Okay, I am probably going to share too much information (as usual), but here I go.

I called my Ryan White Case Manager, I get SSD and SSI BUT because of my participation in the Ryan White program I have no co-pays, even though I am on Medicare, for things like Prescobix,  Descovy, and less expensive generics like lorezapam and alprazolam.    My case manager is gay, he doesn't care if I tell him I have a partner yet I have had multiple sex partners after being married.

So on Friday and I I called him and asked "Do you know where I can get the vaccine for monkeypox"?  His response was "one of my clients (someone like myself) has monkeypox but I have no idea where you can get the vaccine.  He said he had heard the number of does was limited in Florida.  Now the area I live in, Pinellas County, had more cases than Sarasota, Tampa, Bradenton, etc.).  He even stated that he had A CLIENT WITH MONKEYPOX.  However, he had no further information.

Now, to be transparent, this case manager has been very good to me.  When I lived in Manatee County, I must have had 10 case managers, ALL of whom resigned.  Now, how this guy who has provided me better  care service than I ever received in the past and yet he has NO information regarding monkeypox is beyond me.

So, I am asking fellow BZ members, if you know how and where I can get the monkeypox vaccine I would greatly appreciate it.

THANK YOU for all those who are willing to listen and help me, because frankly, I need some guidance.

It looks like the county health department is the place to start. [think before following links] https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/as-monkeypox-cases-rise-advocates-say-so-is-the-stigma-surrounding-it[think before following links] https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2022/07/20/hillsborough-county-reports-first-3-cases-of-monkeypox/ ("Those being prioritized for the shots in Florida are: Close contacts of people with monkeypox; health care workers at high risk; immunocompromised men who have sex with men; and men with a recent history of a sexually transmitted disease who have sex with men, Choe said." (emphasis added)). These 2 news stories are dated July 20; the webpage of the Florida Dept of Health that discusses MP is dated July 1. As of July 24, according to the Fla. Dept of Health Reportable Diseases Frequency Report, there have been 5 cases in Hillsborough County (Tampa); 13 cases in Pinellas County (St. Petersburg); 129 in Broward County; and 71 in Miami-Dade.

I wonder what they classify as “recent” history of STD, considering that many men who get regular screenings may only do so on a quarterly or semiannual basis.

The Guardian's 'First Edition' Newsletter has some pieces of information on Monkeypox and the situation in the UK.

Sexual health activist and researcher Dr Will Nutland (PrEPster & The LoveTank) and gay Guardian columnist Owen Jones deal with public health messaging not geared towards gay & bisexual men, abstinence-based messaging, the vaccine situation in the UK, and the need to overhaul Britain's sexual health system.

I think this is going to stay mainly a gay thing. Given the short window virus has for infection, about two weeks, you need serious network effects to keep it going. The moment virus finds it way into straight world it will be a dead end for it. Let’s face it, straight don’t mingle nearly as much as us.

Unless, Of course, a child gets it and becomes the vector. Those of us who came of age before there was a chicken pox vaccine can attest how that would spread at school. And unlike adults, children have no sense of personal space.

Chickenpox has an R0 of >10 so its a lot more contagious.  It's been 2+ months of MP already and the few cases outside gay population seem to have stopped there. 95-99% of cases in gay population so far is a pretty telling statistic. Forget air transmission, and probably very diminished/unlikely surface transmission. Seems the way for MP is direct skin to skin contact with a lesion. Sex is the perfect way to pass it on, and with the number of partners gay men have a route for MP to take off.

Are there any studies on MPx virus's stability outside of a human body? How long does it survive for: hours, days, weeks, months?

I mean how concerned should one be when, say, holding onto the bus handrail after someone with MPx hand lesions?

Well, New York City is now up over 1,000 cases (1,040 to be exact). The CDC (using slightly older state-level data) says just under 1/3rd of the US cases (31%) are in New York State. California only has about 40% of the cases we do despite having double the population.

I think there's a lot they don't know, but…

Unlike SARS-CoV-2, which isn’t thought to linger on surfaces much, poxviruses can survive for a long time outside the body, making surfaces such as bedsheets and doorknobs potential vectors of transmission.

MPX can survive at least 15 days - weeks and months even on contaminated surfaces especially in dark, cool, low humidity environments.

Now imagine slings, benches, glory-holes, lube dispensers, toilets, etc at various venues in Europe and North America.

The straight hetero world does not engage in mass group sex as often. (other than porn)

There are gay sex clubs that host bi nights, as well as cities that have fairly active swinger communities. The percentage of the straight community that is involved is lower but it is still a potential disease vector. I'm still of the opinion that monkeypox will find it's way into the schools before the end of the year.

It doesn't have to. If the virus can survive on surfaces for days, all it can take is a contaminated handrail on public transport, or any surface that is touched by straights and gays that has nothing to do with sex; think gyms, supermarkets, restaurants, taxi cabs, even an elevator in your apartment building. I mean the sheer number of ways it can transmit theoretically is mind-boggling, yet it's still just within the gay community. That's what's surprising to me.

I think gay men are way more consensus of health matters.  Look at the number of bi men we have all played with they are going to move this to the general population.  The 20 and under's are going to spread Mpox like a wild fire cuz they are invincibility.

It's just a matter of time until the general population catches up to where we (gay) men are now.

I'm doing my part. I've come up with this poster which I'm going to put up all over Philly, especially in locations where MSM gather... The code links to the Department of Health where they can get information and set up an appointment to get vaccinated.
