To begin, the state of the art of synthetic biology and genetic engineering in 2012 is not enough to create such a virus from scratch. And in the early 80's it would have been like asking cavemen to build the Empire State building. Second, the origin of HIV has been well tracked, we have genetic and epidemiological proof of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_AIDS I have an open mind, you need one when you are a scientist, but having an open mind should also come with some filters that detect patently untrue claims.
