Update on the boy... He has his ups and downs. Last couple of days been more feeling down. Viral load is at 800,000 and CD4 count is 7; Has basically no immune system in his words. His doctor wants him to avoid public as much as possible, to avoid getting infections else that he might not be able to fight off. "I fucking hate feeling like I'm going backwards. I was feeling so good the past couple weeks, and now I'm sick and nauseous and week and dizzy. I just want to go forward."

Yea..I had a big problem with that video. I stopped and watched it one day in disbelief. An extremely ineffective way to prevent HIV. I talked with the owner about it, and learned that this was an option for them to play the video in place of offering more testing services, which further disappointed me. They would be providing a much better service to members by helping to make testing services more available than playing an ineffective video. I understand that the testing location was a bit clumsy there...but I would really like to encourage them, and other clubs to offer more testing - not only for HIV, but other STDs too.

I think it is connected to the HIV prevalence rate in the community. I would first say, what percent of guys bareback in the first place. I'd probably say that is pretty high - over 80% Then what percentage of them would be poz - can range from 5% in Iowa to 50% in San Francisco and even more in Washington DC. Baltimore/Washington area has always had a high rate, due to it being a smaller city, but with a large gay and HIV population, giving a larger percentage.

I think that many guys are "closet Barebackers". As you indicate, they post that they want safe, but then behind closed doors they will bareback. Some of them though do so thinking that both parties are negative, and may change their mind if hearing that a guy is poz. That is a great question to put out there. I think it is situational. At a bb sex party, where most are both topping and bottoming, if a guy fucks me, I will usually assume it fair game to flip him around and reciprocate fucking him raw too. Usually they are up per agreements with HIV prevention organizations. As most have closed rooms, you are on yr own to follow or not follow the signs, or use or not use th free condoms that they provide. Bathhouses where sex goes n behind closed doors have no authority to monitor or control what goes on behind the closed doors. What happens in the open is another story. In some cities, they can not allow sex in the open t all, while in others, they may allow it, but then are obligated to enforce their safe sex policies. I have seen some clubs like Eros in SF walk through to police the sex, though many guys still bareback anyway. The choice is certainly yours. I don't think the signs are going to stop anyone, though it's important for guys to think through their decisions and be prepared for the outcome
