Scotland, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar voted to remain in the EU, and ca. 12,000,000 (about 28 %) out of the total number of voters didn't bother.

And I know some conservatives like to label everything they don't like "porn" or "socialism"

Any man who claims they don't like porn is either lying or might - possibly - need to talk to a therapist. Porn is great! (Sex is better, I'll admit but they're not mutually exclusive and imo the contrary is true).

Indeed, if the same government (or the feds actually) cared enough about its people, the vaccine would have not been stored in Europe but stateside in US. It's just that they got lax since the last cases were in late 70s-early 80's. Early on I had a very distinct impression from hysteria in national press that this is yet another gay-centric disease, and gays are the only ones getting it that this is again are the early days of a new AIDS crisis.

From what I read the moment they bring it to the US the clock starts ticking on the expiration date. But their agreement with the manufacturer is if they store it in Denmark then the clock doesn't start. So it's much more cost effective to have it stored in Denmark given that the chances of a smallpox/monkeypox outbreak were very low.

There are aspects of what the government did that can be criticized, but that's not one of them.

Thank you kindly, I already have my first dose.
But I'll pass on medical advice from someone like you until the time you get your own MD license.

Comparison between COVID immune response and one from any pox is at minimum speculative (if that someone was a medical specialist) and flat out irresponsible when you're not. There is a ton of comorbidities and factors that was involved with either disease, and any individual human has his own response, as everyone's health is different.

I've had COVID even with vaccine and booster done - don't preach to me about labels.

If waiting 2 years is better than 4 weeks as the manufacturer specified, why wouldn't you wait those 2 years to get the best overwhelming immune defense ever?? Yet you counted the 9 gleeful days that are remaining for you. Do you have an appointment or you'd take your chances with a walk-in inquiry? This shit is just rife with hypocrisy.

It turns to end of November for me because I am out of state at the time when my 10 weeks make me eligible. And when I am back, having an appointment proved that it takes 2 weeks between booking and coming in person. There are no walk-ins advertised for the second doses - you have to have an appointment that NY State makes.

Maybe read up before passing judgement.

I did NOT say it was better to wait 2 years. I said there's no difference in efficacy if you get the 2nd shot before the 2 year mark. The US studies that authorized use only looked at 28 day timing for the 2nd shot. But other studies have been done and the CEO of the manufacturer is well-acquainted with those studies. The CDC/FDA doesn't believe it unless they do the study themselves. It's a failing of the CDC/FDA.

And I didn't give medical advice. I quoted medical authorities. HUGE difference.

The fact so many people in the UK who are eligible to vote in elections/referenda can't be bothered to take 15 minutes (if that) out of their day, to help influence the nation's future, annoys the hell out of me.

Sadly, the same is generally true in the U.S., though in the last presidential race, turnout was extraordinary (compared with past elections, that is, not compared with an absolute standard). By percentage of registered voters, it was the highest turnout since 1900. That, at least, is one thing we can credit to Donald Trump: he turned his supporters out, but he also turned out the opposition even more.

I suspect that might happen here next time there is a General Election. We can hope.

Same in The Netherlands.
Are we in the 'free' West so spoiled and used to our rights and privileges we take them for granted?

Wishing Her Majesty good fortune in appointing your next PM on Tuesday after the leadership election in the Conservative party. If I was her I'd ask Lady Theresa May to return to Downingstreet.

It appears so, and this has been state of affairs for longer than I've been alive.  The public school system hasn't taught civics for decades, and when kids don't grow up understanding that a democracy only lives when the citizens take part, the autocrats find their opportunity - and then it's too late.  Here in the US, our Congress is full of greedy, money-grubbers, and on both sides of the aisle.  There may be a handful of plain old middle-class folks (that most likely just arrived in Washington, and aren't fully corrupted yet), But the 'Mr. Smith that went to Washington' is as extinct as the dinosaurs.

I was a poll supervisor for the last Canadian Federal election, it was one of the best jobs I've had, especially because of voter... the at my polling station before counting began. He was a clearly homeless man passing by, I was getting some air. He asked what was happening and when I said the federal election he asked if he could vote.

I said absolutely you can, if you have ID. He had a photocopy of ID that listed the hospital as his residence (they do that to make life easier for them), I shouldn't have accepted it, not being original, but fuck if I hadn't been given the authority to decide.

He was so damn happy to participate and get to have a say (I'm sure he voted for the leftist NDP, in a riding the conservative candidate won like 50+%).

If only every citizen would feel that way.

it already happened. I’m over it and not worrying about monkeypox. It wasn’t too bad.

Same here, think I got it from a fuck I received outdoors from this younger jock top.  Turned out that guy caught it from visiting SF a few weeks earlier. Was contagious by the time he bred me.  It was a strange feeling getting a few pod’s. They hurt, but healed quickly.

I'd like to add that if the rest of the world had helped earlier outbreaks of monkeypox in the parts of Africa where it was already endemic, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now.

I'm sure we can all agree on this.
