The apps are dehumanizing garbage by design. The majority of them are set up like you’re at a market browsing the available products. That encourages real shitty behavior. I’ve been hooking up more than usual lately and it has made me miss the sex parties and dark rooms and bathhouses and even the ABS/AVS options. The guys there are DTF without suffering from the induced ADHD of online hunting/shopping. And you can meet great people and have good conversation in real time. I blame the apps for a lot of it. When you meet in person you are usually mindful of etiquette, but that goes out the window on Grindr et al. Once an interaction is mediated by the apps it has a tendency to encourage pretty rude behavior. You can extend the principle to most online settings.

If you read the Chem Sex Fiction stories carefully you’ll see that all of that’s in there already. Including at least the allusion to the eroticization of murder. Theres a certain abjection process common to the Chem Sex stories that is both horrific and an amplification of PNP realities. Shorthand for it is often corruption. It basically follows the conventions of a seduction narrative but brings it to darker places. pervinmt has a story that I think is kind of the epitome of this on the site, about a straight skater boy converted to meth addict and eventually a bottom cumdump whore. There’s a certain viciousness to the story and it’s definitely not for everyone, but neither is some oft-cited and well regarded pornography from TIM, like Slammed or the Touch of Evil scene from Bad Seed, both of which are probably about as close to the corruption narratives as you’re likely to find in porn that’s not restricted to the dark web’s peer to peer networks. I think it can be very hot, and there’s an element of death in sex and sex in death at an almost metaphysical level (even outside the long shadows cast by HIV). There’s the kind of ravenous bacchanalia of gangbangs that toy with the outer limits of consent, especially once drugs and age and power dynamics enter the mix. And you will find it all in porn, and much more as well. That said there’s usually a fundamental distinction between erotica and the alternatives. The purpose of the stories is to provide fantasy masturbation material, but that’s not really the aim of something like Stranger By the Lake (which has a novel tie-in I’ve beeN reading) or films like Cruising or works by authors like Dennis Cooper. Those stories might be heightened by the presence of the erotic but getting off is not the focus. I think you should experiment and see! And hey…it’s almost October country after all…

I read this right before the pandemic, so 2019 maybe. Really cool epistolary story told through reviews of a gay male escort back in 2001. Very transgressive material as is customs for Dennis Cooper, but it’s also surprisingly funny and but for the fact that the book predates BZ by several years I would be excused for thinking Cooper’s book was inspired by BZ. The TL;DR: A bunch of perverse people who haunt an escort review site exchange stories about a mysterious and elusive young whore named “Brad,” and some of them start looking for him and trying to sort fact from fiction. Or maybe they are looking for him because they want to play out the ultimate fantasy. The overarching plot is kind of tertiary to the people writing online and their twisted sexual subcultures. If you haven’t read it and you like BZ, were an early fan of TIM videos and barebacking culture and the like, this book is practically written for you. For decades the only option was to buy a physical copy or get one from a library, but an ebook came out in 2022 and you can get a copy for Kindle for $10. Anyone read this or something similar in the way of gay transgressive lit?

I did not notice any real differences. My old physician had already recommended Truvada every other day before my new provider switched me to Descovy. I had some mild GI issues with both, but all of that disappeared entirely with apretude. My only complaint with the latter (apart from my aversion to needles that has undoubtedly saved my ass over the years) is that the testing regimen is every two months instead of three, along with a heavy blood draw. But if needles don’t unnerve you then I don’t much see the downside.

I do not know what “counting coups” is but based on your description it’s just called sexual assault in the Anglophone world. And it’s pretty common for men to do it in certain settings because it’s not like gay spaces are heavily policed for this. I assume most guys who operate in play spaces go through something similar at some point, though maybe not full on sex. And it is pretty common for people to fetishize it after they have experienced it.

It is fundamentally dishonest to equate the Republican Party, which enthusiastically supports a con man looking to break our institution to pave the way for an oligarchy, and the Democratic Party which may have some corruption but remains committed to the basic principles of our constitution and liberal democracy. It isn’t even worth going point by point with people who claim otherwise. The vast majority of those people are right wingers pretending to be something else, or they are remarkably ill informed.
