Are there other bottoms that like bare but not wanting pozzed?
wood replied to Dex's topic in Making The Decision To Bareback
get on PrEP. -
Many viral illnesses have a infectious profile. There is still a lot being found about viral illnesses in general. If there is anything good that happend out of HIV its that it made huge strides in the field of virology. As far as what fluids the virus is present in, thats where many virus' vary. Take influeza or Rhinovirus, They tend to only be found in the nose and respiratory track, so ironically sometimes kissing a person with a cold or flu wont transmit it to you, but being in the same room where someone sneezed even minutes ago, can transmit it. Mono is in saliva but tends not to be in semen. Hep C is only blood borne, but Hep B is in semen and saliva. Then there are the multitude of different herpes virus' and of course HPV. I suspect that in the next few decades we are going to see a lot more progress in the field of virology. It really is a field that we see new things being discovered all the time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpesviridae

Its important to remember this is just a study, not an FDA approved treatment, so I doubt you will see many doctors prescribing it yet. With that said, I know at IML last year there were more than a few doctors that were dosing themselves during the event. Also not to put too fine a point on it, but there's probably a good chance you should be on ARV treatment first. Any good doctor would address that first.

LOL, I agree, and I will explain a bit further. Unlike say a regular bathhouse where its very normal to rebuff/be rebuffed by lots of people, and ac t a bit standoff-ish, IML really isnt like that. Young guys talk to old, large talk to thin, etc, etc.
-
If you have a hotel room (at the host hotel only!!!), just leave your door open, and lay back, its pretty much that easy. Despite what people may think IML and its attendees are extremely friendly, and most will help you out in any way they can. The biggest rule is don't be an asshole to anyone.

damn you must have a lot of free time. Also I would probably say the "neg recently tested" status may not be accurate anymore.

Doxyclycline has long been used as a preexposure prophylaxis. Its used as a an antimalarial, and as a maintenance antibiotic for treatment of acne, so daily long term usage is nothing new for this drug. I myself was on it as a teenager for two years to treat acne. Also I disgree with the resistance argument. Resistance comes with incomplete treatment, not steady usage. The main danger here is the same as PrEP. People forgetting to take it like they should. That will lead to resistance. Do I think this is something that should be implimented on a large scale? no. PrEP for HIV is much different because its not curable. With that said I could see it being useful for a few weeks at a time when people may be exposed to lots of different pathogens.

They Don't Know If I'm Positive
wood replied to 19HairyBoy's topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
depending on what type of test used, it seems like certain tests have a much higher rate of false positives. Anyway congrats on the great news. -
IMO the biggest issues with PrEP in any country with universal healthcare is cost, and its most likely the reason that many countries are dragging their feet on approving it. And quite frankly they are right. Everyone knows that once someone is HIV+ its more costly in the long run. However its also known that not all people exposed will become HIV+ This is where much cheaper campaigns like testing more often and advocating for condom use come into play. In this circumstance its something that I wish Gilead would address, but I doubt they will. In the US they know insurance companies often wont foot the entire bill or their is a large copay, so that where the assistance program comes into play. However, in countries with Universal coverage, it doesn't work like that. Gilead likes the way its set up in the US because it allows they to still reap huge profits from the drug. Say PrEP is $1000/month, and your insurance will only cover $800. They just give you a "coupon" for $180/month and then its $20 for you. However, they still make their $800 from the drug. Other countries like Australia won't pay that amount and will instead negotiate drug rates which may be something like $300/month or less. Gilead doesn't want to make less, and the Australia government doesn't really want to pay a few extra grand per year to otherwise healthy people. I am about the farthest from a conspiracy theorist there is, but I cant see it any other way. the US has some of the worlds strictest laws in regards to drug testing, and it leads the world in that field. If PrEP didn't work it wouldn't have been approved. end of discussion. Usually other countries quickly follow in approving other drug treatment plans the US prescribes, especially when using already approved medications. Truvada as PrEP seems to be an anomaly in this case, which is why I see cost as the only logical barrier to other countries usage.

I had mono at 18 when I was a freshman in college. It is indeed fairly contagious, but like you said, some people get very sick, others have nothing or very mild symptoms. I was sleepy, and felt a bit under the weather, but nothing drastic. I know others that got very sick for weeks. From wikipedia, this kind of explains it. Just because it can be spread by close contact I wouldnt lump it into the STD catagory. it can also be spread by drinking from the same cup, therefore, while sexual transmission can be a factor, its not the primary transmission vector. Also things like kissing, are not considered "sexual" contact, but simply intimate contact.

What's Up With The Price Of Cialis?
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
Countries with universal care negotiote the price of drugs. Drug companies also know that while some treatments may work, the only place really in the world they can get away with charging what they do is in the US. -
Well the somewhat ironic thing is that Chemo is so toxic that it probably suppressed much of the stuff that goes on with immune reconstruction syndrome. Glad to hear that you are taking your health seriously though. Full recovery will be slow, but hopefully you can bounce back fully with the right care.

What's Up With The Price Of Cialis?
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
kind of on this topic, my friends and I have both noticed some wierd things going on with drug pricing as of late. Some are halfed in cost while others double, etc. I stand by my previous statement and think that insurers and drug companies are starting to change pricing as they get used to the ACA. -
exactly. And assuming the story is true, who exactly is shocked by this!?!? Almost nothing in life is 100%, and PrEP surely isnt. However, neither are most vaccines, other medical treatments, etc. Hell the effective rate of the HEP A/B vaccine is something like 97-98% yet we dont even think about that anymore. I know PrEP isnt 100% but taken correctly its still a lot more effective than the highest estimate effective rate of condoms at 93%. Even if the story is fake, there will be more cases of people converting while on PrEP. Many will be from people who are not taking it correctly, but some will be from strains that sneak bye. It sucks but thats life, and it doesnt change the fact that PrEP is still hugely effective.

Good to hear! as for the treatment, keep up with it for now. I know more than a few people who have fought cancer before and chemo wrecks your body. I can only imagine what its like while going through immune system reconstruction at the same time. It may take years for you to feel normal again after chemo, but stick with it. Things will improve, and glad to hear the treatment went well!

What's Up With The Price Of Cialis?
wood replied to rawTOP's topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
My personal guess is that the prices were raised to increase profits in a time when more people are starting to have prescription coverage that will usually cover at least part of the cost of the drug. -
Your question is pretty hard to answer, its like saying "is it safe to be wasted going 100 mph in and out of traffic, and also be on oxycontin?" Injecting, mainlining (aka slamming) any kind of street drug is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. its like taking bareback sex and making it 100x more risky. I know a guy who used to slam, and ended up using a dirty needle one time, not used, just not clean, and he ended up with a blood infection that concentrated in his heart, which has lead to severe complications. Right now hes at 50% heart capacity and is hopefully looking at a transplant in the next 5 years. He was incredibly lucky not to get HIV and HCV from it. To answer your question directly if you meth is pure there usually inst direct complications with viagra. However street drugs are never pure, and there very well could be interactions that could be fatal, or at the very least cause awful side effects. My personal recommendation? Stop meth now. Its just about the worst thing you can do to yourself. If you cant or wont stop, okay, but snort it, eat it, or plug it instead. Just don't inject.

cool! take some pics of it and show us what it looks like.

Anyone Get The 'fuck Flu'? What Were The Symptoms?
wood replied to a topic in HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Issues
Its important to remember that only about 30% of people actually get a "fuck flu" that would be on par with having the actual flu. Also just like diagnosing ANYTHING medical over the internet, you are likely not going to be very accurate. Many people who have acute HIV infection have extremely light to no symptoms of the infection, and because the symptoms are so similar to regular common illnesses or even allergies, its impossible to tell the difference without the proper tests. Could your current cold be an HIV infection? sure. But so could a month ago when you felt great. My friend who became HIV+ about two years ago had no symptoms whatsoever, but another fuck buddy who converted years ago was sick as hell for two weeks, another guy I know just felt mildy "off" It all depends on your body, strain, reaction, etc. -
You can find the generic equivalent called tenvir-em mfd by Cipla in India. Its the only licensed generic of Truvada. With that said, its a bad idea to do so, as PrEP does require regular blood and function tests.

So Whats Your Day Job, When You Are Not Being A Raw Slut?
wood replied to wood's topic in General Discussion
HAHAHA NICE! I met a guy at IML who I flipped with raw, who was an epidemiologist for the CDC. It gives me a huge smile to know that guys who study diseases and their vectors are out there taking loads. -
Me Undetectable And My Boyfriend Is Negative
wood replied to olly's topic in HIV Risk & Risk Reduction
You can point him in the right direction in terms of studies about transmission rates and being undetectable, (there is almost no one who is undetectable transmitting HIV, even without condoms) It sounds like you are in the UK, and if so you can see if there is a trial program to get him on PrEP. Other than that, Id say it would have to be an open relationship if you two want to stay together. I cant see it working any other way. -
I've had the exact same experience. If find younger doctors are much more judgemental, and quick to critique, than the older more seasoned docs.

Obviously being on here I am not a huge fan of condoms, but eliminating them entirely as a method of controlling disease vectors is just not a great idea. For people like sex workers condoms are still IMO a good option. Hell even for people that don't mind them they are a good option. There is still many more pathogens out there besides HIV, and condoms in general provide a decent level of protection for those things.
