Might be having side effects, so I've gone off PrEP
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in PrEP Discussion
its funny how things change once you are on it. PrEP really changed me. Now I dont worry about becoming poz, I worry about taking the medication correctly and on time, lol. Also guys who I only used to top, I will bottom for now too. -
bingo, There has to be enough of a market to support the site and make some sort of profit, and IMO by limiting it to gay men, its pretty hard. However airbnb can be pretty lucrative. My friend who is gone alot because he's a flight attendent made 25k off his place last year, and often that just with people using a sofa bed.

Lets not forget this little ambiguous gem from VW. I also had that generation of Jetta VR6, and LOVED it.

Interesting Comment Made By My Doctor
wood replied to VersatileBreeder's topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
Ive read about this, and its not really a cure perse, but more of a long term treatment, that delays insulin therapy for an extended period of time. as far as the diabetes vs HIV argument, I dont wait either, but I see why the ID doc said what he did. Diabetes is a day to day managed condition whereas HIV is now something that gets managed every 4-6 months only via blood tests, and a pill or two a day. -
Any risk in Poz Cum outside the body?
wood replied to BJBien1010's topic in HIV Risk & Risk Reduction
Yeah unless you have a history of gum disease, or had major mouth sores, I really wouldn't rule out a broken condom, or being stealthed. The effectiveness of condoms depending on the study on proper usage is anywhere from 92-98% Used incorrectly or with any amount of oil based lube, and that can drop dramatically. For example I know that with my ex, I lubed my ass a couple times with a bit of vasaline thinking he was going to fuck me raw, like when we were together, but he used a condom. Each time it broke. Proper condom usage especially in the heat of the moment can actually be quite difficult. -
I havent heard of any testing group in the netherlands yet. As of right now PrEP is pretty much U.S. only, but there are several testing groups around the globe, IIRC, I know there is one in the UK, and I think there is one in Austraila. IMO, once its efficacy is shown in more than one place its use will expand quite quickly. At this point however PrEP is only about a year old so in medical terms its a fairly new use, so it may just take a bit of time.

While Im not denying this, it is also based on heterosexual intercourse, which despite what some of us gays think, is much different. Personally I think its a mental thing. You feel better because you got what you wanted. Most likely you got off too, even if you were the bottom. The same with being with a younger guy. You feel younger because you had sex with a younger guy, and it reminded you of youth.

It's not that it cant happen, but its rare. Is there a chance you got it from oral sex? yes. But statistics say its a very remote possibility. That doesnt mean zero. When I used to work at a clinic there was a guy that came in that almost never had anal sex, but he loved to suck dick and would swallow anyones load, and did it often. He was an older guy and he did this through the 80's until today, all through the AIDS crisis. He got all sorts of oral STI's but was still neg. -
How much risk for a Poz (undetctable for 8 years)
wood replied to bottompigboi's topic in HIV Risk & Risk Reduction
Do you have a source for this? Also when you say this I would assume it is going from HIV+ person to another HIV+ person. I am almost 100% sure blood and organ transplants even from an undetectable person would be too much of a risk right now. -

The risk is quite low, but there are always too many variables to give you an accurate assessment. Factors like this can significantly affect your risk *his most recent illness (even a cold) *your immune system health *who is fucking who *how much he ejaculates *your rectal health *STD's you both may have *size of his penis *lube or no lube *how rough the sex is *how many times you have sex All of these can affect your risk level. Before I went on PrEP I would routinely have sex with undetectable guys and would top them without protection. With PrEP, I am completely vers, and have no issues having bareback sex with an undetectable partner as long as they are free of other STI's. Really its a decision you have to make. It is a low risk, but not zero risk. If you think you are going to be having sex with undetectable guys more often, you should think about PrEP. It essentially makes your risk zero for sex with an undetectable guy. -
as embarrassing as things may seem, this also is why anyone should be honest with their doctors, hospital, nurse, etc, etc. The honestly don't care, and while they may talk later, almost no one will judge you to your face, they have seen or heard worse. In terms of doctors, its important to be honest because they may be able to catch something minor well before it becomes serious. To the OP, sounds painful! glad you are on your way to recovery.

My ex had about a 5.5" cock, but pretty thick, and it was some of the best sex i've ever had. Conversely Ive had 9+ inch cocks that just felt awful. depends on the guy and a lot more than just length.

There should be a health clinic in madison that can point you in the right direction. Its pretty easy to get as any doc can perscribe it, however, Infectious disease doctors, and clinics that specialize in gay clients usually have the most knowledge on it. If the copay is an issue look to gilead, and their PrEP assistance website for more info.

Glad to see another guy on it. word of advice. Get a pill box, so you can see if you took it or not. Adherence is VERY important for optimal protection. That means everyday at close to the same time. Ive been on it for about six months now, and have had no issues. Some people get a headache when they first start it. Try and work through that because it almost always goes away as your body gets used to the medication. I can say for me, its one of the best things I've done. When having sex before, I was always worried and scared going into my next test. Now I'm not.

To What Degree Does "On Meds" = "Undetectable"?
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in HIV Risk & Risk Reduction
well PrEP makes that ability pretty damn close. If a top guy is on PrEP, and only has a few partners every few months, the risk is almost non-existent. Hell even for vers guys on PrEP like me, If you are asking, and sticking to neg guys recently tested, and undetectable guys, there is almost no risk. -

I like this idea, and it may not be a bad idea to have a pop up as a reminder every six months or so that your status will change unless it is updated, hell even saying its time for an HIV test/STI panel. -
There is some shame in publicly identifying as a barebacker, but the stats alone say it all right there. No answer+anything goes is close to the safe sex only numbers, and we all know how many of those guys dont care either.

All animals, including humans are "primal" on some levels, meaning natural instincts take over. If it wasnt for STD's, and if there was a 100% effective birth control method for woman, NO ONE would use condoms, or if they did it would be for kink. Even for men having sex with men, the top is still programmed to want to inseminate his partner. Personally I dont view bareback sex as a fetish. Your grandmother probably didn't like condoms, and I bet your mom didn't either. Its not a "natural" sexual urge to say, YES! put on a rubber! If you are looking for logical reasons, for myself I cant cum, and or lose an erection in condoms. When I bottom, they chaf and and cause a lot of irritation. As for the "climax" honestly it feels good knowing there is a shared sensation of you ejaculating in a partner or vice versa. As an additional plus cleanup is easier. wipe off slightly and take a nap.

yeah I agree here. It seems that you care for her, but its time to care for yourself right now. And while this may seem callous, you have only been together a year. That will come and go. If you feel like telling her later, so be it, I just dont see the point in doing it right now.

Dont get me wrong, I have hope, but I still think its a ways off. However, There is one thing that I think makes it promising. In the past 30 years, there has been a hue technology revolution, and that hasn't been just in smartphones and computers. Medicine has also hugely benefited from those increases in technology. Personally I wouldn't be shocked if we saw a cure or vaccine in 10 years, but I also dont expect it. HIV is just a bitch to get rid of in certain parts of the body. Also Gene therapy, and the like is VERY new, and it has to be proven safe before it can be used, especially in an environment where HIV is highly treatable, and things like PrEP exist. Introducing a rouge gene based vaccine that may have huge issues 5 or 10 years down the line would be catastrophic. Much like earlier more simple vaccine an HIV vaccine would most likely be widely used, and if it causes things like cancers or other health issues or death years later, much of the world could be affected.

Might be having side effects, so I've gone off PrEP
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in PrEP Discussion
This does highlight one thing for me, which reinforces why PrEP is a GREAT idea. For Neg guys who put themselves into some more risky situations, PrEP is great. However, if need be the person can stop taking it. This is the biggest difference between becoming HIV+ and needing to take medication, and using PrEP to prevent infection. Most doctors do not like to switch therapies on people "just because" and even with some side effects some are reluctant to do so. So if you are HIV+ and having issues, its more complicated than just going off, or switching to another medication. I had a friend who is on combivir and sustiva for I think over 10 years. He wanted a once a day pill, but his ID doc said, this is really working well for you, and I dont think switching at this time is a good idea. Dont get me wrong, people can switch and do. But many ID docs like to keep as many treatment options as possible in their arsenal just in case something major happens.
