    I have been taking loads bare for over a decade. It's nice to now have some protection. I had some stomach upset at first. Over time the other things like emotional connection start to matter more, but if you are not on the same page sexually to start with, it will be hard to make a go of it. But you don't need to break up with him "over sex." You need to break up with him because he is an abusive, controlling, sex-shaming shit bag who is shredding your self esteem. If you really don't know any other gay guys where you live, it is time to move. He is exploiting your sense of isolation to control your behavior. That will not lead to anything good. It may be that there is no malice with him. He may just have too many issues to be in a healthy relationship. Still, there is no reason for you to put up with this treatment.

    I had already been doing it for a few years before I heard the term the first time. Like you I started out having sex in the pre-AIDS/pre-condom era. Around 1985, the safe sex message had permeated the environment enough for me to start using condoms in all sex.
