One thing that strikes me about this is expectation setting: when we read posts on sites like this one, we read about guys having successful hot encounters with other guys they've met online. People skip the flakes and the details that aren't so horny about when it doesn't quite work. So we hold ourselves up to a benchmark that is a bit artificial. I enjoyed reading the thread "When hookups get.... strange" which was mainly about guys partying, but it is amusing to see that behind the scenes things go wrong for other guys too, and it's not just me. As for apps, I've changed how I used them. When home (small town 40 miles from London) I only use it to keep in touch with people I already know - although I try and move conversation to WhatsApp as soon as I can. I tend to only use the apps for trawling when staying away from home and when I can actually meet or host. I think a lot of guys are on the apps because they are horny and arent really prepared to meet (their flat mate is home, they haven't cleaned out, etc). I dont want to be one of those.

Hm sounds like Wednesdays are worth a try. I always imagined weekends would be busiest so only tend to visit saturday or sunday afternoons or evenings.

There's a number of stories doing the rounds today about someone who caught Bacterial Meningitis in the Kit Kat Club in Berlin. They're advising anyone who attended to seek medical attention as the individual is not well enough to communicate who they were with or where in the club. None of the staff have symptoms, but all were offered antibiotics. Tops: Online Profiles - What Seals The Deal?

Agree with PhoenixGeoff above but would add that negativity in profiles comes off bad. Some guys list a whole bunch of "No" items without mentioning any positives or things they like. Making the profile read like a shopping list of wants also puts people off because you think that if you don't match all the requirements then you'll rejected. I'll also skip profiles that are largely blank or contain lots of "Ask Me" entries. In terms of the text, if I see someone's copied in that bit of text you sometimes see about "Goventment institutions may not use this profile for research or...." then I'm thinking this person is part of the tin foil hat brigade and best avoided. The cut & paste of BDSM test results also isn't interesting. Write something original that makes you stand out from the rest. Every time I read something in a profile that has made me smile or laugh, I've messaged the guy to say so, and it's a great icebreaker. -
So based on your advice and exploits I've finally decided to plan a trip - are there any other good places to visit around that area? Someone mentioned a sauna in Carlisle?

Haven't been in a few weeks, but my favourite is Friday evening - earlier on you get an after work crowd then there's a bit of a lull and then there's decent up for it second wave that comes a bit later. The after work crowd I am a little cautious of as many won't have cleaned out and a mess really puts me off. Like any similar club it can vary week to week so give it more than one chance.

Yup I was also going to mention Greenhouse Sauna in Luton. There is a bench and a cage in one of the rooms on the second floor. The cage lid is padded and 'the right height' so you can use that if the bench is occupied. I've always found the guys here kinda shy - especially as compared to some of the reports on this site written about guys exploits in saunas or bathhouses in other countries. Maybe it is the British 'reserve' - I don't know... but I've spent long periods in the slings and bench at Greenhouse and found guys to be very shy to get involved.

Generally I use j-lube inside but find that does get absorbed so I also use some Vaseline which lasts longer and isn’t rubber friendly...

This was a long time ago, probably only a few months after I 'came out' in my youth... but it sticks in mind as being one of the first: It started when I met with a guy who was going to teach me rollerblading in Hyde Park in London. After the lesson we went back to his place for a shower and drink. He had an interesting 'sculpture' in his room that was of a pair of boots and being into boots and stuff I commented on it. It turned out it belonged to a friend of his and after some conversation he was adamant we should meet that evening for drinks as we would surely hit it off. So we headed into SoHo and met his friend in one of the bars for a few drinks, and sure enough we really did hit it off. One thing led to another and we needed to find someplace more private to play. It turned out this guy worked in an office above the Clone Zone shop in Old Compton Street, so we headed there and then onto the flat roof on top of the building. It was pretty amazing being up there four floors above London's gay centre looking down on the Saturday night crowds. We spent most of the night up there fooling around, and I think the memory that really sticks in my mind is kneeling, leaning over the little wall at the front edge of the building looking down on the street and across at Comptons Bar while getting a good deep fucking. Anyone looking up could have seen us, but people rarely look up.

I'd check squirt.org as they have a database of cruising spots and each has a virtual message board. You can gauge how busy spots are from the number of recent messages. They also post warnings about security patrol and stuff (eg see entry on British Library) -

Nice fetish session last night - someone I've met and played with a number of times before came over. We started in full rubber (fetish gear - not condoms!) and did quite a lot of play in gear. Breathcontrol, forced poppers, gas masks, trampling... I wanted to get trampled full weight in MX boots which happened, but he chickened out of using the football boots/cleats on me which is a shame. Oh yeah - I have experienced similar - a couple of guys discussing Union Politics and the finer points of Brexit quite loudly in a darkroom - I am quite sure specifically to clear people out, then they jumped into the sling.

Well posting this must've been tempting fate. That day, I got a call that my Mum was in the hospital Accident & Emergency so, of course, I had to put my plans on hold. And it just goes to prove when you plan a weekend like this, it rarely happens as you expect. When you don't plan it you're often surprised. I have had plenty of fun since, at Hampstead, on Grindr and at SOP so it's all good! A. x

I go to SOP quite regularly which is a club in London that caters for guys into yellow - but it does attract a number of guys from the sleazier end of the spectrum some not actually into piss at all. Occasionally you get guys who hog the sling and I remember on one occasion a guy was in there for hours and wouldn't budge even when asked. Thing was, as regulars, we knew he was just there for a fuck and wasn't into piss at all. In fact previously he'd had a bit of a drama-fit once when someone accidentally splashed him. So we decided to take matters into our own hands and a few of us went into the dark room for a play where there was plenty of "accidental" splashing. It had the desired effect and we were able to take turns in the sling after that. Problem solved!

Yeah sorry that should be “100 Men” not guys. I emjoyed watching something that celebrated and portrayed something close to the kind of lifestyle I lead in a positive light rather than reinforcing the propaganda of monogamous marriage - which might be what some people want, but personally I have grown tired of having it forced upon me or assuming that’s what we all want.
