PREP Effectiveness for Cumdumps ?

I recently started PrEP but haven't been quite as sexually active as I'd like, so I stopped.  If I think I'm going to get lucky, I'll take 2 pills at least 3 hours before.  If things work out, I'll stay on it for a while.  More often than not, I'm either too picky, not aggressive enough, whatever, so I see no reason to take a daily pill if I'm going to go weeks/months without getting laid. 

Is there a risk to this?  Could I build up an immunity (like antibiotics?)   

FWIW, I'm a top but I do enjoy swallowing.  I have a thing for groups.  I've done 3-4 somes but really want to be the last of a bunch of tops with one bottom...someone I wouldn't even need to lube up for. 🙂

I respectfully disagree. A lot of us have an allergic reaction to latex.  Often tops can't get hard with a condom.  Its hard to feel  any connection or sensation. Condoms smell weird. They remove the cum aspect. And tend to make the bottom sore, which limits extra play.

Read up about dosing requirements for on-demand PrEP or ask your doctor. You need to follow the instructions.

I take daily pills and have done consistently for several years. For me the initial side effects were quite bad (especially some intense headaches, strangely stinky poo and weird dreams). Once they settled down I was reluctant to go off the pills, as I was told I'd likely suffer the side effects again each time I restarted taking the medication.

Taking PrEP for ten years (or any length of time) doesn't make you "immune" to HIV. When actively taking the regimen it reduces the risk of transmission to essentially zero. As soon as you stop the regimen and it's out of your system, that's over. 

Get a more informed doctor, this one is putting you at risk.

First off. Its an antiviral not antibiotic. And you have to take them for at least two weeks before it's affective.  

The sad thing is that people who don't use it correctly get pozzed and then tell their friends that PrEP doesn't work and puts those who  take  their word for it,  and spread HIV to even more people.

100% agree with this. Power bottom here who's been 100% raw for over eight years now and I can completely feel a difference. For me it's not just the "connection" or thrill of being bred, tops just don't get and stay as hard with a rubber, and no amount of lube keeps a piece of rubber from eventually dragging my hole raw.

1. No, you don't have to worry about becoming PrEP resistant or immune to PrEP by not taking it while you're sexually inactive.

There WOULD be a concern if you were sexually active with partners who might have HIV, especially untreated HIV, and you were only taking PrEP sporadically. But if you stick to the recommended regimen (2 pills, 2 to 12 hours before sex; 1 pill 24 hours after sex, another 24 hours after that), you should be fine. Adding a third day of "24 after" couldn't hurt (since many guys are on daily dosing).

2. The kind of thing you're talking about - going last into a bottom with multiple loads already in - IS the main way a top might get infected by topping, especially if you have even tiny nicks, sores, or anything else on your cock where the virus might enter (along with entering through your urethral lining). All the more reason to be on PrEP at least for the duration of when you ARE having sex.

While two weeks of daily dosing is indeed the suggested minimum before going "all bare" for sex, the 2-1-1 "on demand" formulation seems to be effective to essentially the same degree.

Both depend, of course, on actually following the directions. Missing doses is believed to be the #1 cause of PrEP failure, rare as it is.

Right, I know it's an anti-retroviral.  The question was merely whether going on and off it can somehow build up a resistance.  I didn't think so but figured the guys on here have greater collective knowledge than I do.  

I don't have issues with side-effects so that isn't a concern.  I simply don't want to take anything I don't need.

American health authorities don't condone 2-1-1 but it's accepted, IIRC, in Canada and elsewhere so I'd be comfortable going with that if a hookup arose out of the blue (well, a few hours before anyway.)  Again, if I thought I'd be having sex fairly regularly,  I'd go on the daily regimen.  I'm accepting applications if anyone is interested

 Now there’s Apertude which is an injection bi-monthly. It doesn’t protect you from other nasties. I have a great new doctor who’s an expert in infectious disease. I think if you have risky sex then searching for a primary care physician who specializes in infectious disease might be a great option then just any Physician.

When I first wanted to start PrEP almost a decade ago I had to find an infectious disease doctor just to find one that even knew about it. The first doctor I went to basically tried to correct me that no such pill existed. Thankfully now pretty much every doctor has heard about it and unless I'm wrong I think every state nationally is under a federal mandate to provide this care. I know at least in my state there is. Currently my GP handles mine.
