There's actually a reason for it - Vitamin D deficiency - most people in northern climates are not getting enough sun, which means they're low on Vitamin D. Being low on Vitamin D can lead to... Depression Difficulty in sleeping Excessive fatigue Low energy levels Low immunity levels Mood swings Muscle pain Weak bones (which might result in fractures) Weight Loss While you might like that last one, the others aren't so great. I think your particular symptoms are deeper than just a Vitamin D deficiency, but Vitamin D might be exacerbating things. Get your doctor to test you for Vitamin D and make sure you get your levels back in line. In the meantime you can probably safely take some Vitamin D - 1000 mg / day of Vitamin D3 would be a good place to start. If you're going to go higher than that you really should talk to your doctor. BTW, oddly milk isn't all that great of a source of Vitamin D - at least not in the US. Here they fortify milk with a form of vitamin D that can't be easily absorbed by the body. What you want is Vitamin D3. I take one or two 1000 mg tablets every day and it has helped my mood significantly. Come summer make sure you get outdoors and get some sun. Getting (and maintaining) a light tan is actually a good thing since sun exposure gets your body to generate its own Vitamin D.

    I think the issue is that there's rape and there's statutory rape. For the guys who enjoyed the experience it was only statutory rape. The problem is both are called "rape". In your case age had little to do with it. You could have been 23, not 13, and had the same reaction if you weren't prepared for sex and didn't feel in control of the situation.

    Jim - Thanks so much for those clarifications. The fact that the ARVs are low-dose and not really absorbed too much sounds great. I'm not a big fan of "better living through chemistry", but microbicides sound like a form of PrEP I could support. As far as banner ads for recruitment, whatever people may think of this site, we have some of the highest risk people as members. Our members will therefore be some of the best test subjects since they take (willingly) on far more risk than the average guy.

    Thanks so much for posting this. I've been curious about microbicides as a form of HIV prevention... A few questions... That's a bit of a bummer since I was hoping microbicides would be an alternative to ARVs. How much of the ARV gets absorbed into the body? Do you know or is there a theory on it? To what degree are microbicides like taking ARVs? Or is the idea to put ARVs at the point of infection only and not have them circulating in the body generally? Is there a risk the person will become resistant to the ARV? Irregular use of ARVs has led to meds-resistance in the past - just wondering if this is a concern - or is this one of the questions they're looking at with the current trials? Can you qualify that statement a bit? Is it a matter that there have been few if any Phase 3 trials? Or have there been trials that have failed? I think I heard of one vaginal trial that failed. Have there been any Phase 3 trials for anal microbicides? I guess what I'm getting at is there's a big difference between not proving efficacy yet and trying and having failed. Which of those better describes where thing stand? If you would like banner ad space on this site to recruit volunteers when the trial starts, just let me know. I'll be happy to provide it free of charge.

    A researcher in Australia has figured out how to modify HIV viruses so they don't lead to AIDS. I wonder if you were infected by someone with the modified virus whether your virus would be modified as well. In that case bug chasing the modified virus would make a lot of sense - it might be able to protect you from the deadly form of HIV. But best yet it will mean poz guys can go off meds.

    I've met MANY MANY poz guys who had 'neg' in their profiles for the simple reason that they're not out about being poz. It's a bigger problem on sites with a mixed bb/condom crowd like A4A or Manhunt. I can't tell you how many "neg, safe sex only" bottoms I've blown my load inside of. But #5 (shaved) I sorta hate. Stubble is pretty awful. So my recommendation is never shave. Just use something like a beard trimmer to trim the hairs shorter if you want a cleaner look. If you absolutely must shave any part of your body other than your beard, use what's called a "safety razor" - they're what hospitals use and you do not use shaving cream with them. They make it impossible to nick yourself.
