It is only visible to people who are logged in. If you want the same picture for both - you have to upload it twice. The "curious" label is explained in another thread here. There are preset labels that are based on how much you've participated on the site. Do more posts and you'll get a different label.
