PREP Effectiveness for Cumdumps ?

If I was not already Poz I would run to my Dr. to get put on this drug. When I first converted we had millions of people a year still dying from AIDS.

And there are different kinds of Prep, if you haven’t gotten HIV yet Prep, offers protection. When HIV is not the issue there is Doxycyclene that offers protection for serious cumdumps against some STDs like Syph, gono, and clamidia. Doxy is only taken after exposure, Prep is a routine dosage for coverage.

So, typically most infections you see from people taking PrEP are due to poor adherence on taking their medications.

According to the most recent published information I could fine (June 2024), a total of 55 confirmed failures of PrEP were noted out of the studies dating back to 2017, after adherence was taken into account. As stated previously, this accounts to approximately a 99.92% effective protection rate. 

It should be noted that these numbers are solely based on patients self reporting adherence, so take that with a grain of salt. The number could be higher or lower based off of the variability and lack of controlled and strict monitoring.

Of note from the study I'll list below was that injectable cabotegravir long acting (CAB-LA) PrEP has show to be the most effective, since the medication offers protection for 2 months and limited the possibility of accident poor dosing adherence. However, this can lead to accidental viral suppression with confirmed infection, and thus needs to be followed up with continued HIV RNA testing. 

TL;DR- It's generally effective to take PrEP, but you have to be strictly adhering to taking it on time.

I remember reading that coinfection with another STI reduces Prep's effectiveness. There was even an accompanying graph showing different rates for different STIs. I think this was on the CDC website, but I can't find it now.
